Whatever floats your boat. I'm not that certain of Sager's ODM, however, for Alienware, I think they have a lot of mixtures of ODMs? Clevo being one of them, Arima being another, uniwill too.
Maybe a SSH server back at home hosted with putty? That would bypass most restrictions set by the University. Anyway, once you're done with those restrictions, how about a couple of screenies with Crysis Warhead and games like that for real performance benchmark? I'm gonna go green with envy soon.
*
Alienware dropped Clevo over "cost concerns" a year back. Now they're dealing with Uniwill for their laptops which is part of ECS and Tatung. Sagers are rebranded Clevos but if in doubt, google tongue.gif

-Helo everyone...i am new here and i hope i can get lot of knowledge here
-I hope all of you can calm down and we can have a nice forum
-I have been researching about this brand (Sager) and found that XOTICPC is one of the best dealer
-Here is some link which I think it might be useful:
- http://www.xoticpc.com/ - most of you already know about this right?
- http://www.killernotebooks.com/ - which I found this website is really made for laptop enthusiast (gamer)

-Corad,I do have some questions to ask you since I am planning to buy OCZ whitebook from xoticpc in december@hopefully in january
-I plan to configure it with crossfire 3870 which score about 15k in 3dmark06 benchmark blink.gif really make me impressed until now
-I do know about the xoticpc (order, payment, shipping) but what about the discounts you mentioned earlier in the first page (7%,25% and 3%)?
-I really curious about gaming ability of a laptop,so to make things easy,I can know the level of a laptop by simply benchmarking it with crysis(especially about its graphics configuration)...In my own experience a laptop with 8600m gt (acer 5920) already considered as a gaming laptop since it can play crysis even at low quality settings
-So I hope no more backstab between us after this..If you want to argue something then make it as evident-based argument...not emotion-based argument
-forgive me if my english is not as better as some of you but honestly i really interested if we can share knowledge here

TQ laugh.gif nod.gif

Added on October 29, 2008, 9:49 pm-Sager NP8660 is actually not as dull as some people think
-For WUXGA configuration you can get a really nice black brushed aluminium (may be you have to find good picture of it = googling)
-Corad,why you didnt take the Sager NP5793?Is 17" too big for you?@bcz you want the latest technology (ddr3,centrino2)?
-I would recommend you to take intel turbo memory(ITM) 4gb and a 7200rpm hdd for better gaming ability..
-the new itm2 really make huge impact on the laptop overall performance not as the previous itm

the 7% discount is applicable for uni students (just have to show your admission offer) , the other 25% give or take is for being an affiliate with xoticpc, I seldom post about them in lowyat tho. and the 3% is when you pay by bank transfer or money order smile.gif

yeap, and no more shooting each other down tongue.gif

try using tools like 3dmark to test out your laptop specs. It gives a number so it makes it easier to compare with other people who use the program. and don't worry about language here, as long as people can understand thumbup.gif

- 4gb of ram is a good choice for better gaming experience... but his DDR3 isn't cheap at all and he need to replace both SODIMM into 2x2gb DDR3 and sell off his 2x1gb DDR3... kinda hard to deal DDR3 around...

- 7200RPM is good for faster loading.... IMO it will be still okay with 5400RPM if u have at least 4gb of ram.... ofcoz 5400RPM still will be slightly slower in loading time but won't make game shutter since most of the needed data are loaded in memory already while loading... heavy shutter in game occur when there isnt enuf ram and need to access to the slower HDD for data...

- turbo memory is the additional stick of memory which diff from ram rite?? i've told by my Dell Customer Service Representative that the turbo memory doesn't really make significant impact as u may have seen the advertisement or watsoever from net.. He said more ordinary ram will do the job well and he dont recommend me to purchase it coz it is slightly expensive and kinda still rare in malaysia.... thats for ITM only but im not sure ITM2..

correct me if im wrong...

@corad..... where is ur 3dmark06 score???? i expect more than 12.5k at least thumbup.gif thumbup.gif

17 inches is too bulky for me so I went for the smaller 15.4. All the chasis of the np8660 are the same regardless of the screen resolution or specs inside.

Intel Turbo Memory only works on Vista and it dosen't give much of a performance boost. (and it's expensive too since it's actually just flash memory tongue.gif ). I'm planning to upgrade the RAM's on my own later (cheaper laugh.gif ) and the new large capacity hard disks(anything above 320GB) have the same read/write speed even tho they are rated 7200 or 5400RPM icon_rolleyes.gif

I did do it earlier tho (Post #13) with an "ahem" version, it gave me 3dmark06 = 12680 all on default settings. but i'll get a screenshot soon smile.gif

-Alienware is really one of the best gaming laptop in the world
-and it is one of the best looking laptop (certainly)
-but some thread (even in lowyat forum) stated that the m15x have serious problem with the hinges and the driver issues (downclock)
-there is no bad feedback from the m17x and m9750 user (correct me if i am wrong)
-but in my opinion, performance comes first and i consider the good looking as a bonus
-that's why there is some people want to have sager@ocz as their gaming laptop since it comes with excellent price-over-performence advantage
-but for the best performance,i will choose sager NP9262 configured with core 2 quad Q9650 and 9800m GTX SLI @ 9800m GT SLI
-think NP9262 as ugly and behemoth laptop?well, another options are Sager NP 5796 and OCZ whitebook (seriously have sleek body as alienware's area m15x and m17x as well as backlit keyboard which i really like it)
-try have a look at sager np5796 and OCZ Whitebook

Sorry missed this part out sweat.gif Yeap, xoticpc is the cheapest way to get a Sager without any compromises in shipping time or quality smile.gif Killernotebooks isn't so popular, but it's run by a guy who posts very frequently on TomsHardware mobility forum.

It's a Seagate. Difference with 7200 n 5400 is only noticeable in system startup & program loading times, and a 7200 increases power consumption by 5%

-a hdd with 7200rpm is really fast compared to a hdd with 5400rpm
-this bcz the hdd is the slowest part of a computer especially in a laptop
-that's why some people get raid setting for their hdd
-and now intel launching their own ssd that its performance pass even the fastest desktop hdd (one of them is velociraptor) and the result is the intel ssd really make a huge impact on gaming performance by increasing the fps of each game that is tested (one of it is crysis of course)
-I do read about itm2..i forgot about the link (and the link about the 5400rpm,7200rpm and ssd performance comparison) but what i can tell is itm2 4gb is different from itm2 2gb and the older itm..it mentioned about the pinning ability that the 4gb have but other dont have it...that's why i recommend to have it in your laptop..
-what I can point out are 7200rpm is really worth to upgrade and the same goes also to itm2 4gb

-If you want to buy great laptop with great specifications then go to XOTICPC since they really sell GAMING LAPTOP with unbelievable price (cheaper not expensive)

well, if you use the money order(7%) and student discount(3%) , I could give you another 10% which makes the total 20% off the ori price smile.gif I din't mention this discount earlier because it's actually abit tricky as xoticpc only cashes out when the central account has a certain amount of money. So depending on how many sales other affiliates make, it could take quite a while before I can return this money to you.

I used to offer it to my buyers up front, but it got complicated since the wait time is uncertain.

and just to clarify, the amount of comission i get depends on the number of systems sold through my links. usally I get 2-3 out per month so that gives me 10% which I'm happy to pass back to the forumers here biggrin.gif

ITM 2, aka Robson 2 (featured in Montevina platform) is actually the improved version of ITM, aka Robson.

you pay $2000 smile.gif . I'll give you a link to the product you want to buy and that gives me $$ which i'll pass back to you through paypal. Do note that this process is not instantaneous, so it may take awhile before you get that 10% back. You are still dealing straight with xoticpc, and my role is only as the referer. So you wont have to give me any information apart from the account I'm returning the money to.

p/s: this is between the thread surfers here alright ? tongue.gif Affiliates aren't suppose to offer "cash back" offers.

Ok, I'm a very newbie at laptops and stuff (Actually, I wanted to buy my first laptop this Dec during the PC Fair but I keep hearing that PC Fair quality is not good and stuff like that?) ... But ok... Sager NP8660, consider that it has no warranty and from what I checked, it starts at $1682 and after upgrading to your specs... (well... mine includes the Vista Premium, tho I want to 32-bit), it went up to $2299 without discount, can we compare it to the dv5 from HP?

Coz was planning to buy that dv5 (can you guys recommend a model, so far I only have here is dv5-1039TX ~RM5999 tho US has the dv5t or sumthin).
Well, actually, mine is not for overclocking(I dun even know what that REALLY means) and hardcore games like Crysis, but I do play the occasional C&C RTS (tho, now, I'm just interested in Red Alert 3 and I like to set graphics to medium at least) but its just for casual gaming- stress relief. Is it worth it, coz it'll b a first laptop and the dv5 sound good enuf already plus it has some warranty that my folks will b better off knowing (the whole safe than sorry) Coz its really my first time for a laptop and its not really purposefully FOR gaming, just casual... More for portability and surfing net and reliablility. I have a desktop for that (Gaming concentrate, tho not really like you guys)...

What is your (all) opinions?
Thx in advance, and if I made an off-topic reply, pls do tell me, coz I'm not really that well versed with forums and stuff (only recently been active)...

PS. if you dun mind, is PC Fair a good place to buy laptops/computers? And will they introduce new things to us? Jus thought I'd take a shot and ask...
