so jonny, have you gotten your Shiseido Moisturizing Emulsion yet? so far i'd read some reviwes about it but mostly from people in the US. it's probably not suitable for their weather as it was designed with asian weather in mind i think. i'm currently using something from origins, it's pretty decent but the price/ml is a real killer, like 15ml for rm50. any suggestions on what i should get next? need something light but not too light, oil control is a plus too.
*
I bought the Moisturizing Emulsion last weekend and overall it's good. I really like the texture as it is watery and very easy to massage into skin. Even though watery it moisturizes my face well with no adverse reactions like redness or breakouts. But I must admit that the moisturizing emulsion won't fare very well as a day time moisturizer for our weather. I bought it for use at night so oil/shine control is not important for me...actually i think oil/shine control in the night is not needed at all...might even clog pores. The moist emulsion cost me RM145 for 100ml and I am very satisfied with it tbh. For daytime I use the Shiseido Men Hydrating Lotion and is one of the best moisturizers I have used so far. The amount i pump out is roughly smaller than the a panadol tablet...so 100ml going to last a long time hehe.

I have used quite a few light moisturizers that promise oil control but none really work more than a few hours la in our msian weather. Clarins Shine Free Gel is quite good and offers the best oil control la among the ones I have tried but it is pricey la, RM147 for 50ml...I found the scent a bit too strong. Clinique Oil Control Hydrator is good too but leaves a white powdery marks if u don't massage in properly.Price is RM140 for 50ml. Something cheaper is Clinique M Gel but I found it too basic for the price so that's why I changed to Shiseido...RM140 for 100ml.

Kiehl's has 2 oil control moisturizers Blue Herbal Moisturizer and Rare Earth Oil Control Lotion. I recently got a sample of the Blue Herbal Moisturizer and it is quite decent in terms of oil control but doesn't moisturize very well...price is quite good...RM90 for 100ml...but it is more for oily acne prone skins. Biotherm Homme T Pur mattifying moisturizer is just decent la and tbh doesn't control oil very well. Shiseido Men makes an Anti Shine Refresher and based on a few uses from a 2ml sample, it's one of the best but doesn't moisturize and is really expensive...RM135 for 30ml. Avene makes a mattifying light moisturizer but I have not tried it before...price is within RM50-RM100 for 40-50ml. I might try avene. I have tried neutrogena oil free moist, garnier men and vichy...none really work and they just give this silky smooth feeling initially which makes u think oil is controlled but it isn't and within a few hours it's back to normal.

Keep in mind that almost all these oil control moisturizers contain high amount of alcohol so if u have any previous bad experiences with alcohol in skin care products u might want to think twice about trying them. Like I said earlier nothing really controls oil in our weather so I resort to the cheaper alternative...Gatsby oil Clear Sheet LOL..one sheet every 3-4 hours keeps me shine free.

Hey jonny4, you've got any moisturizer recommendation for silicone free ingredients? I figured out all the products I've tested has silicone and it clogs my pores. Only Shiseido's hydrating lotion worked wonders.

I can't think of any at the moment haha. Almost all the moisturizers i have used over the years contain silicone. Fruit of The Earth Aloe Gel doesn't contain silicones but I don't really consider it a good moisturizer.

The Hydrating Lotion is really a 5 star product.

yes I totally agree with you, it can be even used to sooth/prevent breakouts =D

Btw few days back, Dermalogica came to our campus for some skin workshop, trying to introduce their new products for teens, Clean Start.

You can checkout their products here --> http://www.cleanstart.my/

In the workshop, apart from being educated of skin care procedures, they also let us try their new products. I would say their products are very drying for my skin after the trial session. Their scrub, which uses silicone exfoliators are really mediocre. I would feel it clogs more pores more than exfoliating lol. Overall didn't recommend that line to teens, since they are towards oil controlling function assuming teens skin are usually active and oily. Pricewise, its not worth it either. Just want to advice anyone interested to try Clean Start to stay away. I only used it one time, all range, from their cleanser to toner to moisturizer, only after 2 hours, it made my skin so dry and uncomfortable that I had to wash it off. doh.gif

Clean Start sounds like a Clinique 3 step clone haha. Overly drying products is really not the way to go for oily skin. That's why I stopped using toner/astringents in my daily routine.

What are silicone exfoliators ? those scrubbing particles made of polyethylene ?

yup similar to those, but those particles were kinda tiny... my only concern is it might get stuck in the pores while scrubbing. Would definitely prefer their skin prep scrub... its a very good scrub in my opinion, it smoothen my skin while hydrating it, doesn't feel drying after scrubbing

Don't worry those scrub particles won't clog your pores instead those particles will unclog pores...the smaller the particles the better as it irritates the skin less.

The Shiseido Hydrating Lotion looks like liquid, how do you apply something like that to your face? I'm probably gonna try this one for a change(been using cream/gel products mostly), deos it come in different sizes or just 150ml?

The Hydrating Lotion is actually a hydrating toner but with alcohol. I got oily skin so the amount of moisturization is sufficient for me and I only use it in the daytime. The bottle comes with a drip type nozzle so a few drops onto my palm (a 5 sen size coin puddle) is more than enough to cover my face and neck. The moist emulsion is basically a thicker heavier version of the hydrating lotion. It only comes in 150ml but right now Shiseido does have trial packs which come with 20/30ml hydrating lotion, moisturizing emulsion, cleansing foam and 15ml total revitalizer...all for RM99.

If u do get the Shiseido Men products don't follow the application instructions that tell u to "apply generously" or "use 2 pumps". I followed their instructions initially and it was really way too much for me. Just apply accordingly to your skin's needs should be fine already.

Here's a good regimen for the face both guys and girls especially if you suffer from oily skin prone to acne.

Before bed, wash face with a soap for sensitive skin such as dove soap.

Dry your face, then apply Magnesium Hydroxide over the entire face. Magnesium Hydroxide is commonly called "Milk of Magnesia" and can be bought over the counter at any pharmacy. Its completely safe. user posted image

It absorb the oil and dirt from your skin, leaves it soft and opens up your pores much better to relieve pimples.

Repeat this every night before you go to bed, it won't cure your acne but it will help prevent breakouts. rolleyes.gif

I know that Milk of Magnesia is used by many makeup artists to prep the skin up for makeup. I hear it works very well to control facial oil because it basically closes up the pores so no oil can seep out. I wanted to try it but I have i have also read that many people have complained that they had bad breakouts caused by the pores being clogged with MoM and the alkali nature of MoM.

So please don't claim using MoM is completely safe because some guys here will just follow blindly and might get bad results on their faces. Everyone's mileage always varies biggrin.gif

hmm, i remember looking at it, it looks so small and tiny like crystals... you know the garnier moisturiser when u apply and it dries and from those small crystals? exactly similar thing, but its used as a scrub particle... another thing about this scrub is that it also works as a mask... lol 2 in 1 product

Well a scrub only stays on the skin a few minutes at most so I dun see the risk of the pores getting clogged. Plus how fine can the scrub particles get ? too fine and it serves no purpose already.

I dont dare to try lol... even the SA recommend me not to try after i told her I get lots of oil seed using moisturizing emulsion just at night for 1 week. The week after that, breakout starts to occur at some part of my face... whoa.. I guess I'm in phobia to try any rich moisturizer anymore. In fact the moisturizing emulsion is for dry skin... so perhaps I understand why I'm getting such bad effect on my face.

Edit: total revitalizer is rm200++... for 50ml.... u really dont mind? its really pricey... sweat.gif

I was told by the SA the moist emulsion is for all skin types. I do agree as I been using it for about a month and it has improved my skin...no breakouts or any side effects even though my skin is oily. Probably at your age u don't need moisturizers just yet...it's the opposite for me as I'm almost reaching 30. The total revitalizer has good anti aging and antioxidant properties so RM250 for 50ml is alright for me.

Perhaps its time for you to get the sample before buying... if i know 2/3 of the products doesn't work on me, I would have just bought the cleanser straight away rather than the trial kit.

Just a question, if that particular moisturiser clogs ure skin when u r in ure mid 20's, will they do the same thing when you are mid 30's? Quite curious about this.
