success unlock and jailbreak my 2g with redsnow 0.7.1.

1st attempt was fail due to redsnow 0.7.1 stop responding in an instant when the screen prompt "downloading jailbreak data".

i then re-enter the iphone to DFU mode and try again with successful result

Hi got some question here the redsnow is only use to JB and not unlock right?
If i'm using a iphone 3G with software unlock not official unlock after i update to 3.0 there is no way to unlock right? got to wait for ultra snow to relaase?

lol, nvm bout that and congrats with the iphone unlock, so its really works then.? i thought we will need to wait for the ultrasn0w for the 3G, anyway i will trying to read and view the process then,( need to unlock my friends brother iphone 3G, from last march he still using the rebel sim for his iphone).. .

3.0 user reporting in.

As for now, i manage to unlock the phone. Previously it just show the "Emergency Call Only". but for the activation purposes, i have to wait for the owner's himself. He will activate this phone at 9.30pm at my place later on. (cant activate using my iTunes coz he wants to sync with his laptop's mp3, mails, video etc etc )

Will update either the 3G can be used or not.

em, i think its not called unlock but its called activate bypass the activation process(where it shows only emergency call etc)., im not sure because in redsn0w only jailbreak iphone 3G and we will need to wait dev team release the Ultrasn0w for the for phone to use with sim card.( not sure because i read and that what i was assume)

basically there is 3 thing in iphone thingy.

1) activate-is where you enable the phone and use the app inside it( including the calling function if the phone is official unlock)
2) jailbreak- is where the phone will be "software mod"-a look a like and we can get into its root partition and cydia/icy where istalled and we can install third party app that is not in app store.
3) unlock- is where you make the iphone works with any sim card and can make call, and as for iphone 3G firmware 2.2 or 2.2.1 last time using yellowsn0w with baseband 2.28.00 and now there will be an Ultrasn0w for firmware 3.0 baseband 4.26.08 which is not release yet( and will be release soon) so basically we cant make any call with the iphone 3G "locked" set because the ultrasn0w still not release yet.


anyway try to insert your sim card then see if there is any signal from the iphone, try to make some call using that iphone..if ok then i may be wrong and still not read and understanding it 100%..

p/s: anyway if my statement wrong, please anyone correct me..


- oh ya you can activate it your self because activation only do activation, he can snyc with his laptop later when he meet you.

On Wifi there is a problem. On Celcom 3G it runs. I SMSed a few guys about it and they are experiencing the same problems as I am now. Probably because of Streamyx's current maintainance work.

guys.. i wan to upgrade.. to 3.0.. ready the files yesterday.. then, just now, downloaded redsow.. wen i brows for ipsw.. in the FOLDER i hv dled earlier, iPhone1,1_3.0_7A341_Restore.ipsw, there is no ipsw file.. just a bunch of something that i dont think i should mess with..

am i missing something here? currently downloading new firmware from iclarified.. seem too slow la..

Ok, done now. What i can conclude, you're 100% correct! all the facts that stated above are right! sorry ya, sy budak baru belajar, kalau salah tlg ajarkan

The phone successfully jailbreak-ed, but still locked (no celcom carrier signal at the above panel).
So have to wait for the ultrasnow to unlock it.

So for others that have locked iPhone. Do take Takano's note as above ya. Really helpfull. Summary as below (if you're using locked iphone and wish to upgrade to OS 3.0):

1. Download the 3.0 OS to your laptop/PC
2. Shift + Restore (using iTunes 8.2) -> Choose the 3.0 OS.
3. Once done, redsn0w your iPhone to bypass the activation and install cydia to your iPhone.
4. download ultrasn0w (not released yet) using Cydia.
5. Ultrasn0w your iPhone to unlock it to all carrier(maxis, digi, celcom etc)
