I also found that after cleaning the paste that sticks to the heatsink of the GPU, underneath it is purple in colour. I'll post up a pic of it later but can anyone tell me if it's normal?

Unscrew and insert the paper clip then screw back again. You should be able to tighten it without much force.

Yeah, just the stock tape that they give with the heatsink. I just change the freaking paste to MX3.

MX3, I didn't get it from here. I ordered it back when I was using the GTX 280M. Ask a Paypal buyer/seller from this forum to purchase for me.

I think MX3 is better than TX3. Try googling. @_@

That's what I thought so too. How could IC7 cause such a scar on the heatsink? Is it THAT efficient in transferring heat to the heatsink or the heatsink is a bit weak? My old GTX 280M's heatsink didn't have that scar. As far as I know, my temps has never when above 90 during gaming. Most was around 80.

Yeah. It's the original. It looks white because of the flash. Care to explain how it happened? My GTX 280M's thermal application was way worse than that but nothing happened. Even after I played Sim City Societies at max details and achieved 95 degrees temps.

Yeah.... once when I played BFBC2. Now the max I get is 83. After reapplying the MX3 and using the paperclip method.

MX3 is a quite a tough paste to properly apply. You'd need to do a few tries before you get used to applying it. Currently, I'm using the dot method on my GPU. Not gonna touch it anytime soon since the temps are quite good.

Go get the AS5 or Tuniq TX-2@3. They're easier to apply if you use the spread method.

Seems like more people have been voting for Sager in the worst laptop brand thread. lol.....

Anyways, got a reply about the purple-ing of my heatsink from the people at NBR. Nothing much to worry about. Phew... What a relief. If it was something to worry about, I'd go fire Mucro for the job that they did.

Gonna test again when I get IC7 from BlueBean. Hopefully this time, the temps would be way better than before.

I'll wait. No rush. Still got more tests to do with the IC7.

Well, for one thing, Mucro doesn't make these laptops nor do they apply the paste. Everything comes from the US reseller (XoticPC, Sager, RJTech, Style-Note, etc) and they ship it to us after some testing to make sure everything runs well. This happened because their so called "expert" did the paste job on my HD5870. From the posts I quoted above, it seems I don't have much to worry about but it does pain me a little to see that it turned purple.

Haha... Yeah. If you order the stock paste. If you ordered the IC7 or that other option, it would be a damn waste to re-paste it. Guess most of the problems with Sager are from user (person using and person building the laptop) error. Nothing much to whine about the hardware as they're working perfectly (with the exception of a few cases even though they are minor issues).

I'll just add a bit of info on that point. In my experience, it's better that you do the paste job yourself. Mucro/Sager might apply a little bit too much and will cause some heating issues. Check my previous posts in this thread to see their work.

You can practically do a whole lot of things to the laptop and it won't void your warranty. I did one stupid thing.. Using a paperclip to put more pressure on the ATi GPU... The card "broke" and I sent it back to Mucro and now awaiting for replacement because Sager ultimately decides what happens with your warranty. What I did was, cut the can, put on the paper clip, practically burnt the circuitry of the GPU while testing to see if it was the problem when my laptop couldn't start and now a new one is coming to replace it. I think you can gauge the "void warranty" issue by looking at my case here.

Honestly saying, you won't really have to upgrade your warranty as these laptops are built to last. You will know it when you hold it the first time. It's rock solid and... almost as heavy as a rock (3.5kg excluding the charger).

Fastest and most "safe" method of getting your laptop to you. I couldn't wait so long last time and didn't want my package to be lost for being so long in transit so I took that option.
