That looks really good. So relax and can enjoy very good scenery. Sometimes I just wish malaysia has that kind of trail. Where you can just walk and enjoy the view.

You have calculated roughly the cost and time for th trip?

Keep me posted although my plan to hike few mountains around Malaysia is on.

I just got myself a

1) One Polar Triclimate Jacket (using Toray Delfy Fabric)
2) A featherlight windproof/rainproof jacket
3) Salomon Sensa Mantra for trail running and hiking (tested out on some trail but need more testing on slippery rock for the grip)
4) 140 lumen waterproof headlight
5) Another Streamlight LED torchlight for spare
6) Walking Stick
etc etc

I guess there goes my list of gear for my KK hike...will i over prepare for the trip?

Maybe you could grab some heat pads to ensure you feel warm and comfortable when you are getting a rest in Laban Rata.

Just go to Winter Time or Travel For All and get a packet of heat pad. Gonna cost you less than RM10 for a packet of 3 to 5.

Actually I would like to find a good headlight. Not really waterproof. Looking around its hard to find one with at least 200 lumen with around 10hours battery life. You have any suggestion?

I'm interested in zebralight h600 but don't think it's available here in Malaysia.

I do not think anyone carrying Zebralight. I myself never came across this brand. As for me I just use the ordinary headlamp which could last me for my expedition. Why you need to grab one with long battery life when you will be using them for about 3-6 hours during the night?

I am currently using petzl NAO

It has 357 lumens and full blast would last 1 hour 30 minutes

It claims that reactive mode would last up to 20 hours but I've managed to clock till 10-13 I guess, can't really remember, I use it for trail running mainly, the reactive mode is really awesome one of a kind headlight!

First time camping? Gunung Nuang first campsite is an ideal place for first time. Trek in 2 hours and Kem Lolo got water source for your cooking. Could be pack during Saturday. Not camp at the peak ya.

You could try camp at Sungai Chiling but there is a cost where you need to pay for entrance fee. Parking are provided nearby too. You could venture to Sungai Chiling waterfall but do careful with river crossing number 5 or 6. Could be deep and fast if rain.

Gunung Irau basecamp is another good place for beginners. The camp site is actually the car park for the hikers who wishes to hike Gunung Irau. Pretty flat terrain but people camp just because for the weather.

Too many place to think off biggrin.gif

It is safe to camp at all three area - Lolo, Pacat and the peak.

But some are not aware that Pacat do have a water source and it is located quite a distance from the Pacat camp site.

Most will opt to camp at Lolo due to water resources, but if you want to witness the sunrise - Pacat or the summit will be an ideal location.

Peak could be windy and can house around 4 tents comfortably. Do pitch near to the route via Janda Baik as I advice not to camp near the metal beirut.

Most people will day pack to Nuang summit as early as 6 AM. Estimation time to reach peak around noon or later.

Shall you are to camp at the peak taking consideration of 6-8 hours to hike (depends on individual stamina) and avoiding night fall (7 PM) to do the set up, start around 11 AM or noon will be ideal.

If you are unsure where is the water point in Pacat, stop at Lolo to grab the water source for cooking and cleaning before heading up to summit.

But hikers do not really disturb even if you pitch your tent there. Just imagine those who slept at Lolo on Saturday night, hike up on Sunday morning just to see the sunrise smile.gif

I just wonder what you have in your backpack? A camper usually carry around 8-20kg depends on the hike.

If you ask me, whether are there campers from Lolo to witness the sunrise? Maybe yes and that could affect your good night sleep. Unless you trek down a little via Janda Baik route and use a hammock to sleep.

10-12kg load were good enough to camp just a night there. Checklist like sleeping gear, cooking gear, sufficient water, a pair of clean clothing to sleep and to trek back the next day. Normally I will carry heavy and enjoy the trek with good meal for my dinner and breakfast.
