Hey fellow packrafter.

R-Deck would be with the splash skirt?

If you're KL based I can only suggest the lakes around KL or some rivers in KKB. (Alor Lempah is the tail end of the KKB river rafting so its mostly a chill paddle down river or upriver) I took my Rogue to Semenyih but I was told illegal to paddle out in the dam so was only out there for a while but it was an awesome paddle in a giant body of fresh water.
Other than that Putrajaya lake where they offer canoes, you can inflate and paddle there.
I think there are a few more spots for wake boarding in KL Selangor area but I haven't tried.
There are a few lakes in Setia Alam / Shah Alam that part of a hiking trail.
Some of the packrafters that are more advance I know here have even tried up north in Sungkai

I think one issue is where doing this is permissible in KL side.

I had no problems in the sea here or Sabah but that's when you're on longer vacation. Sungai Tembeling in Taman Negara would be another great spot but 3.5 hours away.

thanks for replying.

I was at Putrajaya last Sat for their paddle festival. I enquired with the organisers and understood that for now they do not allow personal crafts, only when you rent from the operators.

I would not want to paddle near dam as it's extremely dangerous if we not aware when the flush gate is going to open, and I have seen damn releasing flood water and the impact can be several km away.

I have done some search sad to say there is really very little space for water recreational activities or sports around KL.

Oh that sucks. I always thought we can raft there.

Then it will have to be KKB, Serendah waterways then. I did raft at the Sungai Selangor river at Alor Lempah.

Hulu langat river maybe.

Has anyone experience with the new hiking permits system being implemented by Forestry Selangor?

The registration seems rather detailed but i suppose that's necessary if they're going to deploy resources for a search and rescue for someone in a remote area.
Most of us however are frequent hikers are not in search of the highest peaks and densest jungle - just regulars on our local trails. Retired folks might do the same trail a few times a week, even daily, so having to apply for a single permit each time is very impractical but also a big burden financially. An annual fee for reasonable fee might be acceptable but I'd doubt anyone is taking up the single permit unless its a very difficult to access and controlled location.

Where will the permit revenue money go - facilities, manpower, signage?
We see so many trails being reduced and encroached upon by new developments - sadly thats not going to end - so we don't want permit revenue to be funding that.
