I find that these remote-controlled fans have a really "thick" rod/connector...it's very imposing...anyone know any more modern fans that look good? I don't mind regulator as I could change the ugly ones with, say, Clipsal regulator.

I ve installed it for all 3 of my kdk fans in room. Any more reviews regarding the baby fan? my dining hall has really low ceiling and its a 10ft x10 ft space. |

Panasonic & KDK is manufactured under same factor in Shah Alam - Panasonic Manufacturing Malaysia Berhad.
KDK is not OEM for Panasonic and KDK is not producing fan for Panasonic. In Japan KDK and Panasonic fan is under same management. Why 2 brand? It is because of long long story ( may be more than 80years ). What i know is long time ago, KDK is going down in Japan market, and Panasonic is growing up and finally they have a deal to merge in same management until nowadays. For motor wise, Panasonic and KDK exactly the same. Same power, same air delivery, same air velocity,RPM and noise ( if the design is almost same ). THE SAME CATEGORY AS BELOW : F-MY143 AND KY143 - TERMINATED BUT SERVICE PART STILL AVAILABLE F-M14C5 AND K14X5 -TERMINATED BUT SERVICE PART STILL AVAILABLE F-M15E6 AND K15Y6 - NAMI SERIES AND V TOUCH F-M14E8 - NAMI JR. SERIES ( ONLY PANASONIC AVAILABE ) F-M14C8 AND K14X8 - REPLACEMENT MODEL OF F-M14C5 AND K14X5 F-M14D9 AND K14Y9 - REPLACEMENT MODEL OF F-M14D9 AND K14Y9 * START WITH "F" IS PANASONIC, START WITH "K" IS KDK A11YS OR BABY FAN IS MADE IN GUANGDONG CHINA. Some experience to share : 1) Why Panasonic and KDK is trusted brand ? - Lot of investment in R&D, a lot of abnormal test to ensure the product safety . 2) Additional of safety switch feature - to trigger off the product before the product tend to fall down ( due to installation problem) 3) Motor Shaft and Product pipe or rod is thicker compare to other brand. 4) Add of safety plate for blade to avoid blade fly off . Some advise : 1) Do not simply change the pip or rod, if you wish to please get it from Panasonic service center but not the pipe/rod buying from hardware shop because the inner diameter of the pipe/rod is not the same. Worry it will wear off after long time running. 2) Must install safety wire - it prevent product from direct fall down to the floor instead of hanging by safety wire. 3) Must tighten the blade screws once a year . 4) Must ensure your contractor insert cotter pin into the bolt. 5) The shorter the pipe, the wobble the fan. F-M14E8 is a short ceiling fan type but not using pipe type for hanging, it is using ball joint structure same as baby fan A11YS ) This post has been edited by zeroxweng: Apr 11 2010, 04:24 AM |

There's one type of baby/small fan at mamak restaurant with such powerful wind. Though it small, but sit beneath the fan and you'll be amazed
Anyone here installed such fan at home? |

Greetings and Good day to you all.
I'm currently planning to change my age old ceiling fan, which had served me well (GEC brand) with a remote control fan. I've been checking out some shops and it came down to to brands and 2 models (Alpha - VS5 vs Elmark - VIP 62). However during my survey none of the shops that i went to had these 2 model and brand under the same roof thus making it slightly hard to choose and compare. my criteria is that it has to be powerful in the sense of wind power and speed, reliable and good after sales support. As for the price, i'm not that worried as both cost almost the same, which is around RM 270 +. I've got the specs for Alpha - VS5 and pretty good, even has natural air function but couldn't get much detail on the Elmark model though. If anyone out there has any word of advise. i would very much appreciate it. Thanking you in advance. |

I have seen the Elmark ceiling fan. Quite small in size and the speed is good. Not sure if it s the same model as the one you are saying. Some call it the Baby Fan.

thanks for ur responces Tohsan & Beyond... n i do agree that some famous brand are not so realiable nowadays...
on the elmark, probaly i have to go back to the shop and take a pic of it... one of my colleageus mentioned that elmark fans are quite fast if compared to rest but its doesn't spread... meaning only the area directly down is covered. |

the subsale condo i bought come with a Panasonic ceiling fan, so far so good....i was initial fretting that it was the modern type because i initially prefer those old fashioned type where we adjust the speed and also switch it from the wall, but now i am happy with this modern one

i've made up my mind... placed the order for 2 Alpha VS5 fans - 1AB & 1 PWT.... unfortunately have to wait till end of month for PWT... this info is coming from the factory itself
these alpha fans must have been a hit during the recently held HomeDeco to cause this wait period. anyway, here an extract from another forum with a good review on this: ectract from http://www.malaysiabrides.com/forum/index....30entry329281 QUOTE I installed 5 Alpha VS5 fans in my house and so far there is no problem. When u choose a fan remember these points: Number of blades Go for a 5 blade fan as it creates more wind (usually) but not always. Length of blades KDK fans have the longest blades of 60 inches. Alpha fans have max 56 inches which is still sufficient. U dont want too long blades unless its in the hall area. Type of blades The metal and ABS types are the best compared to wood as they dont sag after some time. KDK 60 inch metal blades will sag after some time due to its weight so best not to take the long ones. I find the ABS blades good as it is rust proof and is silent and smooth. Remote Control Always get the radio frequency type compared to infrared. Radio type u dont need to aim it at the fan in order to use it. Motor Get a 5 speed RPM 90-250 fan for better wind. The higher the RPM the faster the fan blades will move for that particular speed. Your motor should be a minimum 188. This represents the strength of the motor in moving the blades. Warranty Alpha gives 3 years for motor warranty. I think KDK is only 1 year. CONCLUSION I chose Alpha VS5 because it has better color and the fan gives me good wind. Some fans only give good wind if ure directly under it. Ive noticed this in some models of Elmark. But Alpha gives u wind all around. The fan is quite silent even at Speed 5 which is good. If ure interested in Alpha fans remember that there is not much difference between VS5, V8, V10, V12, etc. The differences are in the length of the blades, type of remote control and motor strength. Use the criteria given above and u wont go wrong with your choice. The current selling price for Alpha VS5 fans is RM 270 only. I have been to many shops in PJ and Puchong and the price differs from RM 290 - 550 for the same model which is ridiculous so dont get cheated. Go to this shop in Damansara Uptown called Sangyou (facing LDP) and get your Alpha fans there. Thats the cheapest ive found so far. The lights and other fittings there are more expensive compared to other places but Alpha fans are cheapest there. There are many other brands in the market but dont bother trying them. All look good at first but later may not last. KDK fans will surely last a lifetime but brands like Alpha are fast catching up. Alpha also has good customer service and they will come and repair your fan if there is any problem. KDK wont. Hope this info helps. Cheers! |
