Hi GPS gurus,

I never had a GPS function PDA/HP before but am thinking of buying one in a few days.

As I will be doing some long range offshore work, I doubt i can use my service providers AGPS function being in the middle of no where in the ocean..

Still i'd like to simply mark some the Longitude and lattitude positions in the open oceans at the places Im stopping.

So just wanna ask your opinions if the current SE phones are recommended with regards to GPS function over Nokia model. The model I had in mind to buy is the SE Vivaz.

If not,kindly recommend me a good Nokia model.

How to I turn off Vivaz AGPS function and rely on the free to use GPS only?

I read the earlier phones GPS can take up to minutes to get a fix, I hope the newer model in the market performance may be improved.

out in the open sea, i doubt you'll have difficulty getting a GPS signal lock, unless weather becomes a factor, coz in the city where there are skyscrapers around it still get pretty good signal locks without A-GPS on my E72.

Perhaps you can try have a look at Mapcenter for free map around the world

since garmin xt is stop what new software from garmin should I install on my n97 mini>???

GMXT has stopped? how come i didnt heard of it?

Changes in v5.00.60:
- To improve the horizontal to vertical NOKIA 5800 screen problem
- NOKIA 5800 to improve the horizontal screen open "turn preview" issue
- To improve the NOKIA 5800 in the evening when the text mode

but the 1 only will work if I have a garmin blurtooth gps...how bout if I want to buy it???

i using iriver NV gps...how to install map inside as the gps navigator is not garmin..........

You have to contact iriver NV gps for maps updates. both the free mapping communities in malaysia (malfreemaps & malsingmaps) only support limited GPS navigators such as Garmin, papago & mapking

is it possible to show the road name that i am currently driving on in garmin like what ovi map does.

Garmin only show the current road name if you are off-navigation mode. But once you are on navigation mode, the top display will only show direction such as turn left/right, U-turn & etc to the direction of the road...I dun really check which road when on navigation mode bcos the more important is the direction.

Anyway if you set the map feature to display road name (Street Label) as "Large" you can actually see the surrounding road name & the road you are on displayed. Also if Yopu are using malfreemaps, all the logos of POIs such as McD, Banks & etc will also be prominently displayed & therefore you need not search for eg wanna look for nearest Esso for nxt 1Km...Well just check the surrounding area whether having any Essso big logo & just go..
