The saddest part of it all...the James Bond wannabes does it way better than Spectre by a long mile. Melissa McCarthy puts up a more interesting fight scene than the one in the train with Dave Batiusta.

Just watched MI5. It's true... it's much better than Spectre...
1. The main actress is far better than the Bond girl. Sexier, stronger and more interesting
2. The heist section in MI5 was quite interesting and the car/motorcycle chase > any chase in Spectre
3. The teamwork in MI5 was better as well
4. The main villain is also more kickass than Blofeld

Sadly the imitator is now better than the original.

Cannot compare like that.

007 is also should be an action movie, never a thriller!

Anyway I just watched today and IMHO it's quite a let down, especially because the bad guy was too easily defeated and Bond too easily escaped from getting killed. The most obvious examples were:
1. Already drilled in the cheek and behind the neck but no effect whatsoever with Bond and no logic explanation also.
2. After that so easily escaped from the Spectre HQ, just throw a bomb watch and shot like less than 10 people to fly off with a heli.
3. Again so easily escaped the last bomb with the girl.
4. So easily brought down the bad guy's heli with just a handgun! Why on earth also the heli just flew so slow and low over the water even after being shot a few times?
All those just had not logic at all, like the they have run out of ideas to make the script more interesting and make sense.

The only highlights of the movie IMHO were only these 3:
1. The first fight scene in the heli (seems so many helicopter involved in this movie!).
2. The car chase with the funny moment pushing the old guy's Fiat. Nice cars for Bond and the chaser too.
3. The fight in the train where Bond almost got thrown out.
Other than those yeah, rather average movie, I'd just give it a 6.5/10 and rate it as the worst Bond movie I can ever remember. Out of the movies I've watched so far this year, only Everest was more disappointing.

I thought Spectre was pretty good for me...not to the level of Casino Royale but pretty good nonetheless.

1. I liked the single continuous shot in the beginning, during the Mexico City parade, into the hotel and out the window, nicely shot I think.
2. Blofeld! And the origin story of his scarred eye.
3. Connection to previous Bond movies and Mr. White
4. The very real threat of over surveillance in today's society.
5. A better car chase than Casino Royale (but can't match the Quantum opening)
6. Finally the dynamic of old Bond films coming back, 1 main badguy and his henchman; Moneypenny, Q and M etc.

Dislikes
1. This felt like a homage...too many films are trying to redo past plotlines; Blofeld, Star Trek's Khan, Jurassic World, Force Awakens?
2. Too little of Christoph Waltz...we know he can be a really good villain but we barely saw him.
3. The romance plotline felt cheap. Made us feel like he's really gotten over Vesper after he spent 1 movie with her and 1 movie chasing her memory.
4. Only so-so action...the action never really took it to the next level for me.
5. obvious plot - kinda obvious who the bad guy was and the moment South Africa kena bomb after we just saw that they didn't vote in favour of the surveillance plan we already know who is the bad guy

All in all, if you can set aside your expectations, you'll enjoy this in my opinion. It doesn't do anything different, but at the same time doesn't get a whole lot wrong

James Bond is an intelligence agent, he works for MI6. He gathers intelligence and those activities do not involve much action. The action came only when he is intercepted while gathering intelligence or as a result of executing the decisions that are made from the intelligence. For this, James Bond is not an action movie. It is a thriller, the action is secondary and to commercialized the movie.

Three rumored film directors to helm Bond 25.
Yann Demange - His debut '71 is an excellent action thriller in the mold of Argo. Think he is ideal to bring in that British sensibility of Bond.
David Mackenzie - He blew up with last year's Hell or High Water and currently working on a different iteration of Braveheart's story.
Denis Villenueve - Self explanatory.

These are 3 solid choices of filmmakers that operate in the realm "Oscar potential winner" breed of directors.

Guess Christopher Nolan didn't make it into the shortlist and then again this is not by any chance an official statement from the production company so the list may change in the future.
