if u r asking if this lens autofocus with d40/x/60, then yes since it is AF-S lens. by all means, this is not a perfect lens but a very convenient one, that's why this of often known as a traveller's lens. It is a bit soft on the long end but a bit of PP would fix that. The VR really works. I have this with my D40 and I am one happy owner. icon_rolleyes.gif

night shots...under low light...
if u try on moving subject...u'll suffer a bit...
bcoz the shutter speed sometimes a bit too low...

but for still subject...
u can do as u please...
especially u have a tripod handy...

try lower the aperture...and use slow shutter...

Speaking of tripods, I'm looking for one since the el-cheapo tripod that I got with my camera is already kaput after 3 months only, haha. Keen on a Nat Geo Tundra model from Manfrotto that I saw on Shashinki. Question is, should I go for a ball head or a 3 way head? What are the pros and cons of each? Thanks friends!

manfrotto is decently good...

and go for ballhead...
it's much faster..operation wise...
and smaller compared to 3-way...
but try to get a good head...
else u'll be frustrated...

xandman, thanx! the tripod I'm setting my eyes on comes with either a ball/3-way head. I assume they're Manfrotto heads...are they good enuff? A photog friend of mine, on the other hand, recommended the 3-way..he said it's easier to use and 'marking'...whatever that means. lol blush.gif

do you mean no surreal effect? Seriously and honestly, in my POV, i look at HDR as solely only high dynamic range...no added effect.. but of course lar...from time to time i like to look at surreal pictures lor..but its really not my cup of tea..you know why? because i suck so bad at photoshop and photomatix doh.gif
