i have a question here -
if i connect my PS3 to this monitor (DELL S2409W) using HDMI cable, the HDMI cable will only transmit the image to the monitor, but not the sound right? so how should i connect the sound (say if i buy a set of speakers)
thinking of buying this monitor.. its about RM1100 now at dell website.

Nope!! It has sound. Just connect the HDMI cable and plug your speaker on the audio out connector located at the back. You may need a good set of speaker though.. mine is altech lansing: It's really nice playing at full volume..

QUOTE(bill3 @ Oct 8 2008, 09:38 AM) Does yours have the "fade-in" problem with HDMI audio? "fade in" as in every time the monitor is powered up or a game is loaded there is no sound present and after a few seconds the sound becomes audible...?? yeah I do have that kind of problem.. Its really not a big issue for me though since the fade in happen during the intro or loading screen but once you get to the main menu the sound started to "sync"... Have you ask the costumer support on this coz I'm planning to do???

QUOTE(bill3 @ Oct 8 2008, 01:49 PM) I've not asked customer support yet ... I'll ask them later..I need to check my service tag number first.. It may be HDMI handshaking issue between the console and the monitor which we can't do anything.. Try using your AV cable for sound instead, if you have the right connector..

It's probably not a HDMI handshaking issue as the problem happens to both PS3 and XBox360 which does not occur with LCD TVs. The audio fade-in may happen in any part of a game or movie which has audio silence for more than 3 seconds. You can test this by playing a music file and pause for more than 3 seconds before resuming.

All PS3 games are in 16:9 aspect ratio natively(eventhough many games have awkward native res). So no stretching in this case as the monitor is also 16:9 aspect ratio. Games that are locked in 720p(and cannot be "forced" into 1080p) will be automatically upscaled by the monitor itself. From what I've seen, the upscaler of the S2409W is rather good.

..^what do u mean?.if we set the xbox/ps3 setting display to 720p, does the monitor upscale the pic to 1080p?.. i guess not cus from what i read so far specifically for xbox 360, if we use hdmi cable, we can set the resolution and also the definition (720p/1080i/1080p,etc).. plz clarity. thanks

What SSJBen meant was the image won't be stretch to change the ratio of the display, it will still come out with the native ratio of 16:9. What you are confused with are stretching and scaling. A non 1080i/p source will be scaled to 1080p on that monitor without stretching the image, retaining a 16:9 aspect ratio, while most other 24 inchers have 16:10 ratio, and image will be stretched to get full screen (looks taller).

QUOTE(Noysan @ Oct 8 2008, 05:04 PM) i have the same thing going on with the sound on my system. I'm guessing it's some loudness protection feature thingy that's meant for headphone users. But it's just a wild guess. Now I just connect audio via the AV unit of the ps3 straight to my 2.1 speakers. no problem there. figure8: you don't have to worry about 1:1 pixel mapping with any 16:9 monitor like the s2409w and the new benq HD monitors, coz it's memang 1:1 pixel mapped for all 16:9 monitors. it's only the normal computer lcd monitors, which are usually has a aspect ratio of 16:10, that you have to worry if they have 1:1 pixel mapping. coz some of them don't. hope this helps This post has been edited by jackhammer84: Oct 9 2008, 05:14 PM
