1. Google +1 is not affecting PR
2. Google +1 is affecting SERP, but not much

QUOTE(wirelessdude @ Jul 6 2011, 09:14 PM)
In time to come, it will matter. Google has already admitted that social mentions, especially on Twitter and Facebook, are considered in their algorithm.

QUOTE(lifeplayer @ Jul 7 2011, 03:16 AM)
if you talk about SERP, the answer is YES
*

i'm an ostrich, prefer lifeplayer's answer tongue.gif at least not much of a worry for now. still got time to explore until it "matters"... yawn.gif can get too tired sometimes, when there are too many interesting stuffs to follow.

QUOTE(junior5417 @ Jul 8 2011, 09:37 AM)
commenting on blogspot can put singgy? hmm.gif

i think he's talking about siggy in forum. hmm.gif if there is a way to put siggy on comments, let me know too.

agree with lifeplayer..advertiser surely will choose a website with high visitor than a website with a high PR but they don't have too much visitor..except you want to strengthen your website backlinks, then you should look for a high PR website..

the more high PR the more visible your webpage/blog on 1st page of search engine..

PR is the 2nd most important after Meta Tags
even your meta tag relevancy is 100% your site will be at the bottom of related search
example : your sites major keyword is free advertising
your opponent major keyword is free advertising too

your site PR is 0
Your opponent site PR is 5

when a client search for a keyword "Free advertising"

Your opponent site will be the 1st visible at the search result before your site..so don't think that google pagerank is not important..since 80% of user is choosing google to do searching smile.gif

tips: if your site is not on 1st page,80% chance that your sites will be not seen by user smile.gif

Yeah google ignores keyword meta tag and page rank is merely a badge which makes no difference to your serp positions.

If your talking about the toolbar page rank, it has no effect on your serps.

To get high PR all you need to do is get dofollow backlinks from high pr web pages, the anchor text could say anything and the page wouldn't have to be in any way related to the content on your own website. The easiest way to do this would be dofollow blog comments.

To get high in the serps you need to have relevant backlinks with optimized anchor texts from authority websites.

So picture this, 2 brand new websites going for the same keyword, 1 person is getting dofollow backlinks from high pr movable type blogs not related to the keyword and in the anchor text it says the owners name. The other person is getting backlinks from relevant pages with low pr but high authority domain and the anchor text contains the keywords. Each person gets 1000 links. The 1st person would end up with a higher toolbar page rank as more page rank has been passed to his website but he would be much lower in the serps for the keyword than the second person who has optimized his backlinks from relevant sources.

Check out Matt Cutts (google employee) youtube channel or have a read through the google webmaster forum where the toolbar rank is explained.

Dofollow backlink improve your PR, and dont forget that dofollow backlink is improving your SERP too
And SERP not only about "relevant backlinks with optimized anchor texts from authority websites", what you talking is only partial of the off-page SEO. There are still many factor including the onpage SEO such as h1,h2 tag, meta description etc. Besides, hosting, domain name etc is also some major factor that affect the SERP as well

FYI, Matt Cutts is the head of the webspam team at Google

Of course dofollow backlinks will help seo, just pointing out that what the guy was saying about pr being 2nd most important for serps is false. Having a pr6 page doesn't mean that you will outrank pr 4 page. PR is just a way of gauging how important a page is but doesn't show what a page is important for.

Yeah Matt Cutts also talks a lot of crap but hes the only person that talks publicly from google about improving serps.

Higher PR means more traffic to your site, and higher chance of getting more revenue generated from ads/sales.

Not true, high pr doesn't mean high traffic
Low pr site can have much more traffic than high pr site
High pr just mean you have number of dofollow backlink that pass you enough pr juice to achieve the pr level

With the new algorithm from google's Panda. They are now looking also into the content. In your website you must put a google+ button.
This way it will help google "rank" your content.
