War over already? Damn. Anyway, all wide angle will distort in a way or another. It's just that the Sigma distortion is so much that's it's almost fisheye. It's a love hate relationship. It's great for landscape but don't ler use it to shoot people. If you use any wide angle to shoot group photo the people at the edge will look phat. It's just the characteristic of an UWA lens. You can only fix it in Photoshop. If you're getting the Tokky it's fine but no need to kutuk Sigma blindly.

Here let me help you puke some more. laugh.gif

I used to have the Sigma 10-20mm. I can like/dislike the distortion. But it's just not sharp even if you use small apertures.

I am not judging the sharpness if I zoom in close to the photo. But by just fitting it onto my 15.4" laptop, it just looks not sharp.

Now that I replaced it with a Tokina 12-24mm, I have no regrets.

Well... maybe one... I want Tokina's 11-16mm f/2.8!

okay i did some googling of images from both lenses. the tokina looks very normal whereas the sigma is awesomely distorted. haha!! since i'm not a professional, so i don't have to make people look pretty in my photos. tongue.gif

thanks for the info, i might get this smile.gif

There's some serious UWA poison going on in the 10-20 flickr pool...

The love hate relationship for UWA and fish-eye is a good description. Some hate it, others love it. I hate it only 10% of the time tongue.gif

Unfortunately, I also wish the Sigma would be sharper. It's quite cumbersome to sharpen my wide angle shots. But they're passable for me (trying to justify owning the lens here teehee), again some might want sharper lenses.

Would love to get the fisheye as well, but the wallet is still reeling. Perhaps in the future.

Shinchan, what do you use to shoot girls? smile.gif

Ah... quite difficult to answer.

If we are talking about range & ssuming APS-C sensor:
<10.5mm - usually fisheye
10-16 - usually ultra-wide angle
16-70 - the standard zoom
>70 - telephoto (some might categorize >200mm as super telephoto, but I just bundle everything in)

macro lenses can fall between 55-150mm (macro lenses are usually characterized by their extreme close focusing distance and also magnification instead of range, hence the diverse coverage)
portraits are usually >70mm (but some use the 10-20 & fisheye for unique, weird shots)
landscape lenses usually fall into the fisheye & UWA group (but some use a long zoom to pick out details or isolate certain landscape features)
walkaround lenses usually the standard zoom (but some folks use UWA lenses too)

Remember, only valid for APS-C. Full-frame cameras have different range (e.g. 17mm is considered UWA already).
