if the rules haven't change yet, you can work part-time job, as long the working hours is not more than 20 hours per week (during term-time). but when you have submit your dissertation for your MSc and waiting for result, you can work (if you plan to apply PSW visa) while your student visa still valid (this is only when you got ur result/finish project & exam).

hey, I've question to ask.

I'm Law Student.

How do you guys think of West of England, Bristol?

Hw's Liverpool City? Any comment?

I'm aiming University of Liverpool, but my insurance might be UWE.
This is because Liverpool requires average 60% whilst UWE pass all. So I'm afraid to put other university. I got condition offer of 60% from Cardiff and 50% from Leeds.

Afraid cant achieve 60%. Anyway, I'm HELP University Student.

let's say I put Liverpool and Leeds, and I cant meet both the conditional offers, can I apply again by end of June when my result is released?

Anyone would give brief intro on Liverpool City and bristol? hw about cardiff and leeds?

Another question, is foreigner can enter more easily than UK citizen? One of the post said that entering Medicine in Leeds also have person with ABC despite UK person struggling to get in even with AAB. Is it true?

Is that University of Cardiff? If that is the one, then I would say that is the best. I know HELP has linked with Uni of Manchester, why dont you choose that one? UWE is different from Uni of Bristol. Uni of Bristol is top Law school in UK. Liverpool is a city in north west, a port city. A small china town, and people there has very very strong sculser accent. But generally is a friendly city. Strong wind, lower living cost compare to Bristol, and it is very closed to Manchester.

Bristol is a hill town, slightly smaller than Liverpool but closer to London, calm and peace city. Higher living cost as it is south west of england,

I think must be because of higher tuition fee they can charge to international student.

I think Liverpool but then again it's the football club I'm talking about.

QS Times Ranking:-

Cardiff = 99
Liverpool = 101

Hence Cardiff a little better but its quite much the same. So look the environment you are better with.

Download this below for the full list. But its 2007.

It depends on what aspect in terms of good you are looking for:
for lower living cost - I guess Cardiff
for the quality of life - I guess Cardiff too
cant compare like-a-like, unless you really be there. But both are good i can say.

Can you not try other university on your own rather than via HELP? Personally I think if you pass your HELP, you could go to many good law schools, and not limit to these few. I think Southampton, Uni of Chester, Uni of Keele, Uni of Portsmouth, Uni of Teesside are all good with student services like they have link with local enterprice which you can gain work experience from. If your result is good, can try top-end universities (not sure with the fee though, it might be alot - eg: University of Manchester, London School of Economics)

if other unis, we dn enjoy reduction of 1k pound fee biggrin.gif

Anyway,

wad do you mean by saying quality of life at Cardiff is better?

I'm now working hard to achieve the desire result of 60% since HELP marking scheme is stricter than other universities around. Our class hardly score more than 10/20 in our current tests (we have tests every week now until final exam). Still trying to improve.

i check the rankings too. Cardiff is slightly lower than Liverpool for Law. As the rest I listed, are around 50-60.

I wonder if I can apply after 30th of June? Is it too late? Cz only then my result is released and in the event I cant get into my desired universities, will it be late to apply for other unis?

dont go UWE. it is a not so reputable uni. like said, do not mix up uni of bristol with bristol west of england (UWE).

go for cardiff or leed instead for insurance if liverpool is your main choice.

not really. they usually set an amount for international student per year. say 20 out of 100 places is for international student, and you have to fight for a place with other applicants all over the world. and the rest 80 places are fought over by applicants all over the uk, that is why three a-level is usually not sufficient to enter Medicine course in uk.

bristol is 7th largest city in UK, meanwhile liverpool is the 6th. and bristol is not a calm and peace city. liverpool is more peaceful compare to bristol. bristol can be really rough. high living cost, crap public transport too. tongue.gif

i have to agree that cardiff has good living standard. cheap living cost compare to many other cities. not a really huge city, but yet it is still a city, a capital city of wales somemore. good public transport network, peaceful place to live as well. and cardiff uni law is among the top law school in uk.

I know UWE is different from Bristol. Somehow I just included UWE from the limited range of choice. Shd hv put Northumbria right? Sigh!

So nw since I need a proper insurance, I've no idea which to put.

Leeds requirement is 50% for me but my gf requires 55%. So am not sure if she can make it to Leeds if turn out I can. But now am aiming Liverpool, exam in less than two months and starting to work for it.

Heard Cardiff exam system is kind of traditional in the sense that once fail, you need to repeat the whole subject instead of re-sit right?

Cant you choose University of Manchester? I remember last time I had a course mate joint final year which he transferred from HELP too. But it was several years ago...

Well, the 1000pounds discount.. it is not much.. I dont think you should just limit yourself to the 1000pounds. There are many better law schools then UWE, and Northumbria...

one thing that anyone would advise u is that never let ur GF or BF becomes a factor in deciding where u wanna go.

living between cities is not a big deal. i lived in sheffield while my fiancee in leicester, and we commuted almost every week for a year to see each other. it's really not a big deal. although the distance between cities might be great, but the transportation is very efficient. it shouldnt bother u at all, living a city (or a couple of cities) apart.

insurance is just as important. when the first choice is rejected, you are left with insurance. do not put some uni that you think you wouldnt want to go just for insurance. you might as well bet for a better school, rather than simply go to a school that will accept you. spending even just one year in UK cost a lot of money, so do do it wisely from a good uni.

nope. you just have to resit the module/paper that you have failed. if you failed the resit, then only you have to resit the module for another yea. once you failed the first sit, even if you score 98% for your resit, your final result is going to be 40% only.

I would like to know what are the recommended universities for electronic or control system field for postgraduate studies ?

Is warwick good for electronic field ? .. It would seem to me that their MSc courses are not listedi nthe IET accreditation list.

Although UCL KCL Imperial college are top universities in the owrld.. but imperial is too expensive for me and UCL and KCL seems to be renowned for other field which is not engnieering.

OxBridge are not my choice too as both of them are research based.

Filtering other universities my current choices are as below

Manchester - Advanced control and system engnieering
Southampton - System on chip
Bristol - Advanced microelectronic and system engineeirng
Sheffield - electronic engineering
Birmingham - electorinc and computer engineering with industrial studies

Are there other universities which are renowned for electonic / control system field in UK ? please advise.

Regarding about visa application, can i show fixed deposit account for application ?

I heard that student requires to show account which has enough money say, RM 200k plus with frequent money flow going in and out of the account. Is that true ?

I heard warwick is famous for management, yes you can show fixed deposit as part of your financial support.

from what i know the minimum amount required is your total fee + 7200GBP/5400GBP(1 year) for living expenses depending on where your U is located.

personally, i graduated from university of Manchester. I love the city, and love the people there. But I have to say their student support in terms finding work for students, extra lectures on specific issues, and etc are basically none... My friend - an education counsellor - said southampton is the best in terms of students support - but I have no idea. I was in Manchster for my LL.B.

I guess the news a few days ago mentioned that you need to demonstrate you have enough of money for your tuition fee + 5400pounds for living cost. not RM200000. but sustainability of income is one thing you need to show.
