to jb and unlock the phone..but i dont think its unlocked.. for some reason it always say network lost.. so i would like to know is the 2g unlockable for version 2.2.1? i read somewhere it says apple dont upgrade the baseband for iphone 2g already..i check the baseband its not sth like 2.28.00..but its 04.05.04_G ..so is it unlockable?

i have a problem here.i using 3g 16gb..
after upgraded to firmware 2.2.1 there is no signal came out.
it is new zealand set n i check everything b4 upgrade.
now my baseband already changed to 2.30.00 can i possible downgrade to version 2.2?

U can downgrade firmware but you cant downgrade baseband

that mean after downgrade i still cannot get signal
i must buy turbo sim activate?

isit easier to upgrade my 1.1.4 2g iphone to 2.2.1 with mac ?

Yes. It's easy on a Mac. Just follow the iClarified guide on the first post to proceed.

Also, you may want to do a manual backup of internal files. Read the thred below on how to backup your internal files.

I just want to share some news here... i am not sure if someone else has also found this is working. this is actually a method to unlock baseband 4.22.01 iphone 3G

Today at afternoon, while I was retreating my car from car park, my phone rang and a friend of mine, Ben excitedly called announcing that he seem to have found a way to unlock the 3G iphone with the latest baseband 4.22.01. He mentioned that he was actually calling me from the 3G Iphone via the Maxis network. This is amazing as I yet to hear that it is openly inform that the 3G Iphone at baseband 4.22.01 was unlockable.
He later shown me the Iphone 3G at baseband 4.22.01 and here are the steps by steps he had taken. I would not be responsible for the unlock success but he really had done so.
1) from baseband 2.30.01, upgrade to firmware 2.2.1
2) upgrade to firmware 3.0beta and the baseband will be at 4.22.01
3) use quickpwn 3.02 and jailbreak and activate options
4) at completion of quickpwn 3.02, force downgrade to firmware 2.2 thru itune restore
5) error code 1013
6) phone restarted
7) use a no pin lock sim and connect to itune again
8) let itune sync and work on
9) phone unlock success
10) telco signal detected with baseband 4.22.01
The steps could miss out one or another but fundamentally it require upgrade to higher baseband then downgrade via firmware 2.2.1. Forget the error code 1013 and activate the phone and hopefully even at baseband 4.22.01, the phone had been unlocked just like the phone shown to me. I will post a photo with baseband and the telco signal soon.

First of all ... is your friends (Ben) phone a locked iPhone i.e from US, UK and other locked region phones?

If it was that easy to unlock the baseband, wouldn't the DevTeam figured it out already?

Sorry for being skeptical but unless your friend can furnish some evidence i.e screenshot of the "About" page showing the Model/Part No and it's from those locked regions + baseband 4.22.01 = Telco Signal, then this is just not believable.

p/s - as far as I know, the baseband for beta 3.0 is 04.20.01

As stated by DevTeam, 3.0 has not problem jailbreaking even when the first release of 3.0 beta 1. The current Quickpwn is not by DevTeam and highly recommended to avoid upgrading to 3.0 now till they have the proper tool to do so when Apple release the 3.0 firmware.

I would not even bother trying 3.0 unless you're a developer and 3.0 is still buggy. And yes, the baseband is 04.20.01 as frozzbyte stated.

i have tried the iclarified guide on jailbreak my iPhone 2G cos i have the same trouble ( try to upgrade then my iphone goes to emergency mode) ...
after this step :

Be ready to follow directions now. It will ask you to hold the home button and the power button for 10 seconds. Then, you will have to release the power button and hold the home button for 10 seconds to enter DFU.

it said succesful but my itunes says something about cannot restore then now my iphone cannot start at all....... try to ON cannot....

today,updated my iphone using custom firmware 2.2.1 via itunes
restart,cydia + installer already in there.
but failed to detect simcard,which is locked to orange but i'm using orange.
thats weird

so decided to unlock it using yellowsnow.
its working now with my orange simcard.

and now i wonder,what happen,

i juz get my new iphone 3G from england locked 1 .... n my iphone version is 2.2.1 ............ i install cydia d ~~ then i try to unlock it using tis atp9.yellowsn0w.com..............n its appear the software... then i install it .. it is version 0.9.8 ...................after i install it .. its like ntg .. i off the iphone then on bek ... n wait about 2 min then take out the simcard n reinsert it again............but its remain the same ............ cant use as well ............ which steps i doing wrong ????????? help !!!!!!!!!!

you will need to create a custom ipsw that will allow you to update safely without affecting the baseband.
wat is ipsw ?????? n i am vista user...............Pwnagetool 2.2.5 is mac user right ????????? so i can use it???????? n i reali little blur on it la.........help me pls !!

Pwnagetool is for Mac and will not work for windows platform.
