The 1TB Black delivers similar performance to the 1.5TB Barracuda 7200.11, although it loses out to the Seagate by a narrow margin all along the way. It would be unfair to call the Caviar Black noisy, but the 33dBA noise rating under load makes it clearly audible and prone to causing vibration inside your PC. By contrast, the 2TB Green is very quiet indeed and is effectively silent.

Our synthetic benchmark tests show that the 2TB Green is marginally slower than the 1TB Black in average read and write tests, but the burst speed and random access times of the Green put it ahead of the Black. Transferring files within the drive took longer with the 2TB Green than it did with either the 1TB Black or 1.5TB Seagate, which is exactly what we'd expect to see considering the Green's slower rotational speed.

For comparison we had to rely on previously recorded results as we no longer have the drives in question. This is why we don't have complete results for all the other drives. Nonetheless, we've compared to the Seagate Barracuda 7200.11 1TB, the Hitachi 7K1000 1TB, and, to show what a performance drive can do, the Western Digital VelociRaptor 300GB.

Starting with the HDTune results, it's clear that despite the power saving enhancements, this drive still competes in terms of access time with both the Seagate and Hitachi 1TB drives and actually beats them on average transfer rate. We don't have write results for these drives but, in isolation, the Western Digital 2TB Caviar Green seems just as accomplished when writing data as it does when reading.

In PCMark the WD 2TB Caviar Green again beats the Hitachi 1TB drive and in fact, in all our remaining tests, this 2TB, apparently low-power drive, beats the conventional 1TB drives from Seagate and Hitachi.

Well, i think its because their 1TB Black Caviar sales are really slow thats why they have not made a 1.5tb/2tb Black Caviar yet

hmm.. blue WD is only until 750GB.. no wonder blue WD priced same as green 1TB.. (someone mention earlier, blue and green same price)

Humble apology but i am facing some external hard disk problem. I have a 1000GB MyBook External Hard Drive. And all of a sudden it is not being reconized in "My Computer" i checked Device Manager and it s there and working fine it not being seen in "My Computer" have tried it on other computers and still no thing in device manager just not in "My Computer" I am on Windows Vista for your information. i have some many personal data inside this external and i seriously  need your help. i am using IDE drive now. so what is the price of 160 GB WD IDE ? and btw i am using a maxtor hdd. will i have any problem when installing WD ?
