for those who is currently using iphone 2g wanted a head start with firmware 3.0, you can try this guide for maintaining the activate status on 3.0

here goes

http://www.ihackintosh.com/2009/06/unlock-...-final-version/

but not recommended for those who don't really know what what his/her doing. i succeed following this guide just a second ago and im on 3.0 now.

cheers

dont think u can downgrade now... plse let us know if 3.0 can be downgraded

and yes, your can downgrade just by using shift + restore to a recent firmware which is 2.2.1. make sure your iphone is in DFU state. not sure for older firmware though.

here is a short guide downgrading/restoring your 2g iphone to firmware 2.2.1
things you need.
iphone 2g firmware 2.2.1 available here
itunes 8.1 (optional)
quickpwn (since you use windows) available here
bootloader 3.9 and 4.6 (BL-3.9.bin and BL-4.6.bin)

step 1.
since your phone is stated lock, put your iphone in DFU mode. plug your phone on the usb cable
hole power/sleep and home button for 10 second. then release the power button (still holding the home button) until itunes detect your iphone in recovery state.

step 2
shift + restore and direct it to the 2.2.1 firmware and itunes will start restoring your phone (ignore some error syntax stated with 1xxx).

step 3
fire up quickpwn and run as instruction stated. use the bootloader given above. if you successfully follow this guide, you iphone should be up and running on stated firmware.

good luck

Maybe just wait a few days for iPhone Dev Team's release? It will be able to unlock any iPhone and any OS version.

iphone 2G previously on firmware 2.2.1

accidentally upgraded to firmware 3.0
(me & my itchy hands, was told by a phone vendor that apple no longer cares about 2G so firmware upgrading is ok)

phone currently showing "slide for emergency"

however
.. to my surprise i can still make/receive calls .. receiving SMS poses no problem too! can't send SMS though as i can't get into springboard

i have been trying (very hard) to downgrade/upgrade my firmware but i was always shown error 20 halfway thru the process!!

Systems Used - PC on itunes 8.2 & Laptop on itunes 8.1.1

Tried the usual drill, enter DFU mode (many many times) press shift & restore ..
tried firmware 2.2.1 & 2.0.2 .. same error .. error 20!! at one time i can't even get to "slide for emergency" (phone shows the connect to itunes screen) but after upgrading to 3.0 no problem sad.gif

I guess i will have to be patient and wait for DEV team to come up with quickpwn 3.0 sad.gif (fingers crossed)

anyone .. any solution??

any reply is greatly appreciated

thanking you in advance

lorr, my you ichy hand update it without checking it first with the dev team.

anyway you should not open new thread, but posting to pawnaage tools etc in pinned thread.

anyway there a lot of solution to downgrade you iphone 2G( ask mr google instead) and you must try even harder to downgrade it. your iphone will be ok. seriously.
try this, hope it helps.

For iPhone 2G, I have read from one of the website saying that in order to have a succesfull upgrade to 3.0, we should downgrade it to 2.0.2 before upgrade to 3.0 cause upgrading directly from 2.2.1 to 3.0 might cause some problem.
