Mass Effect 2 is coming to the PS3; Mass Effect 1 is not. As the sequel can account for consequences of choices you made in the original, some were wondering how this will be addressed on the PS3.

The answer, according to a BioWare producer in the print edition of the German magazine Play3, is an interactive comic by Dark Horse that will establish the continuity of the first game and allow readers to make some choices to affect its outcome.

That's not all; in announcing Mass Effect 2 for the PS3 at GamesCom, Electronic Arts said it would feature "hours of bonus content." So in addition to the interactive comic, PS3 players will get all three previously released DLC extensions, plus the one-use code that gives access to the Cerberus Network.

This info comes over a German-language Mass Effect 2 forum, but it's from a community moderator and it's attributed to BioWare's Casey Hudson. Nonetheless, we've sent off an email to an EA publicist just in case things are different for users in other regions.

Update: An Electronic Arts representative contacted Kotaku to say that the interactive comic news is accurate, but there is no PS3-specific new mission. "Something got lost in the translation." We've been referred to this BioWare forum post clarifying the report. It also says that the interactive comic's "initial release will be exclusive to PS3 owners who would be otherwise unable to realize the full effect of choice in the Mass Effect universe, and will be included on the Cerberus Network."

Hi guys, I am now considering getting both ME 1 and ME 2 together thru Steam, but I didn't see any DLC in Steam (search result with keyword: Mass Effect), so If I purchase from Steam, how can I get the DLC? 

You gotta get them from EA.

ie. using the Cerberus Network in Mass Effect 2. You'll have to buy Bioware Points and then exchange them for DLCs.

For ME1, I am not sure as I didn't get any DLC.

For ME1, once you purchase from Steam, you can get the free dlc "Bring Down the Sky" for free via a download link in the official ME1 site. Don't bother with the other ME1 DLC.

1st DLC for ME1 is free.
2nd DLC for ME1 can be bought from EA online store.
i wonder when they will roll out ME2 ultimate edition with all DLCs?

The BioWare project teased earlier today by Spike TV's Video Game Awards is not an early look at Mass Effect 3, according to a development source, but the multiplayer-focused Mass Effect spin-off currently in the works at BioWare Montreal.

That Mass Effect game is not a massively multiplayer online version of BioWare's sci-fi RPG series, but a game that's designed to appeal more to the Call of Duty market, according to that source. We're told to expect player progression in the vein of Activision's wildly popular online shooter along with some sort of single-player component that does not feature Mass Effect's Commander Shepard in a leading role.

None of that should really be too surprising, given hints BioWare and EA have dropped in the past.

BioWare Montreal, which has aided in Mass Effect 2 development, was seeking multiplayer programmers earlier this year to "take existing single player user experiences and make them multiplayer safe." BioWare co-founder Greg Zeschuk has also said that there will be more games set in the Mass Effect universe outside of the series' main trilogy.

EA's John Schappert has promised "something far-reaching coming from Mass Effect" in the new year, something a December-timed reveal could drum up new enthusiasm for. Schappert could have simply been referring to the PlayStation 3 version of Mass Effect 2, however, which is due in January 2011.

Finally, former Raven Software (Quake 4, Wolfenstein) lead designer Manveer Heir moved to BioWare Montreal this summer to work on Mass Effect, giving the developer some well-known multiplayer shooter talent.
