Depends on how much you are going to sell your 40GB. I'm rather sure that you will not be able to sell it anymore than RM1100 or so, even that price is a lil stretch.

The core-80GB for Malaysia is about RM1550-RM1600 currently, so you'll still need to plunge down RM300-RM400 atleast for the new model.

What you get basically, is just warranty from Malaysia. Personally, I say keep that RM300+ and buy a bigger HDD for your current PS3 instead.

what u said totally rite , there is no reason for us to change from PS3 ( SG unit ) to PS3 ( MY unit ) just to get the Malaysia Warranty...for me i dont see any special bout the MY unit , just same as my current PS3...so now i just planning to collect some money to upgrade bigger HDD.

I have a question regarding av cables. Just bought my ps3 during launch, was playing at my bro's house in KL using an additional HDMI cable. Now I'm back in my home, only to notice my LCD Philips supports only HDTV and DVI.

Is there a resolution difference between HDTV and DVI? Should I be getting a DVI-to-HDMI cable or a HDTV AV component instead?? Help greatly appreciated. Thanks.

hi guys, another newbie here who got the ps3 yesterday at the launch. having had experience using the psp, i found the initial setup a breeze. However, when i wanted to register to psn, the system mentioned that i needed to do a system update first.

invoking the system update feature, it said the new firmware was 2.43. ok, so i then proceeded to do a system update. It connected to server, then after 30mins, only had 1% progress, then stopped with an error connecting to server. why is this so? i tried 3 times and still can't get the blasted thing updated! pls help

it may be ur internet connection..sometimes the playstation website also kindda slow..cause there is a lot of people using it...the best way to do the update are using the PC , download the update to ur thumbdrive...then update ur PS3 by using the thumbdrive...

here is some link might useful to u : http://ps3explained.com/advanced/folder-structure/

Is your Phillips a monitor?

Because clearly, I have NEVER heard or even remember a single Phillips HDTV having only DVI. Do you mean VGA instead?
But in any case, IF so your Phillips does only have DVI then just get a DVI-HDMI cable. While HDMI can support higher resoultions than DVI, it isn't something that you should worry about as the resolution it supports far exceeds the conventional 1080p res we have as a standard now.

If not, just get component.

Forget updating using the PS3.

Do it this way:

1) Download this fimrware using your PC, in which case is currently 2.42(2.43 is out but its not compulsary unless yours is Japan model, which is isn't).

2. Create the corresponding folders in an external storage device(be it thumbdrive, external HDD, etc.) - PS3 > UPDATE > [place the downloaded fimrware here]

3. Connect your external storage device to your PS3, go to System Settings and select update firmware. After that just follow the steps from then on, they are just common sense.

Hope you have no problems updating your PS3 after this.

hey there mandy, welcome to the family. Regarding the receipt, your warranty will last for 1 year only. I think the receipt could last for a year provided you keep it in a proper place.

Thanks GamersFamilia and SSJBen... am downloading it onto my PC now.

Oh, another really silly question - I was going through the instructions for Resistance, it seems there should be a little compartment next to the BD slot, which flips open to reveal MS, SD and a variety of input slots. Err.... how come mine doesnt flip open!? Also checked the user manual and there's nothing on it. The only inputs are the USB slots at the bottom of this hidden lid ???

As seen here, my TV has DVI, PC and HD connector. No HDMI.
What should I do with the audio connector next to the DVI?? I don't think a DVI-HDMI cable has an audio jack. Neither does my PS3 has a audio output.

Coz the new 80GB ps3 does not come with card reader slots. It's basically the same as the 40GB but with a larger HDD. There's only 2 USB slots in the front.

u can use AV cable to output sound (settings>sound setting>audio output) from TV and use DVI-HDMI cable for video output
