It has been quite a while since I last went cycling. Temping to get a folding bike. Budget about RM2k. I can allocate more funds but just not sure whether should I spend that much now.

Hope someone can help me with my noobish questions:-

1) Is Dahon Speed P8 within that budget?

2) I read there are 2011 and earlier, are there 2012 models? How do I tell the difference?

3) Is the P8 upgradable?

4) Are there maintenance parts? Will the original parts obsolete? Can alternatives brands can be fixed on it? Will the bike rust?

5) Besides P8, what are the alternatives within the price (I don't mind topup a little if the difference are better or checkout other brands)?

6) Where can I find the most folding / Dahon bikes to shop around?

7) I know there are a lot of events run, but are there often events cycling where folding bike are allowed?

dahon global already updated their bikes for 2013
the new dash p18 with disc brake is on the site already....

http://dahonbikes.com/mainnav/folding-bike...ding-bikes.html

u need to check with Lerun, which model they are bringing in,
maybe with ur budget u have more options.

the colour scheme for new 2013 bikes are really yucky..... doh.gif

but JDM dahon bikes are different in colour.

2013 speed P8 have silver seat post n stem, but for JDM it is still all back.... cun.... biggrin.gif

Went Rodalink. There are qutie a number of Dahon, Tern. They didn't have Speed P8 at the shop. Have to wait few days before they can transfer the stock. I only took down the below items that I was interested

Speed P8 - RM1994
MU P8 - RM 2279

Jetstream P8 - RM3226
*Above my budget but this is like love at the first sight in the shop. Tempting.

I also went to Pedalspot. Where they have Birdy (high end) and Java (lower end). They said they brough in Java to compete against Dahon.
Based on spec it is better (faster speed) but yet cheaper

RM1690
*16 speed. Disc brake (front + brake).

Java price is tempting. Anybody got any comments about it?

I'm also looking at the Speed P8.
2011 spec: http://www.dahon.com/bikes/2011/speed-p8
2013 spec: http://www.cso.co.jp/bikeshop/dahon/fdb/13speedp8.html

Didn't really go deep into every detail but quickly noticed that 2013 model has thinner tyres and no seatpost pump. sad.gif

Some other Dahons: http://hashirin.com/archives/1481912.html

Went to Folding Bike. According to the guy he said Dahon and Tern is father and son business. Lately Dahon lost patent court case with Tern, and therefore Dahon will re-brand. There will be problems with parts in the near future till things are sorted out.

Then he was promoting their in house Ori brand bikes.

M8 - 3088 (8 speed)
Mi8 - 3788 (8 speed - hub gears)
M9 - 3688 (9 speed)
M10 - 3888 (10 speed)

16"
full frame

Free 1 year 12 times service (10x normal, 2x major). Major means taking out all the parts and check. Inclusive washing.

Kind of tempting for the service they offer. The guy was also very patience with me explaining almost 2 hours+

Any of you guys got comments on Ori?

they have a team ori... that's all i know.... hehe biggrin.gif

other than that Ori is kinda new, so U can't find prices overseas n compare the price selling here....
Ori is sold in taiwan tho, and japan is abit slow to catch-up....

Case of tern n dahon is not that accurate about parts.

if u like ori, then go ahead n get it. biggrin.gif

I like the support for the shop and it is near my place (Kepong). Kind of makes it sound noob friendly.

I've already been to 3 shops. Tomorrow I'll check out another in BU.

Currently I'm having Jetstream P8 and Ori M10 in mind. Price is almost reaching Birdie Alivio already... teruk-nya. Poison.

Went and did my first spin today at DPC. Been quite awhile since I last cycle so goyang goyang.

Bike wise was nice but some times when changing gear, it will have the klak klak sound like cannot enter into that gear. The seller did tell me it is normal when it is brand new. After few rides and 1 month later, I have to bring back for service and tuning.
