not a fan of those sweet fruity smell kind of thing..

Opium would be the best choice among the three. Very good sillage and longevity.

Subtil is too light and fades fast. L'Homme is fairly average but I love wearing it.

went fragrance lurking with my gf just now laugh.gif

tried all kind of things. most of them i try on paper first, if its kind of intriguing then only i tried on skin. so i write here so i will remember. consider it as my noob review to noob readers here lol.

Platinum Egoiste - smells like generic stuff, very familiar, from the old school, but probably 'classic' is the right word. tried the new Eau De Blue but still i think its generic.

Prada d'Homme/Iris/Amber - somehow i have a hard time differentiating between this three. they all smell almost the same LOL. tried to like them coz i heard ppl say Prada ones are very clean and luxurious, but at the end i dont really like them coz i think they smells like rubber band. anyone know what this note actually is?

Bulgari Black- i tried to find rubber and leather, but only manage to find some kind of black tea. LOL. but still i recommend it if want to find something different. anyone can recommend other rubber/leather frags? John Varvatos available in KL ?

Live Jazz - yes minty, but too herbal for my taste. Didnt find it really appealing for a fresh and clean scent.

Paul Smith Story - It dissapeared into nothing after a couple of minutes on paper, only left with something smelling like tea. have to try again.

Lacoste Essential/Dunhill Fresh - very fresh and clean but nothing really impressive to me.

Gucci by Gucci - this one get my attention, the smell is really distinctive from the others, its fresh but still masculine, also i donno if its only psychological thing, but when i tried to blend it with cigarette smoke it smells more sensual. my gf also agree with me. i already grab it if i didnt think the longevity abit sucked, but im gonna try it again next time. hope the SA wont recognize us. laugh.gif

this is only my noob opinion, dont take it too seriously. thumbup.gif

Added on January 17, 2011, 2:20 pmI did some perfume lurking at tang's vivocity too..

Creed Original vetiver - Fresh scent, with lotsa minty citrusy burst but cost like SGD249 for a 150ml bottle..

Serge Lutens - one of the bottle, dark musky smell, cant remember

Hermes - Jardin - cant really broadcast sillage

JPG le terrible - toned down of the original Le Male

Chanel Allure homme - this VS Chanel Allure Homme Sports - My friend says that allure homme smells better

Allure Home ori vs the Sport Version...I agree with ur friend...the original one smells better, sweeter and less citric...

my sister bought me the sports version despite my reminding her to buy the clear transparent version which is allure homme...im afraid, the sports version will be just collecting dust inside my drawer

BTW guys, do you know any place where I can find Abercrombie and Fitch fierce...i swear by this fragrance....! its a chick magnet...

and another one im interested in getting is Lolita Lempicka au masculine....after reading reviews etc, Im thinking of getting this one...know where i can get these?

A&F Fierce is hard to get outside US. but a lot people say its comparable to Egoiste Platinum. sort of grown up version of it.

Fierce is very commonly worn overseas especially in the US. That is one of the main causes of general dislike of Fierce on Basenotes. As Fierce is not available here in Msia I guess it would smell somewhat unique. But then again with a mass produced frag like Fierce lets not expect it to be in anyway groundbreaking. Generic overseas...slightly unique in Msia...that would be the best way to describe Fierce.

Malayneum might find Fierce similar to P.Egoiste but that's his personal opinion...that's the great thing about frags, everyone interprets a scent differently. Reviews n opinions should be used as a guide and not the main reason why u buy a frag.

yeah i agree with this. we should not blindly trust reviews in Basenotes or any American based sites. must take it with a grain of salt. furthermore, you will find all sorts of snobs and connoisseur wannabe on the net. some niche fan will go bash designer frags for lacking 'taste' eventhough it is a good scent actually.

while there are many good and reliable reviewers on the net, they tried their best to define a scent according to their available understanding, but it will an effort of futility if at the end of the day the scent smells like Minyak Cap Kapak to us.

for example orientals and incense may have a sort of mystery in the west, but they are common and regular stuff over here. like last time i tried Bulgari Black, almost EVERY reviews on the internet will say it smells like rubber from tyre shop, but when i smell it, its nothing close. i finally found out those westerners cannot differentiate between a tyre shop and chinese black tea LOL. just try giving a Durian to a westerner, you will be amazed by all the descriptions they come up with. laugh.gif

much agreeable on that...and moreover do remember that they had 4 season which is also a factor of how a perfume diffuse, i.e perfume that they use in winter complain about sillage wherelese over here is a monster...!!!
past few days it was very cooling in singapore 21deg..i wore the perfume that cant really project well enough.. i was thinking sprayed too little ended up over-spray and someone fainted in the company... LOL just kidding..
the perfume : YSL l'homme

over in singapore they do sell mini decants i.e 1-5ml perfume at lucky plaza, and also "tester" sets, for perfume collectors, i would recommend you to do this, go over to next door tangs or ion/isetan which is further up, test the perfume you want, then go over lucky plaza and look for tester units, which cost slightly cheaper, however do remember to test the perfume out to make sure the it is still o.k

i've just tested d&g mini sample perfume on the one and the one gentleman...

the one gentleman - slightly powdery low sillage on cold weather(assuming i am in my room for 2 hours temp 22-25 deg) skin scent

the one - sweet, better projection that the one gentleman

jonny, i am temp between allure homme VS sports VS edition blance,
chanel platinium egoste, egoiste,rive gauche

in terms of longivty vs sillage vs for smokers

Thank god u oversprayed L'Homme and not Kouros LOL. I love Kouros btw.

Yea I have bought quite a few decants from a seller in Singapore.

Gentleman didn't really impress me tbh and found The One more interesting (I own a bottle biggrin.gif )

go with Rive Gauche. RG is one frag I got to stop myself fr wearing too often if not the bottle will finish fast. Egoiste would work too but the silage n longevity is a little low.

yeah. agreed with jonny. Rive Gauche probably can cover the smell of cigarettes. the same goes to Kouros. may act as a smoke "neutralizer" since the scents are stronger. boy i love Kouros...but my wife despise it. it's a shame she only like me wearing 212 sexy men. sheesh..woman.

First thing u shud do go test those frags u can redeem. Other ppl's opinions don't really matter coz u r going to wear the frag.

When u r free go to a mall n test frags. Parkson@Pavilion is a good place as there is a lot of variety there. don't test too many at once and try to test on skin instead of those paper strips. Once u have narrowed down your list maybe u can post it here and we can give feedback in terms of sillage and longevity. Don't limit yourself to common brands like CK, Amani and Hugo Boss. There r plenty of other brands like YSL, Cartier and Guerlain out there that have really good unique frags.

Very Briefly,

polo black ralph lauren - horrible. short lasting n weak.

armani code giorgio armani - kinda powdery but not overpowering...very versatile. I like this one. longevity n sillage is pretty average.

euphoria men calvin kelin - very smooth with a hint of frutiness. longevity n sillage is terrible.

DKNY, be delicious - fresh n fruity...loved by teenage boys everywhere. again sillage n longevity is terrible.

Burberry touch for men - powdery n flowery and can be a little overpowering if u r used to wearing CK n DKNY frags. But a pretty good frag nonetheless. sillage n longevity is good.

If I had to choose from those 5 frags, i'll go with either Touch or Code. But that's just me wink.gif

^^^ is my own personal opinion. pls go n test them out on skin n decide which one u like the best.
