Yes when you speak with them, of course you'll have the accent. Can't help it, even I myself have it. But when you're around your root, you can still switch back to Man-glish. Trust me, you can.

Unless you go to primary school there, then I understand. Then its almost impossible to change.

What if you never spoke English before you started studying in the States? (me) Being a Malay, I've always known how to write but never really spoke the language, and I was forced to start speaking English when I got there at 20 y/o of age.

Hanging around them (Americans), I could only learn their way of pronunciation, and heck I was in the country side so I ended up using a lot of 'y'all'.

IMO, stereotyping Malaysians with American accents as snobs is just as bad as pretending you have a better social status because you studied overseas.

Right? and to think that some people accused me of being malay-hater cuz i got rid of my accent when I in fact, has never spoke Man-glish before.

EVER.

It's not like I speak Malay with an American accent, lawls.

I just don't know how to speak English, with a Malaysian accent, with all the "lah"s and what not. Cuz I've never done it. Sue me.

edit: I guess sometimes the accent does come out, but I just don't speak Malay-english, phua chu kang style.

Hi all, Im interested in Taylor's ADP.

It is indicated in their official website that Taylor's ADP for business is affiliated to a few good American Universities such as University of Wiconsin (Madison), Ohio State University and University of Southearn California. So my question is, how reliable is this information? Have anyone heard of Taylor's ADP student getting transferred to one of the above mentioned universities successfully? When they say 'affiliated', does it mean I'll be able to transfer majority of my credits?

Please advice guys. Thanks!

I agree. What's wrong with the Malaysian accent? As long as you speak perfect English, there is nothing wrong if it sounds Malaysian. Nobody corrected the American Southerners or Irish or Welsh for their heavily-accented English, which I believe sound worse than Malaysian English. Just because they look more Anglo shouldn't be a reason to give them more credit for their spoken English.

i left it in my us bank acc... i made total 12k wage + 3k tips.. after tax n expenses i made 13k usd ^^

ermm.. if u r studying the most u can make is 800usd.. but if u work like me 12 hours 6 days.. u will be able to make like 3k a month.. my friend works like crazy makes 4.5k.. sometimes we dont really work but just stay at the work place n get paid.. lol

we get tax.. from my 12k wage i got tax 1.1k.... so that means i take back 10.1k... but when i claim my tax back i claim 1.4k back.. lol.. what a joke.. please dont tell IRS, as i claim as a resident.. ahhahaa.. some ppl even worse claim their tax + 700usd.. lol.. instead of paying tax they pay u back with even more $$$

When they say affiliated, they just mean that there were students who transfered to the Unis in US mentioned and the Unis in US mentioned recognizes the credits offered by Taylor's Uni.

And yes , many got into wisconsin and OSU, not so many applied and got into USC. The other good unis that adpians usually go to is UMich and IUB.

Cherry. You're still in ADP? I just finished my ADP last sem. smile.gif and i have to agree. theater is awesome.

and yes you'll be able to transfer around 3/4 of your credits smile.gif

I am doing A-level and IELTS now, do i still have to sit for Sat 1 or/and Sat 2 ,TOEFL when I apply for Universities in US ? I started my A-level in Jan 2011, What timing should I take the exams ? Can I handle the exams only with my preparation in A-level ? Thanks in advance.

If I'm not mistaken, if you have the IELTS, you don't need TOEFL. You have to sit for SAT 1 for sure, SAT 2 is optional. The exams are valid for about 2 years after you take them I think ... so time it so that it covers when you apply for your universities.

SATs are just math and english.

I think what makes or break your overseas exposure is not the ranking of the university or how many PhD's your lecturer has, but rather the people whom you hang around with and the environment.

I'm into my first semester at Australia and I deeply regret not going for student hostel accommodation. Due to price, I opted to stay out on my own (apartment). As a result, I find it very difficult to get to know different mixes of people. I only hang around Malaysians in uni because 90% of my coursemates are Asians anyway (health science course..). On the other hand, my friend lives in a hostel-type environment and they have tonnes of activities, gatherings, fun & games.. etc.

Of course, this can change if you were to join clubs at university and go for events.

The bottom line is to.. socialise!

Prior to coming to Australia for my study, I went to China to do a short language course in which I actually stayed in a hostel environment and got to know many different people. I got to know people from different countries, different cultures. We taught each other about the places we come from and I was surprised at the amount of things I picked up.

I find life in Aussie a bit too laidback for me. However, things are done more efficiently here and people are more polite. I've also gotten used to seeing lots of public displays of affection, alcohol and homosexuality.

Personally, the experience is good. Live out on your own, be independent, find new friends. But at the end of the day I still consider Malaysia as home.. no matter how low the salary.

good on you baoz. all I ever see are Malaysians sticking with Malaysians with the excuse that "they're in a new place and they want to get used to it by sticking with what they know first".

Stop wasting your parents' money if you're only going to stick with Malaysians. You can do that without leaving Malaysia.
