can 5800xm use garmin

hi guys. newbie here. a question. sorry if already been asked before.

in nokia maps or garmin, if i disabled the 3g/gprs connection, can the software still find where am i?

no people can help me on this?

Hmm~ I am using WM map and all the road name is very fine and I love Malfreemap more, the only thing I dont like is there is a little lag in malfree due to the new polygon on the roadmap~

1. First you need to set a destination, then it will calculate route, then it will navigate you to the destination in 3D mode.
2. Using GPS is FOC, however navigating software like Garmin is NOT FREE. You need to pay for the software license (unless u ahem it).
3. Nokia Symbian phone is able to install GPS software like Garmin, Mapking, TomTom into the phone. However SE GPS mobile phone requires 3G/EDGE/GPRS to loads the map if want to use GPS. So in Symbian phone, generally you just install the software and map for once and you are gonna use it for free WHILE SE need to pay for data charges to load the map everytime you use.

for no.3, why nokia dont need to pay for data transfer while SE need to pay it?

Because Nokia (S60 type) phone can install Navigational Software as well as MAPs. While SE cannot utilize those Maps like Malsing and Malfree, therefore they need internet connection to load/stream those MAPs like Google Map~

hello all, i'm newbie in GPS..i would like to ask a few questions regarding to GPS for mobile...
Question :

1. How to get the GPS can direct me to destination with virtual 3D road?
2. Any charges for using real time GPS? i heard my friend said he just need to update map and then its free to use real time GPS.
3. What is the difference between Nokia and SE GPS mobile phone?

2. none of the GPS are real-time.

@chicaman - SE can use gmxt ler. those that run UIQ boleh ler. there are a few Se's that run winmo like xperia also which u can install gmxt ler. the rest like g900 have to revert using trekbuddy.

@lineage - your questions need to be clearer and more precise. assuming for Q3 that what you're asking if both mobile phones use THEIR ORIGNAL gps software as in nokia with smart2go and SE with their dumbsh*tz useless software. nokia's smart2go are RM 40 per month to use for navigation and on top of that u pay another RM XXXXXX for data charges. same as SE's. cept SE comes with googlepmaps in which u download segments of it and pay a bomb for the monthly usage as well. GMXT lain cerita. itu 3rd party software, not embeded in original units.

sorry mistake, g900 no gps, i meant c905. the stupidest SE fon with a gps built in. no choice but to run trekbuddy.

Normal SE phoen that has GPS is kinda useless.

Those SE UIQ might be able to install (not tested by me) and use Bluetooth GPSr.

in you opinion which is better Malsing and Malfreemap ? because if im not mistaken both are free now..

what is the main differences and which is better? im using n95 8gb

Garmin only look at the file gmapsupp.img
You can put in many maps, but the other maps have to be in a different name.
Eg: gmapsuppmsm.img or gmapsuppmfm.img

meaning that if i want to use msm i need to rename msm map to gmapsupp.img?

and then when want to to use mfm map, rename it to gmapsupp.img?

i'm using garmin mobile 10x, and pair with SE p1i for GPS navigation.

garmin 10x is a standalone bluetooth GPS receiver, rite? then i'll need to recharge the GPS battery...but then inside the package of garmin 10x, they only provide 1 unit of in-car 12v charger(which we plug it into the ciggratte hole.

what if i want to charge the 10x at home, where can i buy the charger? that 1 can plug into our house power cord..

Haha in your earlier post, you mentioned you want to change the unit at home.
Now I know you want to charge the unit at home.
Why don't you just go and buy an adapter that has an output of 12V dc and xAmp (this depends on your garmin 10x is rated how many Amps).

Need to switch. Can only use either one map.
