i don't know where you get your sources from but afaik bbs is the cleanest among all. you're hatching your own shrimp, therefore, you can control the source of water that you use. most daphnia are caught from oxidation pond and i'm sure there's lot more disease there than your tap water. and what attributes shrimp to disease? mind enlightening us?

as ryant3 has said, better to learn how to walk before you learn how to run. there are alot more resources on the web on this hobby. try googling for bettysplendens, that is a very newbie friendly site.
actually, the guides posted in post #1 are pretty straightforward too. |

last i checked, they were still selling bbs eggs and instant bbs in sls. for bbs eggs, don't buy the pre-mix, ask for the eggs only. best to give them a call before you drop by.

QUOTE Too much brine shrimp causes swimbladder disease. Alternate with microworms!! Also adjust the amount of eggs to fit your needs. More fry, more spawns, more eggs. Less fry, less eggs. swimbladder disease is more of an disorder rather than disease. it's usually caused by overeating. microworms causes ventralless fish and that is a fact! |

QUOTE(Kinci @ Mar 30 2009, 02:55 AM) ph 6.2~7 should be fine for fishes. less than 6 means ur water more acidic, more than 7 means alkaline. and why put salt? your fish is sick? never heard of that salt too. if its healthy just aged water/chloramine will do fine. actually, you should avoid using salt at all cost. Only use salt to quarantine and treat sick fish. if you only have 1-2 betta, a 10 gallon tank is fine.. but when you have 100s like felix, 10gallon per fish is gonna take up a lot of space! haha...if its the suitable size of your tank u're asking about, i'll say the larger the better. most people like to keep betta's in a dang small jar. which is bad for the fish health/liking. nobody likes being cramped in such a small space right? even thought it's a fish, well, you will want ur pet to be happy right. its really up to u. but personally i use a 10 gallon tank. its planted and filtered. if you intend to keep betta and breed betta, you need a minimum of 1gallon jar/tank. water change is to be done at least once every week, better if twice a week. |

QUOTE(Angel86 @ Mar 30 2009, 01:26 PM) Both of you are wrong when you mention not using salt for betta keeping. Its either you're not really experienced or dont know much bout betta keeping so please, don give wrong advice. Bacteria nowadays are harder to kill with salt because people kept mis-using salt as a water conditioner. Many experienced betta keepers/breeders uses some salt and have slighly acidic water when keeping their bettas. The tannic acid in ketapang leaves will make the water more acidic and its been said to calm the fish down and bettas love it.Even Atison Betta Spa has indian almond leaf extract(ketapang) where its used to add to the water in betta. And,a bigger tank doenst necessarily mean its better. Ketapang acts as a water conditioner. SALT IS NOT. Get your facts right before you shoot. thx. QUOTE(Kinci @ Mar 30 2009, 02:28 PM) sigh... never said a bigger tank must be better. already stated its personally i use a 10 gallon tank and its up to u to use what else. indeed ketapang leafs proves good for bettas. but if its about salt. check these out. yes. my sentiments exactly. http://www.fishlore.com/fishforum/betta-fi...read-first.html http://www.arofanatics.com/forums/showthread.php?t=28044 http://www.arofanatics.com/forums/showthread.php?t=182745 above got enough guides all bout betta keeping. betta's are freshwater fishes. salt proves to kill bactiria and helpful to get a sick fish back to healty. but non use it for long term water. only use when needed. QUOTE(spirit of demon @ Mar 30 2009, 02:29 PM) welcome back minghan I used to have. but not anymore. no more space liao. Wilds are great, i'd move to wild if i could but no space for it at the moment.. haha... choop a few pieces of your mac juv when they breed! For the salt issue.. my humble opinion is only apply aquarium salt(white and blue oso can, but blue better) when the fish fall sick or when there is more than 20pcs of fish in comm tank... Salt act as a medium to increase the strength of the fish.. So, if ur fish fall sick, salt can enchance their ability to fight with gems and bacterias... So, if u constantly using salt, when the fish fall sick, there is not easy increase their strength again... betta9, dun worry bout ur fish too much, are they newly purchase? U shud let them calm down first... let them get use to the new enviroment first. May be, u can put some KTP or BWE for them to calm them down... Cheers for the betta enthusiast, Spirit aka Felix btw, i think the blue salt is added with methylene blue, hence the blue tint. Added on March 30, 2009, 4:34 pm QUOTE(betta9 @ Mar 30 2009, 03:28 PM) clamped fins = fins not opened, very close to their body. usually happens when water parameter is not right or when it's sick. Added on March 30, 2009, 4:38 pm QUOTE(the_catacombs @ Mar 30 2009, 03:31 PM) i jz got myself a crowntail betta... actually my friend bought it but wants me to take care of it... so, ownership is not my hand although i'm taking care of it... fairly troublesome to take care compared to their shorter tail brothers but a good specimen is extremely stunning. keep an eye on the water parameter, any fluctuations or bad water quality will make the ray curl and most of the time, it's 'unrepairable'.go for 2 ray if possible or 4 ray if the price is right. anything more than 4 ray is a bit too messy to be considered show grade.
