OMG, i'm so glad i've held off from purchasing the mininote 1000. this baby is freaking sweet & everything i wish for in a netbook; express card, 6 cell, almost full keyboard, sexy design.

i want this NOW, but supposedly it'll be available in march? so long *sigh. i guess i'll have to stick with my ideapad s10 for now (which has almost everything i want except the keyboard is cramped & looks like a toy... and unfortunately, i just bought a 9cell batt for this lappie off ebay just a few days ago). probably will be on sale coming march... tsk tsk

Lawl, newer and better stuff are bound to be released into the market... After you buy this mininote, the next one's gonna tempt you, and that's within 6-9months...
*
i get that, though the difference is that hp mininote is always my first choice, but i had to forego it because of the specs; mininote 2133 with it's via processor & mininote 1000 with the space-waster hp slot. finally, the hp people got it right with 2140(hopefully).

i'm easily tempted but i don't buy hastily smile.gif.

and oh, people need to grasp the clear definition of a netbook, instead of always saying a model of some subnotebook or a full-blown lappie is of better value. imo if the netbook is your main laptop & all you do is on the net, word processing, youtube etc. & you want something light, a netbook is your best option. however if you do all that plus some gaming or more, a higher spec laptop (also heavier) is with better value.

for myself, the netbook is a secondary laptop, something i want to carry everywhere when no heavy processing work is involved. for that i have my main notebook, a macbook pro.

so buyers should really evaluate their needs & decide which is best. don't knock on the netbooks, especially something as sexy as the mininote 2140 biggrin.gif

the sony p looks good, but they don't have an express card slot, right? i use it a lot for 3g modem connection & firewire, and has the option of any connection offered by the express card slot for future needs. plus 8" is just way too small; it wouldn't be far off from surfing on my iphone. so 1 point for the mininote.

i have a concise & clear tier of my mobile computing needs, so their usability & functions won't overlap each other:
1. super mobile & quick surfing - iphone
2. for leisure days when i need the internet & basic computing stuff - a netbook
(for now the s10, hopefully will be mininote 2140 in the future smile.gif)
3. heavy processing work & top performance - macbook pro

in conclusion, i'm sticking with my mininote-2140-salivating. no go for the sony.

ETA: from pics of the mininote, i can only see one audio jack. so i suppose line in & out will be shared. and the silver body & keyboard with black display is very similar to apple's new aluminium body macs. i like biggrin.gif. seriously can i have one NOW?

i really hope when it arrives here in malaysia, whenever that is, there'll be a 6 cell battery version on the get go, instead of having to wait around a month or two. that'll be frustrating... sad.gif

sorry to be a little ot, but is the price much different from current retail? i'm actually thinking of buying the hp touchsmart or some sort of desktop media centre if the price is good.

as for the mininote 2140, i'm still interested but what with the rumors going around of apple actually producing their own line of netbooks, i suppose i have to to keep this purchase on hold, indefinitely.

contrary to what i said before about putting this purchase on hold, me being my typical self, just bought the mininote today at lowyat (after much chagrin... shessh so tired rclxub.gif ). all the same as baretta; spec & price wise, though i don't think i bought from the same shop.

anyways, i'll be selling my beloved s10 soon. to be honest, i think the s10 is better at everything the mininote has to offer except two things; keyboard & looks. which sadly are qualities that are high on my list.

the biggest drawback of the mininote to me (and this is specifically because of the type of user i am) is the glossy screen. being always on the move & outside a lot, i much prefer the matte screen, which the s10 has. also upgrading the ram is quite troublesome on the mininote, at least compared to the straightforward process of upgrading on the s10. another quality that i'll miss is the touch gesture touchpad, which allows you to zoom in & out. it's a nice added feature, though not a must have thus the fact that the mininote doesn't have that doesn't bother me as much.

few things that i like so far, is of course the famous keyboard. definitely the best on any netbook. and although i like matte more than glossy, movies do look awesome on the screen, especially in a dark environment where the occurence of glare isn't prominent. plus, the express card is a full slot unlike the s10, where there'll always be part of the express card that is exposed. just from an aesthetic viewpoint, the mininote is so, so freaking beautiful. it sorta reminds me of the time i got my first macbook pro. in love, for sure wub.gif

in conclusion, it's a worthy purchase. though if you can wait for a few months, you really should hold out for the 6 cell battery & the higher res screen. i'm just not patient enough for that, haha biggrin.gif

just upgraded the ram to 2gb. while not as straightforward, it was fairly easy. i was tempted to upgrade the hard drive as well, as i have a 250gb & 320gb extra hdd laying around. but since i'll be doing simple tasks & not storing much on it, i suppose 160gb is enough.

might shop around for a 6 cell batt over at ebay. i have a 9 cell batt for the s10 and that baby could last up until 8-9.5 hours, depending on usage.

U can buy separately too but the price is not offer price anymore.

separately, i asked a hp rep, is around rm360. i bought one from ebay for around rm180, with 12 months warranty. plus that with the original 3 cell, i'm good to go biggrin.gif

wah, price diff by half???is it original one fr HP wo???
*
of course not. it's third party, but offers the same 12 months warranty hp offers. i actually found a website that sell the original batt for half the price, but the shipping was so expensive, it's almost the same if i buy locally.

anyways, anyone who wants to buy from ebay, buy the one with the long warranty. most only offers 30/60/90 days only.
