Managed to reduce my max temps by using this method: http://forum.notebookreview.com/6256006-post84.htmlIdle: After 2 Vantage runs: I also found that after cleaning the paste that sticks to the heatsink of the GPU, underneath it is purple in colour. I'll post up a pic of it later but can anyone tell me if it's normal? Here are the pics: This post has been edited by SonicSpyro: May 17 2010, 05:50 PM

QUOTE(setoyo @ May 17 2010, 05:50 PM) SonicSpyro, u unscrew and put the paper clip? or just slip it underneath it? Better than ur last post bro... Unscrew and insert the paper clip then screw back again. You should be able to tighten it without much force. I haven't sent your box, been too busy studying for the exam.

Joking. MX3. The IC7 dried up and hardened damn fast. @_@ I look at it and it was like choc slicing. T_T

QUOTE(setoyo @ May 17 2010, 06:18 PM) MX3? not bad... for the TEMP! quite good... the gpu ram... using thermal tape right? So u just applied the gpu area right? Yeah, just the stock tape that they give with the heatsink. I just change the freaking paste to MX3. QUOTE(julchin_09 @ May 17 2010, 06:19 PM) Where did you get the MX3 here bro? I mean in Msia....thanks... Im looking for that paste. MX3, I didn't get it from here. I ordered it back when I was using the GTX 280M. Ask a Paypal buyer/seller from this forum to purchase for me.

QUOTE(setoyo @ May 17 2010, 06:21 PM) btw, Tunix TX3 is better than MX3? I think MX3 is better than TX3. Try googling. @_@ QUOTE(setoyo @ May 17 2010, 06:24 PM) Ur purple scar.. i think.. the heating scar.... That's what I thought so too. How could IC7 cause such a scar on the heatsink? Is it THAT efficient in transferring heat to the heatsink or the heatsink is a bit weak? My old GTX 280M's heatsink didn't have that scar. As far as I know, my temps has never when above 90 during gaming. Most was around 80.

Yeah. It's the original. It looks white because of the flash. Care to explain how it happened? My GTX 280M's thermal application was way worse than that but nothing happened. Even after I played Sim City Societies at max details and achieved 95 degrees temps.

QUOTE(julchin_09 @ May 17 2010, 08:45 PM) What spreading method did u use? The card method? The paste coverage doesn't seem even.... I don't know. Ask Mucro. That's their paste job.

QUOTE(julchin_09 @ May 17 2010, 08:57 PM) Oh... sorry bout that. I thought you applied it. Not too good a job. And you get temps to the max of 95degrees with the 5870? WOW! High it is.... Yeah.... once when I played BFBC2. Now the max I get is 83. After reapplying the MX3 and using the paperclip method.

QUOTE(setoyo @ May 17 2010, 09:47 PM) I need to study more before to the do the paste job... hehe... this is the nice method.. paper clip... MX3 is a quite a tough paste to properly apply. You'd need to do a few tries before you get used to applying it. Currently, I'm using the dot method on my GPU. Not gonna touch it anytime soon since the temps are quite good. Go get the AS5 or Tuniq TX-2@3. They're easier to apply if you use the spread method. Seems like more people have been voting for Sager in the worst laptop brand thread. lol..... Nothing much to worry about. Phew... What a relief. If it was something to worry about, I'd go fire Mucro for the job that they did. Gonna test again when I get IC7 from BlueBean. Hopefully this time, the temps would be way better than before.

QUOTE(BlueBean @ May 18 2010, 07:55 PM) overheat? what caused that? another minus for mucro i guess. i think i'll just get my laptop from xotic. QUOTE(Mike570U;6258395) Well, higher temps increase the oxidation rate, what kind of paste do you use? Silver nitrate-based pastes have been known to do that, especially at higher temps. The color is harmless and will not reduce the thermal conductivity of your heatsink.
QUOTE(Mike570U;6259193) Yep, that copper could turn green like the statue of liberty and will still conduct heat pretty well.. (Nonetheless, stay away from salt water.) Source: W860CU HD5870 Overheating ProblemWell, for one thing, Mucro doesn't make these laptops nor do they apply the paste. Everything comes from the US reseller (XoticPC, Sager, RJTech, Style-Note, etc) and they ship it to us after some testing to make sure everything runs well. This happened because their so called "expert" did the paste job on my HD5870. From the posts I quoted above, it seems I don't have much to worry about but it does pain me a little to see that it turned purple.

QUOTE(BlueBean @ May 18 2010, 08:15 PM) if it was my 8690, i'd be pretty upset to. i guess i'm going to apply the paste myself when i get a 8690. Haha... Yeah. If you order the stock paste. If you ordered the IC7 or that other option, it would be a damn waste to re-paste it. Guess most of the problems with Sager are from user (person using and person building the laptop) error. Nothing much to whine about the hardware as they're working perfectly (with the exception of a few cases even though they are minor issues).

QUOTE(ineser @ Jul 14 2010, 07:42 AM) That model will cost a bomb, around 8 to 9k ringgit, forget about that... 1. I think its upgradeable 2. No need as the warranty as sager notebooks rarely have any prob 3. If RMA, you gotta send it to mucro KL repair shop, not sure how long its gonna take though 4. Well if you go around and compare the price between buying the OS from mucro or buying standalone OS, just go for the cheaper. Personally I will just buy OS from mucro... 5. Its optional since sager dont have any heat problem. I think Mucro is the one doing termal paste, not sager.Hope that helps! I'll just add a bit of info on that point. In my experience, it's better that you do the paste job yourself. Mucro/Sager might apply a little bit too much and will cause some heating issues. Check my previous posts in this thread to see their work.

QUOTE(Fantasia @ Jul 15 2010, 12:27 AM) u wont even void ur warranty if u upgrade ur processor or graphic card. what do u think? +1 You can practically do a whole lot of things to the laptop and it won't void your warranty. I did one stupid thing.. Using a paperclip to put more pressure on the ATi GPU... The card "broke" and I sent it back to Mucro and now awaiting for replacement because Sager ultimately decides what happens with your warranty. What I did was, cut the can, put on the paper clip, practically burnt the circuitry of the GPU while testing to see if it was the problem when my laptop couldn't start and now a new one is coming to replace it. I think you can gauge the "void warranty" issue by looking at my case here. Update: 1.30pm: New card arrived. This post has been edited by SonicSpyro: Jul 15 2010, 01:58 PM

QUOTE(theonlywolf @ Jul 15 2010, 04:28 PM) Im impressed with the warranty given by mucro asia. Makes me think of upgrading the waranty. ^^. If i want to upgrade the warranty, which waranty should i choose? I mean either upgrading the parts waarnty or the labour warranty? Which is more worthwhile? >< Honestly saying, you won't really have to upgrade your warranty as these laptops are built to last. You will know it when you hold it the first time. It's rock solid and... almost as heavy as a rock (3.5kg excluding the charger). Check http://forum.notebookreview.com/sager-clevo/ to see how many people complain about their laptops. QUOTE(Irzani @ Jul 16 2010, 02:08 AM) Got it .. TNT - RM 205 ... Fastest and most "safe" method of getting your laptop to you. I couldn't wait so long last time and didn't want my package to be lost for being so long in transit so I took that option.
