going to kawah domas 'must' use local guide. yes, it is expensive. about 300k idr one hour for one group.

for local seller (not only in domas crater): if you do not want to buy it, do not ask anything to them. do not touch their item. if possible, do not see their item. of course they will follow you anywhere. but, you can just go on. if you buy 1 thing because of pity, then the other seller will come to you. sometimes, it is cheaper to buy in the shop than from the salesman.

if you want to buy some souvenir, remember to bargain. minimal is 50% of their offer. remember:the nearer to your car, the lower their price. smile.gif

for photographer: sometimes they will offer 'free' help to take your picture. but in the end, they will print the picture (taken from their own camera), and force you to buy it.

Ppl going to Bandung, especially Tangkuban Parahu should beware of the horrible scams. Saw in this blog this girl got scammed up to RM1,000 just in 2 hours in Kawah Domas.

Just got back from Bandung and it was raining everyday from 12pm to midnight (yes, seriously!) in November 2013. So plan all your activities during the day as early as possible. We traveled with a very good driver who charged us reasonable prices and was professional as well. Some places in Bandung can be very jam during the weekend. During our visit, we could not find alot of interesting clothing in the FOs. Some are overpriced pasar malam rip-offs. The only one worth visiting was probably just Rumah Mode and Grande. Strawberries in Tangkuban Parahu is sweet. We negotiated for IDR20,000 for big strawberries in a box.

For taxis, our supir advised to take only Blue Bird and Gemah Ripah (GR) only. He said that there were instances of overcharging and worse, robbing in other taxis. Overall, some places are not pedestrian friendly but still walkable. Airport is about 30 mins from the city, so you can still do some last minute shopping.

Hi,

I plan to stay 3 nights (early Dec) at a hostel in Jl Braga. According to the review, it is situated at a strategic location (i read it is walking distant to major sights and shopping area?), thus easier for a lone traveler like me to go around the town.

During my stay, i also plan to attend a concert at Eldorado, The Venue Concert Hall.

I would like to know:

1. Is there any 'backpacker street' in Bandung? Is Jl Braga consider as 1? if not, can any of you pls recommend?

2. Is the street lively at night? if i want to go for supper, cafes or pubs at night, will there be a good place to start?

3. As i noted the distance between Jl Braga to Eldorado, The Venue Concert Hall is a bit far, i would need to take a cab to and back. Is this Eldorado a famous place? Will cab drivers recognize this place?

4. Will i have any trouble getting back to town? Should i be worried about getting a cab after the show? The concert finishes proximately 9.30pm (estimation)

Thanks guys!

Was thinking if anyone did it before, maybe can tell what are the interesting things to see & do at both Bandung & Bali, one shot settle double Bs. laugh.gif
Roughly the idea is to relax & sightsee around in Bali for 3-4days then head to Bandung for the last 3days to shop shop shop & makan makan.

Any particular season/months to avoid other than the fasting/raya period? There's beach at Bali, so might avoid monsoon seasons too sweat.gif
