steakhouse serving tom yam soup is a failed place...

Looks like The ship has lost its identity.

if like cheaper 1...restoran kaki,,near cheras oso okir...gei nice

err, this restaurant? Seems like only sells fish head noodles lol.

For steaks ... for me i don't bother with the so-called middle range stuff (e.g. the ship, VS, etc). For the price you pay imo the quality is not worth it. either splurge on prime/angus/etc once in a blue moon, or just whack some cheap rm15 steak at some random place just to delay the steak cravings from my stomach ;x

I m looking for a place to have steak but i dont want places like TGIF, Chillies, tony romas.. i prefer something like san francisco steak hse, Victoria St, or the apartment..

A good steak should be well aged. Contrary to common knowledge, fresh meats are tough, dry and tasteless. Meats (red meats) need to be aged in a chiller before being cut up into pieces for sale.

That's why PRIME offers aged steaks up to 200 days. It means that the meat is hung in the chiller for 200 days before being cut into slices and turned into steaks.

For beginners, i guess you can try the ribeye steak or sirloin. Most cuts are about the same, the most important thing is the marbling (fat) content of the meat. More marbling, more tender.

There are lots of cuts of meat, do read up on it first to know what is what. As with cuts, there's also different types of meats such as Kobe Beef (fed with sake), Matsusaka beef, agnus beef and etc. Each type has different quality and price can range from cheap to astronomically high. For beef, you get what you pay for.

Forgot to add..

most important thing about eating beef is..

IT MUST BE MEDIUM RARE!

or else, don't bother at all. If you want all your meat well cooked, please just order chicken or fish. Steaks which are cooked through are tough, chewy and taste like paper.

Another thing. Meats must be rested before eating. Meaning, it's not ready to eat immediately after cook. They have to be rested for 5-10 minutes to get all the juices back into the meat. If it's not rested, all the juices of the meat will come out when you cut into it. That's why you end up with a plate full of red juices at the end of your meal.

Added on November 25, 2008, 6:41 pmfor wines (if i ever order), i'll just ask the waiter to recommend. If you think that they are incompetent, then just go for the safest choice which is either chardonnay or pinot noir (or any bold flavor wine).

The only thing you should know is that white meat go with white wine, red meat goes with red. Any type of red should do fine unless you have those super sensitive tongue.

I don't think Medium rare is suitable for all people unless the beef are well aged. Medium also have good taste of meat itself.

Who the heck was it who recommended Rendezvous Steak Garden???

Based on that recommendation I went there for dinner. Here is a picture that best sums up what I think of the steak:

X does NOT mark the spot

That's right. It sucked so bad I didn't even bother finishing it, and instead cut it into an "X."

For those of you who like to visit san francisco for steak, please do look carefully at what you are eating as one of my last meal there, i had this experience- i was cutting the steak and suddenly i notice a small oblongish shape thingy and thought mayb it was some kind of herb.. and know what? i realized then that i was looking at a baby cockroach! >< omgosh, i called for the waiter and then the manager and they took back the steak, i din even want a replacement! gross and so unhygienic.
i kinda miss the tiramisu there but oh well..

Just forget those big name steakhouses lo. They're just operating based on their brand. Food totally not up to quality.

In fact, i think this applies to most franchise restaurants like TGI, Chillis, Italiannese and etc. I find the food there getting from bad to worse.

Now i just go to those smaller fine dining restaurants. Price wise about the same but quality is so much better.
