QUOTE(spaceman @ Sep 28 2009, 01:03 PM)
nevertheless the one thing i wanted to ask is which is better?
1920x1200 (matte) vs 1680x1050 (glossy)

i'm wondering if for 1920x1200 will the text be too small for human eyes on 15.4" screen? but i see from the screenshot from corad (1st post) all text seem still "readable" and i would really like to go for MATTE instead of GLOSSY (reflective) cool2.gif
*
depends what you mean by "better" . 1920 x 1200 is usually used for 24" screens, so when you cram that into 15.4" , you get loads more details (not that you'll be paying attention to it while playing games tongue.gif) I would say you would only notice the difference between the 2 screens when watching HD 1080i movies.

also, only screen size will determine if you're text is readable. eg: 1280 x 800 on 15.4" is different than 1280 x 800 on a 9" screen.

don't have to worry with Sager. Aluminum chassis, huge copper heat sink & vents keep the laptop cool but quiet

QUOTE(amduser @ Oct 24 2009, 03:53 PM)

and i dont know which sager laptop suit me the best

my on laptop is:
1. college work and assignment (need longer battery life during lecture class)

2. decent gaming with decent framerate ( but i dont think i will need GTX280)

3. NO OVERHEAT ISSUES

4. on 24/7 for torrent

5. watch movie and act as a media server for my PS3

6. easy to service (open up for cleaning)

my budget would be USD 1000 +/-

so any recommendation?
*
With the bolded points, I don't think a Sager would suit you.

if you don't need high end components & want long battery life .. probably mainstream brands like Dell or HP
QUOTE(Jurlique @ Oct 24 2009, 10:03 PM)
How can u expect no overheat issues when u on 24/7 for torrent?
*
Havent used a Sager before eh? thay have aluminum chassis-es & giant (by laptop standards) copper heatsinks to keep everything safe & acceptable.

Sager oni can get at oversea?
*
There is no Malaysian reseller. The closest ones are in singapore.

QUOTE(amduser @ Oct 25 2009, 11:45 AM)
of coz i havent use sager before

i just need 2 hours something of battery life, and most of my lecture duration also 2 hours maximum, and need to concentrate on the lecturer la, cannot look at the laptop all the time laugh.gif

cannot be a media server? i think can la, even my compaq V3000 now can stream 720p movie smoothly, but overheat damn fast la.

i already ask my sister in US to help me order, she say she should be order by monday in US time, so how long will that laptop ship to her place there? coz my relative come back somewhere around 18th november, i scare cannot get in time hmm.gif

Added on October 25, 2009, 12:36 pmwant to ask also, where you all send the sager laptop for repair if there is anything?? vital computer in lowyat?

or so far sager laptop is problem-free?

Added on October 25, 2009, 7:32 pmif i choose 4GB RAM, they should know which OS to installed right? if the default OS is this, Genuine MS Windows® 7 Home Premium 32/64-Bit Edition
*
Sagers are designed as gaming machines. And there are not cheap. So if you're going to use it only for "decent" gaming , media streaming, note taking ... you can get a laptop more suited for your needs from the likes of HP , Dell .. + the fact that you get local warranty support in Msia.

QUOTE(unclegoldfish @ Oct 26 2009, 12:23 AM)
Oic....if compare sager with alienware..which one btr?
*
Asking this in a Sager thread is tongue.gif

to be honest, there are different leagues. I would like to think Sagers of enthusiast platforms. Alienware more of a mass market item.

how you know they suit my need? if they suit my need i wont even consider buying sager, what i dont like about mainstream laptop is they are to hot to run at, unless they are using intel GMA

mainstream laptop play games = heater in making.
*
You stated your needs a few posts before smile.gif

but if you're looking for something easy to upgrade, Sager is the way to go laugh.gif dosent void your warranty too , just remember to swap the original parts back if you ever need to RMA

QUOTE(Mucro.Asia @ Oct 26 2009, 10:49 AM)
We are a Malaysian Reseller with operations in  Malaysia. Is that not considered a Malaysian Reseller?

We are just making use of Singapore because of slightly cheaper logistics cost.
*
thanks for clarifying Mucro. Where are you based in M'sia ? because your website shows it as a Singaporean registered company, in Singapore.

which part to upgrade? RAM and HDD only right? i wonder if i can upgrade processor later on biggrin.gif
*
RAM, HDD, GC, proc is easy too as long as its in the same range & Clevo has a bios update to support it.

i think the only hard part would be screen tongue.gif

hope to see another Sager user here !

my friend going to get his HP dv6 from australia this sunday, seems like his spec is almost slightly better than NP8662

core i7, GT 230M, 4GB DDR2, 500GB@7200RPM

superior processor while NP8662 superior in GPU and cooling biggrin.gif
*
it's worth while to note, that GPU's are the most expensive components within a laptop.

also, Sagers use DDR3 smile.gif

I've made a comparison Sager NP8690 with M15x

QUOTE(Mr.Docter @ Oct 31 2009, 11:38 PM)
Suddenly Sager that well known as cheaper than AW looks more expensive when comparison is made?

or zairee2580 and i missing something here?

and if you stress that the different in price is due to best cooling, i don't believe it. better get AW afterall. those M15x and M17x have sufficient cooling system already.
for screen size, 17" is already big. 18" is way too big. difficult to find a beg that suit 18". plus the bigger the size, the more power form GC that you will required.
*

where did you get the Sager prices from ?

it's better to compare an apple to an apple, try looking at xoticpc.com and alienware.com then compare the price. You can get AW locally in Msia, but you can't do that with Sager/Clevo.

Like Mucro.Asia said, he has to take them from the US, and try to compete with them here. Tough tough thing to do.

Both prices came to about the same but only one...ONE major difference....the GPU....280 on sager and 260 on AW.

Cripes...from the benchmarks i can see that the 260 falls behind about 10 places from the 280.

Any inputs?

Depends what is more important to you.

Looking at your laptop, or enjoying your gameplay. trust me, you can't do both at once tongue.gif

if it's cool enough, it'll turn off automatically.

if you want to turn it off manually, just press the button on the left of your power switch

OMG, I don't own both but I come here to get feedback and I feel this comparison's thing is a little childish don't  you think?  rclxub.gif

C'mon, their both gaming notebooks with different looks, some like it this way, some like it the other.

From what I gather, both have their pros and cons from design, to warranty issues, to weight, to power, price etc....
Make it easy for us would be buyers to choose Sager or AW or we'll be just browsing through useless information here.
C'mon people..... don't take these personal. icon_rolleyes.gif I'd get both if I can
*
not really, only by comparing can you be sure you're getting the best deal smile.gif

Alienware is a branded good. You're paying for the recognition.
Sager is a niche brand. You pay for the parts thats inside.

My personal view is that, 3 years from now ... I'll still be bringing my Sager around. it might be old tech, but at least it'll still look smart tongue.gif

but enough of this alienware bashing ... has anyone here gotten their sager a cooler before ? whistling.gif whistling.gif

-BREAK-

As experienced by forumers here, these 2 options prove to be the best places to purchase Sager laptops :

www.xoticpc.com : Based in the US, cheapest price for Sagers outside of Malaysia. ** price without shipping **

Mucro.Asia : Based in Singapore, cheaper than xoticpc if you include shipping ! smile.gif

The above are all online orders only.

-/BREAK-

sorry for interrupting the thread, but i'm linking this post to the 1st page so people can easily find our local retailer icon_rolleyes.gif

i thought window 7 can search for driver on the internet? hmm.gif

but so far i havent reformat, but for my old laptop, other than processor driver and graphic driver, i also use back the driver from the disc they gave me.
*
yes, any version of windows from xp could have microsoft supplied drivers. but most of them don't use the hardware to its potential. ie: can't encrypt individual files with the biometric sensor

QUOTE(SonicSpyro @ Feb 9 2010, 08:59 PM)
Hmmm... What about warranty? Would a year be enough or should I get 2 years? I'm talking about the OFFICIAL warranty from Sager.
*
get the 2 years if you'll be in the states. otherwise don't bother, since it;ll be more worth it to buy a new laptop after 2 years.

I thought the battery would overheat @ lose some of it's charge if I turned on the charger for a long time? Or am I wrong? Any ideas on how I can lower my CPU temps? It's running at 5x on idle. My GPU on the other hand, 4x degrees.

i think those temps sound alright. not much different from desktops actually wink.gif
