Anti bacterial salt?
I never heard of this before.The amount of salt you put depends on the size of the betta jar.

ph 6.2~7 should be fine for fishes. less than 6 means ur water more acidic, more than 7 means alkaline. and why put salt? your fish is sick? never heard of that salt too. if its healthy just aged water/chloramine will do fine.

if its the suitable size of your tank u're asking about, i'll say the larger the better. most people like to keep betta's in a dang small jar. which is bad for the fish health/liking. nobody likes being cramped in such a small space right? even thought it's a fish, well, you will want ur pet to be happy right. its really up to u. but personally i use a 10 gallon tank. its planted and filtered.

actually, you should avoid using salt at all cost. Only use salt to quarantine and treat sick fish. if you only have 1-2 betta, a 10 gallon tank is fine.. but when you have 100s like felix, 10gallon per fish is gonna take up a lot of space! haha...

if you intend to keep betta and breed betta, you need a minimum of 1gallon jar/tank. water change is to be done at least once every week, better if twice a week.

@the_catacombs
U never close ya tank? Hahah.. Used to heard ya betta jump out from the tank eh? shocking.gif

@betta9
Water pH doesnt make big fluctuation for show betta as they are fine with water with pH 6.5 - 7. But if ur keeping those wild betta, then u need to keep an eyes for the water parameter.

@inv
Personally i do suggest add a little big of salt (not the cooking salt) for betta is good for them. As it helps in prevent the fish got velvet and fungus. But only for show betta, if wild betta make sure there is 0 salt added unless they are sick.

lol, yea it's bit too large for 1 betta. so i keep some shrimps alot with it. plenty of hiding place so not much fighting or eating each other cases.

Both of you are wrong when you mention not using salt for betta keeping.Its either you're not really experienced or dont know much bout betta keeping so please,don give wrong advice.
Many experienced betta keepers/breeders uses some salt and have slighly acidic water when keeping their bettas.The tannic acid in ketapang leaves will make the water more acidic and its been said to calm the fish down and bettas love it.Even Atison Betta Spa has indian almond leaf extract(ketapang) where its used to add to the water in betta.And,a bigger tank doenst necessarily mean its better.

welcome back minghan thumbup.gif , i believe u used to have more than that(100 jars) shocking.gif i m now go into WILD, so already sell most of my collection to supplier.. left few pcs only

For the salt issue.. my humble opinion is only apply aquarium salt(white and blue oso can, but blue better) when the fish fall sick or when there is more than 20pcs of fish in comm tank... Salt act as a medium to increase the strength of the fish.. So, if ur fish fall sick, salt can enchance their ability to fight with gems and bacterias... So, if u constantly using salt, when the fish fall sick, there is not easy increase their strength again...

betta9, dun worry bout ur fish too much, are they newly purchase?
U shud let them calm down first... let them get use to the new enviroment first. May be, u can put some KTP or BWE for them to calm them down...

Cheers for the betta enthusiast, rclxm9.gif

Bacteria nowadays are harder to kill with salt because people kept mis-using salt as a water conditioner. vmad.gif
Ketapang acts as a water conditioner. SALT IS NOT. Get your facts right before you shoot. thx.

I used to have. but not anymore. no more space liao. Wilds are great, i'd move to wild if i could but no space for it at the moment.. haha... choop a few pieces of your mac juv when they breed!
btw, i think the blue salt is added with methylene blue, hence the blue tint. smile.gif

clamped fins = fins not opened, very close to their body.
usually happens when water parameter is not right or when it's sick.

fairly troublesome to take care compared to their shorter tail brothers but a good specimen is extremely stunning. keep an eye on the water parameter, any fluctuations or bad water quality will make the ray curl and most of the time, it's 'unrepairable'.

go for 2 ray if possible or 4 ray if the price is right. anything more than 4 ray is a bit too messy to be considered show grade.
