i have very good experience with panasonic fans - wall and ceiling - so far none have failed (some now almost 10 yrs old). just need occasional regreasing when they squeek - that is all.

on the other hand i have bought some nice alpha metal fans and they cant be used. motor fail and all... they only look nice for display. really regret that i bought two at the same time.

o shit! doh.gif doh.gif doh.gif I bought 6 alpha fans, booked them during HOMEDEX, already paid all, donno how long can they last.

my personal opinion...

been using KDK at my mom's house since 1984
until now....
no problem at all....
just make sure sometime oil a bit the point where u think my get rusty....
and wipe the dust at it...
thats all....
so far....still in good condition and served us well....
the only prob is the regulator...
but not because of malfunction
the body of it...plastic..after so many years....
it becomes so fragile and broken here an there
we just change the regulator...and that was 5 years ago....

my current Panasonic 5 blades...and 3 units of KDK at my own house
so far so good...
work perfect....maybe because of there are still new...
bought in May 2008....
one of the KDK squeaky a bit last time
simply call the service centre...
they came over and change the blade...
no charge....
maybe because of warranty still valid...

my brother-in law 2 unit of KDK fans already kong barely 3 years usage, after sent to repair when switch on it emit some loud bearing sound when switch to "hi" mode. Not sure what is the problem.

i still prefer to go for long service branded name like pana and KDK...
and i still will choose those without remote... as the remote and spoilt and need to change battery if use for too long and never use the remote for too long. battery leak.. hahaaha...

those aplha one sure looks nice.. but not sure how long they can last.. as they are more towards on outlook then the durability...

nowadays even KDK also can last long, my old house already kong 2 pieces barely 2 years usage vmad.gif

I guess its more depend on the quality of the part of the fan rather than brand. If they are branded but use low quality part due to cost cutting, I think no good brand will last long as the manufacturer ultimate objective is to take money from your pocket.

Most of the ceiling fan's motor is China made.

And alot companies like Alpha also local companies. Unlike last time, i think local brand becoming better now.

Actually 4 of my fans are Alpha Wings which are their low cost product. Only RM155-170 for 5 ABS blades with remote control

can't do anything already, all my fans already installed just pray they won't breakdown when u least expected.

QUOTE(NiteDevil @ May 3 2010, 03:57 PM)
Greetings and Good day to you all.

I'm currently planning to change my age old ceiling fan, which had served me well (GEC brand) with a remote control fan. I've been checking out some shops and it came down to to brands and 2 models (Alpha - VS5 vs Elmark - VIP 62). However during my survey none of the shops that i went to had these 2 model and brand under the same roof thus making it slightly hard to choose and compare.

my criteria is that it has to be powerful in the sense of wind power and speed, reliable and good after sales support. As for the price, i'm not that worried as both cost almost the same, which is around RM 270 +. I've got the specs for Alpha - VS5 and pretty good, even has natural air function but couldn't get much detail on the Elmark model though.

If anyone out there has any word of advise. i would very much appreciate it. Thanking you in advance. smile.gif

Nowadays a lot of used to be good brand like KDK or Panasonic also not so good already, my fren kdk fan already spoilt 4 pieces after 2 years usage. He tot KDK suppose to last for generation, hell its not.

My new house I install 6 pieces of the Alpha model 828-5B very quiet and strong wind. So far so good no complaint. My installer are direct from Alpha factory. smile.gif
