Glad to help bro. biggrin.gif

That "BD copied" Alien 4 DVD is confirmed as not a copy from the BD after all. FYI, all Alien movies have not been released on BD yet!

I've not watched Alien 4 for very long time, hated it. tongue.gif  But I think it's possible it's a bad re-encode by the ahem people. However, the original DVD does have DTS, so it could already be like that.

Is it true Alien 4 hasnt come out on BD? How come the ahem dvd packaging printed like blu-ray cover?? vmad.gif I can do another checking, if it is truly BD copied disc, it should have the shinning blu-ray logo poping out immediately the dvd is being played rite? If not, I will go back the ahem store & screw them kau kau brows.gif

My previous BD copied bought dvd do pump up the rear speakers beautifully in stereo mode. But with this entire movie, they sound as quiet.

Aiya..

All tis old movies if remaster to bluray nids a lot of work.. they (producers) nid to dig out de original film (negative) to remaster it properly .. if they take de master cp of SD n rework it from tat, then itd look really bad..

Only pan & scan anamorphic Panavision or opened-up Super35 movies for home video will fit your TV fully. biggrin.gif

Otherwise, there will always be black bars if the movie is wider than your TV. How big the bars depends on the movie's aspect ratio below:

Common Theatrical Movies = 1.85:1, 2.35:1, 2.40:1

Normal TV = 1.33:1
Widescreen TV = 1.78:1

So for 1.85:1 movies (i.e. Jurassic Park) on a widescreen TV, there will be a very thin black bars, while for 2.40:1 (i.e. Casino Royale) movies will have the thickest black bars. Some animated movies are framed at 1.78:1, so that will fill up you widescreen TVs in full.

Why is the theatrical movies so wide? When the TV was invented, movies in theaters starting to lose customers. To enhance or to make movies a special experience, special lenses was designed to have the movie screen wider. So if you look at theatrical movies before early 1940s, they all have aspect ratio of 1.33:1.

mikapoh, maybe you should ask yourself this question......why would forumers here spend so much money on original BD, if its not superior in picture quality and audio quality.

also, if you're happy with the quality of the dvds that you're supplied with, why worry?

if you're curious, then you should drop in to someplace where you can sample true high def....but i have to warn you. its infectious...

i was just reading the avbuzz.com linked by someone here...with its motto...

人人毒我, 我毒人人。 which translate as....everyone poison me, i poison everyone.

Heheh, bro mikapoh reminded me of some friends a long time ago:

"This ahem dvd sure good one, got the Dolby and THX animations!!"

Then it occurred to them that the ahemakers can put in any animation from anywhere. Same as these BD copies - who can verify for sure anyways? In the end you'll end up in an endless circle, buying several copies of the same movie in the vain hope that THIS disc, this last one, will be the one with the definitive DTS track, or special feature...

I don't have a BD player, but I'm hoping to change that soon. I need my son to watch Planet Earth smile.gif

OH yeah, maybe one fine day I will be poisoned by all of you into blu-ray world. So sad about the ahem BD copied dvd. But some of them are quite good and this is what really needed in this thread of talking about upscaling dvd players. If not, these upscaler dvd will die off soon.

Fankly speaking I am still waiting the BD player price to go down. Now, the Panny BD player, forgot which model but claimed to be 5 star rating is now selling a RM1,999.00 plus 5 free BD discs. The salesman claimed it will go down further !!!

PS3 decodes any HD format available.. like ppl said here, it just dont bitstream them as it does all the decoding by itself edi.. now some say good, some say not good, and some say no diff.. my take is..

since decoding requires ram/processor.. the ps3 has one of the best processor available now.. even vs those from intels.. therefore... la la la

and the ps3 can load bds at blazing speed compared to other bd players..

now as it being the best, its just as dirtrun said.. it may not be the best.. but it is damn right the most value..

dirt, check out the new elite pioneer bd player.. aiman linked it before.. ANALOGUE AUDIO OUT!!!
