it it possible to

1 - change the voice nav to different voices in a standalone garmin say nuvi 205W's ? are there free voice files ? i know where to get tomtom's voices but not garmins. (btw i'm talking bout da freebies of teh intehnets not the pay punya)

2 - change the voice nav to different voices in GMXT softwares. ada free punya ka and got step by step guides or not ?

all i know is the voices that they provided off my-garmin really is sad case. not sexy japanese girl type voice , no knight rider punya. i found 3rd party but haf to pay. can get tom cruise voice and yoda voices.

thanks in advance.

Garmin is good & there are lotsa pros & cons between using standalone & the all-in one Nokia/PDA GPSr

It's all depending on you..Stand-alone- big screen quick acquisition of signals BUT no track recording function except certain model (U need to check wth the seller which model having tracking capability

Nokia/PDA all in one - as said..all0in one easier to carry ...whatever u want from the gadgets..u name it all there... biggrin.gif ..BUT this all-in one having small screen (No good for older ppl), slow in acquiring satelite & etc

It's up to u..pls read more & do research at the link in my siggy (Malsingmaps)

external GPS is always better than nokia internal GPS module

why ah ?

QUOTE(idoblu @ Nov 23 2008, 03:22 PM)
i just installed garminxt on my N79. now i feel that my phone like slow down a bit and having some weird problems like soft resetting by itself. but i thought garminxt is installed in the memory card so shouldnt be garminxt right? or could it be?
*
N79 ? sure boh. i baru let stimix try my fon few days ago. he's quite impressed what. where got slowdown ? i'm using it to track even.
GMXT works fine. it takes under 1 minute to get sat reception anyway.

Which version u install?

Make sure u install everything in memory card.

Try removing the memory card and see if everything is working nicely or not, have u installed any other software lately?

Garmin shouldn't give any problem to symbian phone because there isnt any processes that runs in background except it do have some minor bug in N82 last time for # key in messaging for unable to highlight. But it is solved in later version already.

N79 is still a new phone so it might not be stable at the moment, check for the newer firmware from time to time.
*
N79 confirm stable la. i ran 3 applications simultaneously.

1 - FM transmitter
2 - Music Player
3 - GMXT.

while transmitting music to the car stereo, u are also tying up GMXT voices to it. so instead of hearing "at the roundabout take the 3rd exit" from your fon, u get to hear it on your cars audio system instead.

however running the 4th app, will most likely make your fon die, or hang. not enough processing power liao. so maximum is 3. no more.

because the internal chip is weak .

For a external GPS it takes 3-5 sec to lock
For internal suka suka 30 sec suka suak 10 mins still red bar there
*
but bluetooth pairing also takes around 30 secs what no meh, scan - pair - enter code - wait - paired success.

1st time u do have to scan and select device ma no meh ?

and i doubt u can pair more than 1 device. its either ur headset or your external garmin.

so assuming u're running garmin bluetooth, u can conserve your headset battery by switching it off no ?

yea like u said 1st time so what is the problem? Its only 1 time thing.

Yea either 1 is active at one time. If there is a call coming thru and i am using the garmin i will use loudspeaker.

But if u compare external GPS can lock fast and in any big structure places it still gets full bar.
*
ok

QUOTE(idoblu @ Nov 23 2008, 06:25 PM)
yes its installed in the memory card. i think maybe not garminxt causing the problem. i got fring installed too.
*
i oso got fring and opera mini and sum other sharewares which i havent activated yet.
plus i found sum nice ngage games in which each costs 30-50 bux to activate for life . activated the poker game already. did u open too many apps at one go ?

Added on November 23, 2008, 9:22 pmbtw i can only suspect that the chipset is a GSC3LT. i have no way of concluding which sirfstarIII chip it is. only supsect.
only 1 way to find out which is to dissect the fon. but i aint doing that. too new. wait 1 year warranty habis then i dissect unless someone else dissects first.

anyhow will continue diggin thru my vast history but rest assured 79 & 85 are similar in many ways.
i remember seeing a vid of the dissection of the n79 more than few weeks back but i cant even find that vid now.

@stimix - i installed gmxt10 for winmo on my friends palm pro treo dunno what what else model number.

works fantastic. his signal lock even faster than mine. under 5 secs.
accuracy - off the grid. wayyyyyy off the grid.

funny thing is, when u install gmxt onto a winmo pda, i didnt know u can use it as a gmpc. remember the selection of use inbuilt or bluetooth connection in the system settings ? well i na pda u have additional 1 which is split into another 4. com4 com6 irda port and 1 other which i forgot. meaning i cna use the pda as a receiver only while hooked onto the pc and track direct using mapsos ?

hello all, i'm newbie in GPS..i would like to ask a few questions regarding to GPS for mobile...
Question :

1. How to get the GPS can direct me to destination with virtual 3D road?
2. Any charges for using real time GPS? i heard my friend said he just need to update map and then its free to use real time GPS.
3. What is the difference between Nokia and SE GPS mobile phone?

1. simulation or mapsource.
2. none of the GPS are real-time.
3. chipset and platform.

@chicaman - SE can use gmxt ler. those that run UIQ boleh ler. there are a few Se's that run winmo like xperia also which u can install gmxt ler. the rest like g900 have to revert using trekbuddy.

@lineage - your questions need to be clearer and more precise. assuming for Q3 that what you're asking if both mobile phones use THEIR ORIGNAL gps software as in nokia with smart2go and SE with their dumbsh*tz useless software. nokia's smart2go are RM 40 per month to use for navigation and on top of that u pay another RM XXXXXX for data charges. same as SE's. cept SE comes with googlepmaps in which u download segments of it and pay a bomb for the monthly usage as well. GMXT lain cerita. itu 3rd party software, not embeded in original units.

Garmin only look at the file gmapsupp.img
You can put in many maps, but the other maps have to be in a different name.
Eg: gmapsuppmsm.img or gmapsuppmfm.img
*
your file names wont work.

its gmapsupp.img
gmapsup1.img
errr gmapbmap
ask stimix go dig up that flowchart for u. i lazy to find.

and u can combine both maps. u cna combine 10 maps even. just some complications will arise only.
