Added on September 15, 2008, 8:23 amOne question on mobile phone calls in UK.

Do BOTH caller and receiver has to pay for the phone calls? Or just the caller as in Malaysia?

You are saying...if the parent are Malaysia HSBC Premier account holder and you yourself aren't, there are still benefit?
Yes

And what sort of UK HSBC are you talking about? Basic Account, Passport Account or Student Account? Or are you say, they open a UK Premier Account for you with no monthly fees?
Premier Account with no monthly fees. As long as ure parents maintain a steady premier account back in Malaysia.

I called up HSBC premier center. They told me, for the son to have a Premier Account in UK, his name MUST be in Malaysia's Premier account.

How come? Who did you talk to saying otherwise? Thanks.

I keeps telling people to book here. They automatically give you 30 kg on all flights for student. The only condition is you buy an international student card from them for RM20.

The British are very reasonable people. If you have a genuine emergency, go send a email to the British High Comm. Tell them your situation. Show them your air ticket etc.

Friends has been there. Done that. Fly off on time. Unless there are problems with your documentations.

Another did the same in the evening and got it mid afternoon the next day.

May be the way you wrote or you send to the wrong department?

Good to know they are reliable. But how's the product quality? Care to elaborate a bit more about them?

New in town. No transport. Know no one. Better get the AEP and be done with. And will be there BEFORE you landed. Who knows, those pans could be a life saver for cooking maggie mee the 1st night icon_question.gif

And neither fancy sleeping without blanket the 1st night either.

Q2) Can I apply for the HSBC Online Bonus Saver account when I am a passport account holder? Or I need to wait until my contract end a year later first?
*
There is a monthly charge for Passport account. But if your parent are M'sia HSBC Premier account holder, you can open a UK Premier for free. Subjected to condition. Otherwise is GBP25 per month.

Furthermore, the UK Premier can be opened BEFORE you landed in UK.

Royal Bank of Scotland will give you normal student account (the same ones as offered to local students + freebies) for free. But was told you need GBP5000 to open but need not maintain that amount afterward.

Barclays and RHB has an agreement. You can open a free Barclay account while still in Malaysia through RHB but must maintain a certain GBP amount at all time.

With some bank, you can set up a link between the various accounts to automatically transfer money from one to the other.

So how do you people find UK's HSBC Passport or Premier account services and facilities?

Sorry I am not getting this.

It says to use your normal landline phone to call 0911-0331 331 to top up. But how do you pay or buy credit?

My friend advise otherwise.

TT can cost from RM20 to RM50 per transfer. Take a couple of days.

Getting a bank draft cost RM5. Send by Registered post take 1 week (no need to send by expensive courier that only shorten it by 2 or so days). Another 1 or 2 days to clear.

If you have HSBC Premier account, you may be able to do it for free and immediate without any delays.

AFAIK, normal TT takes about 2 days to reach final destination. It's not immediate as in 1 or 2 hours.

If both the account in UK and Malaysia are in your name, then it may not be TT but something else. With HSBC Premier and done online, it's immediate and free.

i use tiger balm, apply it and wear the normal cotton socks..

why tiger balm? There doesn't seem to be any logic in that and in fact, the reverse may be true. Tiger balm contains menthol and evaporates off easily by drawing heat (latent) away from your body.
