I agree. What's wrong with the Malaysian accent? As long as you speak perfect English, there is nothing wrong if it sounds Malaysian. Nobody corrected the American Southerners or Irish or Welsh for their heavily-accented English, which I believe sound worse than Malaysian English. Just because they look more Anglo shouldn't be a reason to give them more credit for their spoken English.
