Waahh.. if they are selling at RM85, you're right, might as well buy from Amazon.
Who is so damn stupid to pay RM85 for fakes?

I bought Transformer BD last week during the Black Friday event only for US$10 (RM36.5), and shipping via
vpost with other bundles worked out approx. RM12.5 for that title.  Total is around RM50 for an original 2 discs Transformer.

Damn jack sparrow in Malaysia wanted to charge by number of discs too.
*
RM 12.50 for shipping. Let me guess, around 7-8 titles in tha Vpost package? tongue.gif

Yes... that's right. I wish I could put more but afraid of custom. tongue.gif

Amazon sometimes have very good deals on ori BDs and esp. around the holidays.
Also, I can buy from other web sites too like Deep Discounts... sweet..
they had 30% off last week.. I got Wall-E 3-discs and HellBoy 2 for $15 each.

Again.. no need to pay Jack Sparrows for shitty worthless high price fakes.

From my experience, 10 is max. Providing all are using the single casing, it will fit into the small Amazon box and will cost Rm 10 each.

The fact that the BDR is only a single-layered 25GB disc only means that the audio/video has been re-encoded to lower bitrate. The original BDs (Cars & 300) are double-layered 50GB discs.

If the re-encoded the audio, it will no longer be lossless no matter what HD format they put.
*
Aiman,

Not necessarily right. They could always remove the extras and the additional languages and only keep one lossless audio. Some of the movies do not exceed 25G with 1 audio. I believe it is possible especially on the titles that only use up 30G of the space only and the rest are used for extras..

Anyway, something needs to give if pirates want to cramp everything into one BD25. Same thing as the pirates do for the DVDs as well. The compress a dual layer D9 into a single layer and the man on the street does not complain. The main problem is the man on the street and particularly Malaysians. We do not demand better, eg watching bad DVD D9 copies by supporting piracy and not caring about quality. Its down to the mentality. If only the movie studios could come up with a better pricing strategy for Asian countries and say we get Amazon like prices for ori DVD and BD in Malaysia, I believe more and more people will buy ori. As long as the current pricing structure remains, hope for ori BD and DVD in Malaysia is really looking gloomy...We would still need to import..

^ well said anfieldude.

its up to studios to come up with sound pricing and marketing strategy in Asian region. Furthermore, studios need to 'get their hands on' the distribution of BDs in our region, hence reposition BD as a dvd replacement, not niche product like what sony and speedy do currently.

have someone watched David Gilmour's Remember the Night? it's a must see for pink floyd fans and still a great entertainment for those who aren't. even though the PQ is not comparable to top movies, to see such a great performance and magnificent real life light work is something to treasure.

Not all titles bro. Live Free or Die Hard is 38GB total. One Dolby Digital 5.1 448kbps track is less than 400MB, at 640kbps maybe less than 600MB. It's pretty good bet that's the video and one lossless track alone could be way over 25GB as the original disc has no other extras except for the D-Box which I don't think will take up so much space.

And that Live Free or Die Hard is using DTS-HD MA, imagine for those titles with umcompressed PCM tracks.

I know about the DVD scenario in Malaysia, that's why there is almost impossible to find a real DVD9 nowadays. And I've done my own re-encoding to single-layered DVDs myself, I knwo how it works.

I'm all for cheaper original BDs, who would complain? But I will not support pirated discs, especially if they're 25GB discs priced as almost the same of an original 50GB discs. I know I'm always looking for hgih qualities regardless of the mentality of the general public.

Agreed. Piracy is not the way to go. The problem is in Asia it will always exist. The only reason DVD in Asia picked up so much and the price of DVD players dropped is due to piracy. I believe for the BD format to survive and pick up in Asia the same thing needs to happen. More and more people are downloading from the net which in itself is piracy. The original DVD/BD pricing is important in this region. In the US anti piracy laws a very strict but more importantly the price of the BD/DVD is low for their income level. Moreover, they have fantastic rental like Blockbuster/Netflix that you can go rent high quality BD for as low as USD1-2 per title per day. For them it is the same as RM1-2 per day. I believe some forumers are doing so but it is still not as far reaching as the US/Europe. Things need to change for this to become mainstream in Asia. A lot of people come over to my house to watch BD and are left awed after they see the potential but 99% of them balk at the price even I pay for the BD and I have failed to convert these people to see the value in original. They rather go back to their RM5 DVD9 single layer and give up the quality. I think this needs to change. Same scenario as seen in the political scene.

BD needs to pick up and sadly for it to pick up in Asia and for BD player prices to drop worldwide I really think Asia needs to contribute. That, in my opinion, for Asia can only happen thru BD piracy. Same as how VHS>VCD>DVD became popular in Asia.

Still it does not mean I support piracy, but I fear this is the only way for BD to pick up ground

For piracy to die down, we need original prices to be affordable.
This won't happen unless the bigwigs of movie studios/distributors open to Asia with FAIR PRICES (less greed).

Currently it is unfair to us, thus we are all flocking to Amazon and other US based retailers, while the pirates have a free run here.

Piracy won't die due to pricing. Why? Ppl will always buy cheaper product.

Piracy will die due to strict enforcement which won't happen when our police chief is under their wraps.

Since the US has anti-piracy law and very active enforcement... another thing is that they always get cheaper stuff than us here in malaysia.... we cannot simply compare to them...

We are all complaining abt blu-ray pricing here so expensive locally... still those ori dvds are still too expensive, making blu-ray prices even higher (sad but thats business)... even those cheap dvds reprinted here locally are not worthwhile imho

for blu-ray to be mainstream, it needs to get high demand and making dvd obsolete... so it is importantant to educate the public abt blu-ray technology.... bringing the ultimate hi-def home entertainment... adoption rate will rise...

some ppl haven't even heard of blu-ray...

atm the mainstream is still dvd, yet ppl complained dvd prices too expensive n resort to piracy instead.... who wouldn't tempted into cheap dvds...

as for bd piracy, its just lame tactic to woo ppl of its hi-def bd... in fact its just dvd... so dont support it...

I think you hit it on the nail there. I think those movies avid fans do need to be educated that
those so called hi-def fakes are really nothing more than regular DVDs with fake BD case. Why pay more for it?

If they wanted pay more for better quality fakes to view on their new (& original) BD player..
they might as well get the original BD at the same price.

Shessh..RM85.. for a fake Blu. This is crazy! shakehead.gif
The buyers must be stupid. The Jack Sparrows must be having hellavua day ripping them off.

first you can always check the inner ring behind the bluray, normally original BD contains lotsa of serial numbers and bar coded imprinted on it..

fake BD won't go to the extend to implant the bar code and serial numbers on it

secondly you can always post the name of the seller here so that other people are aware

unfortunately for the filthy pirates, a blank BD costs around RM60-RM70. so who in their right mind would want to pay RM85 for their so called "grade 1" fake BD? I rather pay a little bit more for originals then buy their stupid fakes. "grade 1" BDs my foot!

you got a valid point there.. 1movie + 1 lossless track (without re-encoding) could probably fit a 25GB disc..
