Just when we thought HP had moved on, what with the Mini 1000 getting all the love these days, HP has returned to its original Mini-Note 2100 series of netbooks with the 2140. Supposedly aimed at businesses, the new netbook loses that sluggish VIA C7-M of its predecessors and replaces it with -- you guessed it -- a 1.6GHz Atom processor. There's also a 80GB or 160GB hard drive onboard and a 10-inch screen available in 1366 x 768 and 1024 x 567 resolutions, plus that lovable ExpressCard / 54 slot hasn't gone anywhere, but the machine remains otherwise mostly unchanged. Prices start at $499 for the base model, and OS choices include XP Home / Pro, SuSe Linux, FreeDOS and Windows Vista Home Basic / Premium. The laptop is certainly a nice step up over the Mini 1000, but we sure could use a bit more power under the hood. You know, for business.

Isn't this what everyone with a Mini 2133 wanted? The same hi-res screen and sleek aluminum casing with a speedy Atom processor. I can't wait to load this thing up with Windows 7

I sincerely think is a waste of your money !!! You can easily get a compaq laptop with intel core duo at RM1900 then spending RM1400 on small screen and slow proccesing

Its all about the portability, my friend. How about those guys who bought the ASUS N10J-A1 netbook for RM2700 for the 9600GT card in it? That's even more insane. This is just bordering it.

yeah, and i find that i oftenly wanna leave my laptop at home when i travel just because that brick is a pain to carry. rclxub.gif

when you travel a lot, a 2kg brick laptop weights more like 10kg. and a 1kg lappy weights like 100g.
not everyone needs a large screen a high performance GC. because not everyone game on their lappy.

the Asus N10J is my first choice if it weren't for the weight. it's a wee bit more than 1.5kg and goes over 1.6kg with the adapter and mouse and yada yada.
this new Mini 2140 is perfect (or near perfect) for me. need to know if there's 6 cell available for it. hopefully won't be as heavy as the N10J.

IMO, this is for those who want serious portability, like how you'd head down to starbucks while stuffing this into your handbag.

It's no point spending extra just to get a large bulky CQ40 or something, when all you want is just to surf the net outdoors...

Hmm... I spend 5k to buy a Fujitsu UMPC running on atom. Am I already insane? hahaha

Anyway, I like the brushed aluminium look of this netbook. Looks classy.

you use BT a lot? i don't. heck i've never used BT for anything. it only sucks battery in my laptop. laugh.gif
i've once tried BT wireless mouse. my butt-o-meter says it sucks battery faster. so switched to normal RF wireless mouse and lose one usb port. never used the BT for anything ever again. biggrin.gif

OMG, i'm so glad i've held off from purchasing the mininote 1000. this baby is freaking sweet & everything i wish for in a netbook; express card, 6 cell, almost full keyboard, sexy design.

i want this NOW, but supposedly it'll be available in march? so long *sigh. i guess i'll have to stick with my ideapad s10 for now (which has almost everything i want except the keyboard is cramped & looks like a toy... and unfortunately, i just bought a 9cell batt for this lappie off ebay just a few days ago). probably will be on sale coming march... tsk tsk

Get a CQ20, good price to weight and performance ratio. 1.68kg with DVD writer and Centrino2 processor. RM2199 only. 12.1"

Added on January 7, 2009, 12:02 pma side note...if our HP lappy got problem, the shop in front on LY will help us to send to HP service centre in Damansara? can someone confirm it? i check with them 2 weeks back and they said yes, but why HP never highlight this?

Do they need to highlight it? It's all standard procedure what. Btw, their service centre is in Bangsar, the HP Tower.

wat u mean by std procedure?? Coz whenever u call them, they will ask u to go to their service centre in Damansara and mind u, only open from Mon to Friday which mean hv to take leave just to go there, unlike ASUS or BenQ which hv a collect/service centre in Low Yat.

i get that, though the difference is that hp mininote is always my first choice, but i had to forego it because of the specs; mininote 2133 with it's via processor & mininote 1000 with the space-waster hp slot. finally, the hp people got it right with 2140(hopefully).

i'm easily tempted but i don't buy hastily smile.gif.

and oh, people need to grasp the clear definition of a netbook, instead of always saying a model of some subnotebook or a full-blown lappie is of better value. imo if the netbook is your main laptop & all you do is on the net, word processing, youtube etc. & you want something light, a netbook is your best option. however if you do all that plus some gaming or more, a higher spec laptop (also heavier) is with better value.

for myself, the netbook is a secondary laptop, something i want to carry everywhere when no heavy processing work is involved. for that i have my main notebook, a macbook pro.

so buyers should really evaluate their needs & decide which is best. don't knock on the netbooks, especially something as sexy as the mininote 2140 biggrin.gif

with the current technology? i don't think a better replacement would come that fast.
there's a benchmark that i've read somewhere putting the new dual core atom (4 virtual cores with HT) against this N270 single core atom (2 virtual core with HT). not much performance increase with 25% less battery time. even intel admitted for people to expect that it sucks 25% more battery. and the new dual core atom losses in office benchmark.

the newer N530 uses max 2W of power. N270 uses max 2.5W. the newer Poulsbo US15W chipset (that does HD decoding on chip) doesn't support 2GB ram and is limited to PATA interface.

so something better than a magnesium alloy cased 2140 with 16:9 wider screen? could be. definitely. but not with the upcoming models that i've read about.

At 500$ for the starting point, I am quite afraid that the high end model with the high res screen will be 600-700$ which may reach up to RM2000 or more.

high resolution on an 8" screen. sweat.gif
10" is the bare minimum that my eyes could accept. and since i really need to type on the netbook, the keyboard and key location has utmost importance.

reliability? against the sony? i wouldn't really put 'HP' and 'reliability' together in the same word. 'reliability' of the new HP business laptop is somewhat degrading.

experienced it first hand with 3 of my HP 'business' laptop. maybe it's just me, but guess my friends also got unlucky too. blush.gif

the sony p looks good, but they don't have an express card slot, right? i use it a lot for 3g modem connection & firewire, and has the option of any connection offered by the express card slot for future needs. plus 8" is just way too small; it wouldn't be far off from surfing on my iphone. so 1 point for the mininote.

i have a concise & clear tier of my mobile computing needs, so their usability & functions won't overlap each other:
1. super mobile & quick surfing - iphone
2. for leisure days when i need the internet & basic computing stuff - a netbook
(for now the s10, hopefully will be mininote 2140 in the future smile.gif)
3. heavy processing work & top performance - macbook pro

in conclusion, i'm sticking with my mininote-2140-salivating. no go for the sony.

ETA: from pics of the mininote, i can only see one audio jack. so i suppose line in & out will be shared. and the silver body & keyboard with black display is very similar to apple's new aluminium body macs. i like biggrin.gif. seriously can i have one NOW?

Price start at USD499 and with the lowest configuration and OS (Free DOS) which i doubt it will be available in M'sia, can foresee the XP model will be at 2k or more.

with the current technology? i don't think a better replacement would come that fast.
there's a benchmark that i've read somewhere putting the new dual core atom (4 virtual cores with HT) against this N270 single core atom (2 virtual core with HT). not much performance increase with 25% less battery time. even intel admitted for people to expect that it sucks 25% more battery. and the new dual core atom losses in office benchmark.

the newer N530 uses max 2W of power.

*
maybe soon they'll come up a touch screen netbook>? or 2140 with their touchsmart? cool

HP 2150 also coming...
http://jkkmobile.blogspot.com/2009/01/hp-m...igger-ones.html

" HP will launch a new 11.6-inch notebook in the second quarter and a 13.3-inch low-cost model in June. Both will be part of the Mini-note family and will possibly use Intel's Atom Zxx series processors (Menlow)."

im currently thinking of this netbook for now...seems nice to have a cheap, smaller, secondary machine to bring to campus. bringing a notebook forces me to bring less books...which may lead to tough times tongue.gif

im just thinking if the 2140 would be fast enuf to run apps like google sketchup 7 n autocad 2008? or any sub-2k netbook perhaps?

RM 2k for 2140 is asking a lot. My bar for a subnotebook is drawn at the RM 2k line. So I'm probaby going for the mini 1000 instead. It's lighter as well as having a bigger screen. The 2140 has 1024 X 576 instead of 1024 X 600, which translate into having 1 - 2 lines of text less.

the $499 comes with 3 cells. $529 for the 6 cells. RM1999 when it comes here?

I have destop at both office and at home.. netbook is just nice for on the move checking mails, editing word, powerpoint and blogging.. it's handsome and not so heavy.

Netbooks in my opinion, in general they are all the same in terms of processing power (on atom processor).. but you can look for things that can make it snappier.. such as faster HDD, bigger RAM, leaner OS, bigger battery capacity..

The HP Mini 2140 does offer all the above which I've mentioned with 7200RPM HDD, Max 2GB RAM, runs on Win XP, 3 Cell battery (3 hrs 25 mins) and 6 Cell battery (7 hrs 14mins). However it is not the lightest at 1.19 Kg, but this is due to it's chassis which is made from magnesium aluminum and aluminum hinges which in simulated test shows it will lasts for 6 years of open and closing the lid ten times a day. I think it is a fair trade off for a more robust chassis.

Besides that HP has the most comfortable keyboard with 92% from full sized and that magnesium aluminum chassis makes it look neat (just like a macbook).

Checked today on the web.. still not arrived in Malaysia T-T

Thanks for the info.. and here's a little bit more information on HP Mini 2140 offering in Singapore. http://asia.cnet.com/crave/2009/02/06/hp-m...-retail-stores/

Key word in the article is "with the rest of Asia getting theirs soon as well." (^-^)

I'm not sure whether you're referring to Java programming or the Java runtime plugins for browsers as I'm confused with "other programming". Anyways.. I assume you meant plugins, then yes it will run, as well as flash, active x and others as this netbooks runs on Windows XP.

But for programming, I don't think suitable to use this netbook as it is meant for light work and browsing. You don't want to encounter a forced application halt message when you've already typed hundreds of programming script lines don't cha?

1000 - looks good, feals slightly cheap (plastic doh.gif), but works really well. Stupid design decisions (e.g. wasted USB port, proprietary video-out). Overall, OK for day-to-day surfing, still best looking among sub-RM2k netbooks & notebooks of any type IMHO.

2140 - IMHO, 2nd runner up after 1000 in terms of looks, if body is identical to 2133 then it will feel really solid, specs are a definite upgrade over the 1000 and I'm not referring to easily replaceable parts like HDD and RAM. It's got the "proper" vga out (HDMI or DVI would be better but... okla), "full" 3 USB ports, and regular backside battery instead of bottom battery.

Overall, if the price difference is only RM200 plus minus, I'd definitely go for 2140. Any more than that and I'll stick to 1000.

(I'm typing this on 1000 now btw)

as far as I know programming doesn't eat up much cpu cycles. You can go right ahead and do your programming on such a device. Keyboard's pretty big so it's comfortable to type.

Checked with my fellow programmer friend.. yes you can use to write programming scripts, provided they have been break-up into segments and you're not doing compilation (CPU intensive) for the scripts. But in general, if you are doing programming you should know the load required to do your work. For instance, are you running the script on client or server?

p/s: Still no news on it's availability.. very tempted to get it from SG, Jetstar ticket is only RM150 roundtrip. icon_idea.gif

I wonder if the keys are easily stained. What's the type of the surface? Scared easily stained with daki and hard to wipe them off. I hope it's not like old white keyboard.

I can't wait for the 2140. Giot myself a 100o today at Lowyat at 1570 with 2gb ram. Using it to post this now, sweet. Actually bought 2 units, another one for my sis. Bought sleeves and bluetooth mouse, and a host f other things while waiting for my 1000. Will post pictures soon.
One early comment, keyboard is awesome, not much difference from my HP COmpaq 6510B office laptop.

I wish for that too. Current netbook with 1024 resolution is deal breaker for me. I had 15inch crt with the same resolution and it was just so frustating to surf the web with the said resolution. The minimum for me is 1280x800 or 1366x768.

Unfortunately no pricing was revealed.. But i forsee, based on the HP Mini 1000 pricing between Malaysia and Singapore; it is approx RM100 cheaper.. So the current selling price for HP Mini 2140 in Singapore is SGD799 (approx RM 1933).. By having these info, i think we can estimate the price will be RM 1,833.

At least thats my assumption.

LOL..just joking...i do eat bread almost everyday for breakfast.

As for starbucks/coffeebean...I kinda addicted. Already drinking 2-3 times a week.

Hell yeah...hope it's below RM2000. But now another dilemma. Asus's new eee keyboard PC also very attracting with release date around june and price around RM2200.

Damn...like that will never end waiting.

they sure are taking their own sweet time to arrive in malaysia.

Now, competitions are already catching up. With new models from Asus and Samsung.

I might get Samsung n10 cause it almost like this 2140. Just see what's available during pc-fair.

I'm assuming you're not sure how to change the RAM..
if yes download the >>HP Mini 2140 Maintenance Manual<<

The RAM is located under the keyboard, basically you have to remove the keyboard to access.. here's how they've done it..

Step 1: Remove 3 screws located at the battery bay. The srews are indicated with a small "keyboard icon" beside it.
user posted image

Step 2: Carefully pry-out the keyboard, starting from the top. Bit by bit it will come loose..
user posted image

Step 3: After the keyboard removed, HDD and RAM is visible for servicing/replacing. After replacing, just reverse back the steps.

that's why i just don't get it. the mini 1000 has the fancy design. the 2133 has the ever boring dull brushed aluminium. and the 2140 follows the same boring dull no fancy looking brushed aluminium.

sorry to be a little ot, but is the price much different from current retail? i'm actually thinking of buying the hp touchsmart or some sort of desktop media centre if the price is good.

as for the mininote 2140, i'm still interested but what with the rumors going around of apple actually producing their own line of netbooks, i suppose i have to to keep this purchase on hold, indefinitely.

i'll buy it. if the price is right. can't carry my 17 inch lappy anymore. sore back and waist.

for a netbook i have to say it is really a great piece of engineering. i had experience with the 100 and 2133 and all i can say is i really can't wait for this to come out. it is on my wanted list.

HP has run a promotion with ambank, put there RRP as 1499. Ambank card member gets a promotion price of 1299 plus 0% EPP for 12 months.

Basic spec are Atom N270 (1.6Ghz), 1GB Ram, 160GB HDD, Web Cam, Wireless, 10.1 display, Suse Linux

I went to HP warehouse sale last weekend, only Mini 1000 on sale. Price was rm1499 which i can get elsewhere too. It sold out?

Compare this HP 2140 (XP, bluetooth + 6 cell) with Lenovo same specs, price is RM1969, an extra rm170 (but with an extra 3 cell battery). Isn't it better to go for Aspire One D150 (rm1499) or Asus 1000H(rm1599)?

there are a lot of other concerns rather than just the price

1) i saw a member mentioning the keyboard size
2) quality of the build (material)
3) quality of the support/service/warranty
4) pros and cons on the specs

etc

Yeah I'd like to see someone actually buy it too. The thing is there are a lot of older HP 2133 netbooks out there that looks exactly like the HP 2140. I'd love to get an HP 2140 for RM1299 but I doubt that Ambank is so generous...

nothingz, I'm happy if I'm proven wrong. I'm just trying to say that I don't trust Ambank that they would give such a good deal on a brand new netbook that's one of the most anticipated netbooks around today.

I'll wait till someone buys it, I just cancelled my Ambank card a few months ago biggrin.gif

wanna ask, the ram on 2140 is it soldered on like s10 or slot? the sata drive is a 5400rpm or 7200rpm?

why they design the battery to bulge towards the bottom. it's not practical. i prefer it bulge more gradually & towards the back to keep the overall thickness

well.. i dont have problem which put inside a laptop bag which fit netbook nicely. normally i will bring the adaptor. now.. i just attach the original 3 cell battery and store the 6 cell in another side. fit nicely and can use for 5 hours.

just activate hibernate. so if u running on low batt. u still can resume ya work after u replace ya battery.

u can get those bag at ALL IT hypermarket. from entrance go in.. on ya left u can see a lot of bag there. just search around. they having promotion selling around RM29.90. which is a good buy.

i like the 2140 bcos it has the coated keyboard it wont wear off that fast as normal keyboard with unremovable "oily stain". second it has a 2.5inch hdd which you can upgrade to 320GB? 500GB? unlike the limited 1.8" mini1000.
cant wait for the 2140. but i still hope they have the 1366x768 resolution instead of 1024 x 576.

no one has confirmed whether the offer by ambank is 3-cell or 6-cell. This is very important cause I don't want 3-cell unit. Will only apply for ambank card to get if it's 6-cell with the price 1299.

Hi guys. Just to provide some insight into this HP Mini 2140. I spoke to this lady from HP Malaysia. There are three models available under their Ambank Credit Card Programme.

HP Mini 2140 RM 1299
Atom N270 1.6Ghz
1GB Ram
160GB HDD
Web Cam
Wireless
NO Bluetooth
Linux

HP Mini 2140 RM 1599
Atom N270 1.6Ghz
1GB Ram
160GB HDD
Web Cam
Wireless
Bluetooth
Windows XP Home

HP Mini 2140 RM 1999
Atom N270 1.6Ghz
2GB Ram
160GB HDD
Web Cam
Wireless
Bluetooth
Windows Vista Business

I've been told (I think) that upon signing up for Ambank Credit Card, you can then apply to get the HP Mini 2140 at the above prices. Delivery will take at least 7 working days up to a maximum of 14 working days.

My 2 sen > If it does take lets say 3 working days for credit card application to complete, then a further 7-14 working days for delivery of the HP Mini 2140, I could reasonably expect to be waiting up to 17 working days (assuming no problem with credit card application lah) for my lappie. I can also probably safely guess that the Mini 2140 would be in shops approximately by then (April) as well. Anyways, thats just my thoughts. Hope some of the info provided helps. Happy Mini 2140 hunting!

Disclaimer > Dont hold me to any of the specification / info above. I'm putting it up as accurately as i can remember laugh.gif

i think the cheaper by 300 is refering to the 1299 package which is not available to outsiders except Ambank Credit Card holders, just like the Dell Mini 9 with built in HSPA modem which is just available for those who subscribes the Maxis Broadband promotion.

i think that's the only difference. On top of that the Ambank Credit Card holders are entitled to a 12 months 0% interest payment scheme.

nowadays banks are hunger for money, as long as your credit rating is ok, i think they will just approve your application biggrin.gif
somemore, some people prefers to pay instalment to reduce the pain of one lump sum payment smile.gif

i think the ram can be upgraded on our own, provided your upgrade does not affect other hardwares in the netbook
i think a forummer asked about whether this netbook will be available in PC fair, the answer is NO
RM1499 comes with ori XP Home & Bluetooth, however the 1299 package comes with Suse Linux & NO BT
please refer to the above brochure
if you don't have Ambank CC then you can use Maybank/Citibank credit card to purchase without instalment plan smile.gif

payment method?
you can add the ram yourself, provided your upgrade does not affect the other hardwares, otherwise your warranty is void
for ram purchase, it depends on your area...

I just received called from Tiong Nam (courier company), that they will send my 2140 tonight rclxms.gif
I placed my order on 20th Mar, less than 10 working days to deliver (already own AMBank Card)... rclxms.gif

I go for rm1299 package, will install XP myself and getting 2GB ram and BT dongle from coming PC Fair.
save my money to get extra 6 cells battery with additional rm370.

Bro, my question is buying it with RETAIL PRICE not PROMO.

I don't mind paying more (Retail Price) as long as i can purchase it with Maybank CC, it's still cheaper than buying from SG.

Hi,

I just ordered 2140 last week and was pretty excited with the purchase. However I have 2 things that I would like to point out that kinda pour cold water on my excitement. sad.gif

1. The Silver Color Carrying Case
Does anyone got the free carrying case? (Supposedly for the first 50 orders only)

2. Screen Resolution
I have read about the non-standard resolution (1024X576) and it seems to cause quite some issues to certain applications? ohmy.gif Maybe I should hold the purchase and wait for the higher resolution version to come out? Any thoughts on this?

Ya. After researching a bit, I think I can live with it biggrin.gif (Its just 24pixels less anyway) but the thing that bugs me is that I read that they will come out with a higher resolution screen (1366X768) which is much more fantastic for just USD25/RM90 in early April. Which means that should I cancel the order and wait for the splendid new high res update? hmm.gif

On the screen resolution, I've personally encountered problem with Firefox during full screen mode whereby you can see part of your desktop on the right hand side of the screen. Thus I've uninstalled Firefox based on that reason and also due to the fact it is the slowest browser on the HP Mini 2140. Watching movie is a whole different story, it displays the movie in full screen without the letterbox.

there are no official price yet as it is not launched in malaysia yet. Only a pre-launch where it is being sold to ambank credit card holders. It is sold at RM1399 to ambank card holders. Said to be rm300 cheaper than market rate. So, market price should be rm1699. And I estimate street price should be rm1599.

Info as shared by surf476, if referred to the Retail Price column; it should be around that range for WinXP config. Which I think is cheap!! thumbup.gif

as i know, you can upgrade it within 3 months from your original purchase date.

referring to the above pic i think you better call HP Toll Free because the care pack of HP minis may be different from the normal desktop/laptop

Dont think ff3 is slower than IE7... should be due to heavy tax from other applications
can try ff3 portable version.

It is slower however perhaps you are right; maybe its due to Norton Internet Security (NIS). But it shouldn't be that bad as IE7 also has NIS integrated and it loads a fraction longer than Chrome (which doesn't have NIS integrated).

Read about the Firefox portable version, didn't bother as I'm currently contempt with IE7.

i vote for warranty
if have prob just get FOC service

6cell batt only long lasting duration
but the usage/lifespan of the batt will slowly decrease day by day

alternate..just use adapter.

I would go for the 2 years warranty for that extra piece of mind since you will carry it everywhere. 6-cell battery is nice for that extra juice, but it breaks the nice slim profile, make it heavier and harder to find a slipcase.

Nope, it is not hot at the palm rest when you run more than 30 minutes.. however it is slightly warm at the cpu vents when the fan is on full blow. Though it is not noticeable at all when you're doing work or play.

I dont think it would be cheaper, maybe at the same retail price, but u can get free gift la......
There is info around that the 2140 model with 1024 x 768 resolution will be available soon, but do u think Malaysia will have it?

Even for this 2140 model 1024 x 576 already launch in other country for so long also not available in malaysia for this moment.

I had place my order, rather than waiting for PC fair or wat, of course i want the 1024 x 768 model, but i dont think it will available in malaysia market very soon.

day after day, HP malaysia is taking their own sweet time to bring in this model. My interest to this has really gone. I am getting whatever available in this coming pc fair. Probably a lenovo s10 or asus eee 1000HE.

HP don't know how to take advantage of PC fair. Bad marketing manager.

It's probably an oldschool marketing manager who uses conventional marketing strategy. In this internet era, it's more important to gather information from the internet. Working people now, generally need to be more internet savvy. A lot of their work and information gathering is moving towards the internet. You can't believe everything on the internet but it's a great tool to gather information and analyse it towards your advantage. I am certainly not in the line of marketing. This is just my own observation, perhaps there are other factors to consider which I am not aware. But hell, PC market now is so competitive, 2 month difference is a lot of difference. Singapore already launch in 1 March, don't understand why they only launching in May (not confirmed yet maybe delay again).

One good example of bringing in products late, look no further but the iphone. Maxis took too long to bring it here. I heard from insider that the response for iphone is not good. That's because those who want one most probably already owned it. They are targetting the highend market where people can afford to pay RM3000 for a phone. If they can afford, they already buy from blackmarket don't need to wait for them to bring in.

Interested to know, HP Mini 1001TU vs HP Mini 2140. Other than hardisk storage and RAM, HP Mini 2140 is better in terms of what? Personally I prefer the outlook of 2140, but for the specs, I've really no ideas. Still wondering whether should get a 1001 by the incoming PC Fair or waiting for the dear 2140...

AFAIK, netbooks running with 1.6GHz Atom and 1GB RAM has no problem running DOTA.
i've read about it quite a lot in netbook reviews for different models all across the net

It works fine. Bear in mind though, the 1001TU only has 2 useable USB ports (the 3rd is buried inside the casing). Also, USB HDD is somewhat slower than internal HDD. Other than that, no problem at all. I'm using an external 1.5TB right now.

1.5TB external hdd won't burden your mini 1001, will it? eg. running slower?

DOTA, Warcraft still ok... CS sure need another display. biggrin.gif but again... it's good when u are out side and waitting for something/someone. biggrin.gif

not forgetting when i take photos at fashion show... this netbook really helps me lot because u can immediately view photos from the 1280 * 768 resolution.

should be lump sum. to hp all they want is payment. to AMbank all they want is thier exclusive offer to thier value customer.

contrary to what i said before about putting this purchase on hold, me being my typical self, just bought the mininote today at lowyat (after much chagrin... shessh so tired rclxub.gif ). all the same as baretta; spec & price wise, though i don't think i bought from the same shop.

anyways, i'll be selling my beloved s10 soon. to be honest, i think the s10 is better at everything the mininote has to offer except two things; keyboard & looks. which sadly are qualities that are high on my list.

the biggest drawback of the mininote to me (and this is specifically because of the type of user i am) is the glossy screen. being always on the move & outside a lot, i much prefer the matte screen, which the s10 has. also upgrading the ram is quite troublesome on the mininote, at least compared to the straightforward process of upgrading on the s10. another quality that i'll miss is the touch gesture touchpad, which allows you to zoom in & out. it's a nice added feature, though not a must have thus the fact that the mininote doesn't have that doesn't bother me as much.

few things that i like so far, is of course the famous keyboard. definitely the best on any netbook. and although i like matte more than glossy, movies do look awesome on the screen, especially in a dark environment where the occurence of glare isn't prominent. plus, the express card is a full slot unlike the s10, where there'll always be part of the express card that is exposed. just from an aesthetic viewpoint, the mininote is so, so freaking beautiful. it sorta reminds me of the time i got my first macbook pro. in love, for sure wub.gif

in conclusion, it's a worthy purchase. though if you can wait for a few months, you really should hold out for the 6 cell battery & the higher res screen. i'm just not patient enough for that, haha biggrin.gif
