is that GBP100K for 3 years expenses (full course) or 1 year?
We need to have GBP100k before departure?

GBP100K  is equal to RM500K!
have you really???!!

he assume that GBP100k is for the entire course, not for 1 year...but the tuition fees and living cost various from the place you stay and the course you enrolled.

to save $$, most of the people either:
1) Do their undergraduate in Malaysia, then take a MSc in UK
2) Do a twinning program
3) Do those (3+0) or (4+0) courses

if it's stated:

duration: 3 years
tuition fees: 8,750 pounds
course start: sept 09

that tuition fees quoted for per year or for whole course?
coz if in malaysia uni website, they quoted a tuition fee for whole course.
so i got confused with uk uni website.

hi,

I'm thinking of doing a postgrad engineering in UK. In general, which universities are good for engineering. (Not specific eng major...just in general).

I would say University of Nottingham engineering course is quite popular, but the tuition fee is killing ppl. but you can always check over the website timeonlines to check out all university ranking for engineering course.

Hi there,...

I have decided to pursue MSc in UK this sept 2009. Currently, im choosing university for my master.

I have short listed and as shown below

MSc Electronic Engineering - University of Sheffield - From what I heard, Sheffield is quite good in e n e field and im looking for broader MSc course thus, this meets the requirement im looking for.

MSc Electronic and Computer Engineering with Industrial Studies - University of Birmingham - This interests me as it makes industrial training to be included in the module and again the master is quite broad and not as specified as others.

MSc Electronic and Electrical Engineering - University of Leeds - I dont know much about this city , but it seems it have good reputation in e ne . Any information would be appreciated

MSc Signal processing and communication - University of Edinburgh - good reputation but ... the course seems to be abit focus. However I do see any of positive comment about the university. Thus Im still considering it.

MSc Signal processing - University of Bristol - Dont know about this university too.

Among these universities which are the best for me ?

I would like to hear comments about pursuing master in e n e field these universities

or If you guys could provide other university which you think is good in e ne too. Please do mention it and advise.

Note that Im international student going to UK to study . Thus im totally unaware of the situation in UK.

Also I would like to know will i able to apply for the Post Study work (PSW) scheme that replaces the INternational graduate scheme upon graduation ?

Lastly, Im looking for good quality education as in the university should have good and helpful lecturers .... >.<

Another thing to note that is I come from University of nottingham malaysia campus ... but im not really into taking postgraduate in nottingham uk although I could obtain automatic scholarship for being graduate from malaysia campus ... Hmm mainly because their master uses undergraduate modules for MSc. If I were to go there, basically I have to take those subjects which I didnt take during my undergraduate. Any comment on this ? Izzit all uk universities are the same where taught master course will use undergraduate modules ?

yes, PSW is replacing IGS, which you are allow to work in UK without any working permit. it is a 2 years visa. I think most of university is eligible for visa, you need to both check it. I suppose home office do has a link to check the university is under this scheme. if you plan to work in UK, i think the best is to take the course which has the industrial training, as nowadays company in UK hiring graduates prefer more working experience. the more working experience you have, the higher chance you will offer by the company. But of course, you choosing course and university, you must hv interest on it.

well, all university do have good and bad lectures. you can't run away from bad lecturer. it's depends on you, there's no spoon-feeding in postgraduate. Sometimes you need to figure out and try all solution when you have problem before go to the lecturer...

what i know is, usually taught master course will use the same undergraduate modules. but the way you learn is more mature and independent, which is probably cover more topic compare with undergraduate student and the way lecturer teach is different. i would say the material is the same, but the assignment and expectation from lecturer is more for postgraduate.

Informative reply .. appreaciate that ...

Im seriously considering Birmingham university as I do have interest in the course and the industrial training ... Are they good in E n E field ? ... Based on the ranking they are in top 10 university in UK for E n E field .. but i dont rely on just that .... I prefer to get feedback from student as they speak the "truth" lol ...

Any information regarding about the living cost there ? izzit high ? ... I do know that Birmingham is one of the biggest city in UK ... Im wondering does it proportional with the living cost too ? lol ...

However in nottingham malaysia campus, the assessment for postgraduate and undergradaute are the same ..I know alot of postgraduate students who are in the same class as I am ..

Furthremore any good scholarship to recommend me be it local or international scholarship? ...

Added on February 7, 2009, 9:12 pmWhy study in UK seems to be quite inactive nowadays lol >.< no 1 interested to study in UK anymore ?

Guys, I recently bought an item from Amazon UK, with around 6 quids VATrefundable. How can I claim this VAT, where can I get the form or whatever?

I contacted Amazon but: 'Unfortunately, as we are purely an internet-based mail-order company, we are legally ineligible to operate such a scheme'

Help?

for visa applications, the immigrations require proof that the student could pay the fees and support himself without the need to work. u can do this by showing a letter of sponsorship, loan, or an account full of money. so it is true, but only if u're self sponsored.
*
jus wanna ask...i wan to be self-sponsor cos shu allows self sponsored student to split the payment in 2
(if my memory serve me right when reading their webpage)
bt obviously i dun hav tat much amout...so i guess i need to borrow de funds from sum1 (ma parents) and transfer it to my accout for their verification purpose?

secondly...actually i ady had a BSc...bt lets say i wanna redo my degree in uk
will i hav to pay higher fees?...cos i read sumwhere once u had a certification, u arent able to do de program unless u pay a higher fees
does it applys to international student?
if so i might jus do my masters onli

Collect all your receipts and bring it to the UK airport. Go the the customer service/tax booth (I cant remember) after check in and fill up the forms, then u'll get the VAT refund. U could contact the airport for further information.

u dont have to transfer. just get ur parents bank statements and attach it to urs. all they care is the total amount is enough, be it from 1 account, or from 5 of ur relatives. however, they would want a written declaration that the money will be awarded to u. though i dont know if they need it to be contractual or not (meaning if u'd have to certify the declaration at a legal solicitor).

i have not heard a blanket statement on this one, but i'm aware of certain universities offering THEIR undergraduates cheaper fees if they continue to do their postgraduates at the same university. also, i know of certain universities like oxford brookes offering cheaper fees if u've had a relative studying there before (parents, siblings etc).

other than that, no.
