your iphone is lock again after the update. you have 2 option which are
1. wait for the dev team release the pwnage tools & quickpwn
2. restore back to firmware 2.2.1 or older by following guide posted on the pinned thread

and yes, your can downgrade just by using shift + restore to a recent firmware which is 2.2.1. make sure your iphone is in DFU state. not sure for older firmware though.

here is a short guide downgrading/restoring your 2g iphone to firmware 2.2.1
things you need.
iphone 2g firmware 2.2.1 available here
itunes 8.1 (optional)
quickpwn (since you use windows) available here
bootloader 3.9 and 4.6 (BL-3.9.bin and BL-4.6.bin)

step 1.
since your phone is stated lock, put your iphone in DFU mode. plug your phone on the usb cable
hole power/sleep and home button for 10 second. then release the power button (still holding the home button) until itunes detect your iphone in recovery state.

step 2
shift + restore and direct it to the 2.2.1 firmware and itunes will start restoring your phone (ignore some error syntax stated with 1xxx).

step 3
fire up quickpwn and run as instruction stated. use the bootloader given above. if you successfully follow this guide, you iphone should be up and running on stated firmware.

good luck

success unlock and jailbreak my 2g with redsnow 0.7.1.

1st attempt was fail due to redsnow 0.7.1 stop responding in an instant when the screen prompt "downloading jailbreak data".

i then re-enter the iphone to DFU mode and try again with successful result

thanks and cheers
