10-12kg load were good enough to camp just a night there. Checklist like sleeping gear, cooking gear, sufficient water, a pair of clean clothing to sleep and to trek back the next day. Normally I will carry heavy and enjoy the trek with good meal for my dinner and breakfast.

How far will be the hike? 4 - 6 men tent quite heavy. You could carry any weight or prefer ultra light (means more $$$ by the difference of 600g - 1kg)?

2D 1N I will suggest a 40l-50l bagpack.

40l should be good enough for both mountains. I could do like on both by using hammock. Lolo and Pacat no doubt lots of tree.

In Rajah, best place to hammock will be at Kem Hijau.

It really depends where I hike and camp. Some area can use hammock, some can pitch tent, some cannot do both - so you have to opt for flysheet and groundsheet.

Even if you do hammock you still need flysheet to ensure you wouldn't caught by the rain.

Maybe you are referring to mosquito netting. LOL. Some do provide the flysheet together but still you need to tie them about 45 degree to cover both sides.

High mountain area? I felt the tent play a minor part. As long the tent was set up properly with an additional fly over the top, it reduces rain water (if raining) from penetrating into the tent when you were sleeping or block strong gust that could make you chill all night.

Personally opinion I rather spent more on my sleeping gear - an air mattress, a +10 sleeping bag (most people will get the +12 as it is more common), some good sleeping attire for the night, and etc. Some get the emergency blanket (the one with aluminum foil or a common yoga mat to be place underneath where you are sleeping.

Based on your description looks like you have not camp in 2,000 m mountains and above? If you want to try camping at highland to adapt to the environment, you could try in Genting Highland (very uncommon for those who do not know the place well - not referring to Gunung Bunga Buah), and Cameron Highland (basecamp of Gunung Irau, not the peak).

Just let me know where you want to camp and I could provide you the possible place to camp. If you want it to be chill and easy, you could try Gunung Suku at Cameron Highland. There are place to park at least 3-5 cars by the roadside (you pray your car never get smash like what happened in Gunung Irau earlier this month). Do expect it to be cold as wind will be hitting your camp all night long. When wake up in the morning you could see Gunung Chabang and the Titiwangsa range smile.gif

Trans Nuang? LOL.

My first question to you - did you prepare for the transportation?

Via janda baik is much faster around 3-4 hours should be able reach peak and via Pangsoon averagely 4-6 hours.

Via Janda Baik will pass through a farm. The boss usually not around. Most of the people you see will be Indonesia worker. From passion fruits to durians to chillis and all sort of vegetables, you pass through a small river (most people shower there after the hike) then trek in (Pangsoon kind of route - small granites, rocks) before entering the forest.

The forest is quite muddy, possible lots of leech and might required bamboo chopping if the route is no longer visible. 1- 1.5 hours from the first river you will see a waterfall that marks the half way mark called Lata Chemperoh. This is where most tend to get lost if they are poor with marking.

The route to Gunung Nuang via Janda Baik is 12 oclock direction from where you see the stream, whereby the waterfall being your 3 oclock direction. From there should take you another 1.5 hours with one part required upper strength to pull yourself up. Quite easy peasy.

Oh ya, forgot to tell you that the road to entry point in Janda Baik is quite rocky. Better drive a higher elevated car. Wira can kiss good bye to your bottom section smile.gif Hope that helps.

Saw your graph for your Bukit Puteh trail run. Impressive. Could you define Saga peak? What did you saw there? Do you know that there is a "beirut" in Saga?

well i mean that we will go there and back on the same route.. so transportation might be less of a problem..
I have did peak via Pangsoon in a leisurely pace for 5 hours.. but it can make things a lot slower when it's rainy season, I remember there's a portion which is rather muddy..

The way via Janda Baik, i might want to do one time peak via Janda Baik to have a feel how it looks like.. going down could be faster.. I think I went down to Pangsoon from peak around 3 hours..

hmm it's not really a run lol.. just a normal walk..
Saga peak is the name the local gives to this peak which enable you to access this hill from Ampang, it's actually Ahpek hill hike (various confusing names for this hill). Lots of exercise equipment that the local build on it..
In Saga peak, there's a lot of tents and shelter (overhead canvas? or what you call it). From there you can see a little of Ampang and KLCC from one of the window near the slope.

Actually I thought that our locals behind too "kind" sometimes and overdeveloped these trails.. they are constantly building stuff, clearing more trails.. causing more erosion too.. I am not sure if that's something that everyone wants..

Recently I went to the hill in Puchong (they call it wawasan?).. It is suppose to be a research forest reserve by UPM, I felt bad trespassing into it.. Worse when the local try to "build" stuff again..
