Not suit? Then how about their partnership in Spain for say, 2-3 years? And it's successful too..

both of their gameplay reflects a lone striker.....yeah true, they partnered for quite sometimes d but they are more effective when playing up alone...

i hate the lone striker role, there is nobody to play off, and is very difficult to follow up with shots because the midfielders wont be near enough to.
prefer two strikers up top - i think its more effective.

Has anyone seen this article yet? If not here you go.

http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/sport/foo...icle5703041.ece

I'm only listing players I've seen because I don't think youtube vids are a realiable source. Being a fan only in 1988, I didn't have the privilege of watching King Kenny play.

1) John Barnes - One of the reasons I started supporting the club. They talk about Beckham's right foot but if the old 1st Division were aired as widely and often as the EPL these days, people would be talking about Barnes' left foot!

2) Ian Rush - nuff said already. Best finisher we ever had bar none. Well my next pick comes close.

3) Robbie Fowler - What a sight it was to see both him and Rushie play. Could score with his back to goal and like Carra is red through and through. Anyone remember the four and even five finger salutes? He wasn't even playing for us at the time!

4) Jamie Carragher - consumate professional. What he lacks in talent he makes up for in heart, and you can't put a price on that. Avoids the limelight and leads an honest, simple life.

5) Steven Gerrard - Martin Tyler summed it up best when he said, "Steven Gerrard, one man task force".

Other worthy mentions...

1) Peter Beardsley
2) Sami Hyypia
3) Rob Jones - one wonders what might have been if injury had not cut his career short.
4) Ray Houghton
5) Alan Hansen

Their partnership has not exactly setting the world alight. Successful? Maybe it's cos the team is successful that u said their partnership's a success. All in I would say their partnership as Spain twin strikers is not exactly lethal, bearing in mind their talent as individual.

Every formation have their own merit. In 4-5-1, maybe the there's more midfielder to support him instead of no partner to help him. tongue.gif

Somewhat agree with Vreis that the Torres and Villa partnership hasnt exactly set the world alight. Its understandable since they never played together in the same club and it will take some time for them to really click. They are exceptional talents but the combinations isnt anywhere as lethal as say Bebeto and Romario combo. But they are both prolific natural finishers and as individuals, having them both on the field is a nightmare to any defenses.

Are you guys optimistic about the game against Man City? I feel bad because Alonso is out through suspension(5yellow cards) and Lucas is playing? doh.gif

as long as robinho's not on fire i think man city wouldn't be lethal.

most of man city's matches this season have been revolving around the brazilian, if he doesn't play well the team usually pose no threat.

plus, man city are playing away, i expect mark hughes to concentrate more on not conceding rather than attacking full force, so even if robinho starts he's most probably going to be substituted for a defensive player. the only player i think can prevent a liverpool win is shay given. that man's a class act. always been a great admirer of his abilities, and hopefully he won't be standing in the way this weekend. wink.gif
