QUOTE(j.sun @ Sep 2 2009, 08:29 PM) I'm new to HDD.. Pardon me for some silly questions.. Is it normal for a 1TB hdd magnetic when i plug sata cable and the power cable? (external but w/o casing).. And, after i plug, my windows can detect the driver but i can't see the driver inside "my computer".. Can anyone tell me what's the problem? Added on September 2, 2009, 8:29 pmThanks in advance =D Have a nice day Have you formatted your hard disk?

QUOTE(coolkwc @ Aug 31 2009, 01:00 PM) Just got myself a Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 1TB SATA (ST31000528AS,32 MB Cache) 3 days ago...surprisingly the temp is quite low, only 41-42C considered no HDD fan + no front intake fan + sandwich between 3 HDD The linear read throughput is quite good, I think miles ahead WD Caviar Black, but just wondering the reliability. Here the picture. [attachmentid=1168351] Hmm, some more it was very quiet during operation, so the noise and temp actually beyond my expectation. Hi, may I know where and how much you got it? Many thanks.

Hi guys. I'm in the market for a new HDD and have been thinking about getting a 1TB drive like the WD Caviar Black or the Seagate Barracuda. Problem is I've been reading reports here and there about these 1TB drives being somewhat unreliable and prone to failing. I had a couple of friends whose 1TB WDs failed within a year, too.
And besides, I'm always a bit paranoid about HDDs and having a 1TB drive crash on me when I've filled it with stuff is a bit disconcerting.
Anyone have any experience/insight? I don't hugely NEED a 1TB drive, and would be willing to buy (and live with) a smaller HDD, like a 640GB one as long as it's reliable.
Thanks =D

How hot is "very hot?"
The extra 2 years warranty they offer for the Black is quite tempting...
