You did? I was there around 1230 to 2 pm.. it was drizzling. U should have called me! tongue.gif
NIXIE is not along Jalan Pasar per se.. it's off Jalan Pasar. The road is Jalan Landak laugh.gif

Most other shops selling from RM80 onwards.. some not even Mean Well! mad.gif

The name of the shop is WIZE INTELLIGENCE SDN. BHD.
Got to meet the leng-lui (Cherry) today, she's few months pregnant! hahahaha laugh.gif

RM58 is not too bad lah for a 3A laugh.gif

Elna Cerafine is affordable and sound performance is I'd say value for money biggrin.gif

ongbs,
The ID is 8.37mm and the OD is 15.37mm.
The black one looks like it is of different material than the green one?
Mine is also painted light green but one side is painted brown.
You don't have anymore of those black donuts, no?
I think on the grren, you need more turns ler..

Are you using a linear PSU? Whats your 'tank' cap value there?

Yes yes saw that input caps! Better huh? Value?

QUOTE(ongbs @ Sep 7 2008, 03:30 AM)
jazzy,
What is your donut diameter?
refer to my pic, both black and green donuts about 12mm dia, with black one slightly wider.

The black one with 0.08" wire and 5 turns with no SQ distort but the green one with 12 turns of 0.09" wires still cause distortion, the uH not enough.
If your donuts about the same size then don't go for >0.09" wires. I will try 0.08" wire with the green one later.

note the twin input caps in test? It sound better to me smile.gif

update:
hmm...with 20 turns of 0.08" wires still cause distortion! sweat.gif
lower till 6 turns still the same....possible this green donut not suitable for this application?

ongbs,
why don't you use all black donuts? tongue.gif

actually you can overlap the coils..

So your input caps is 2.53uF total?

I put in a ELNA 2.2uF on Board 1.. obviously better that the yellow stock caps.. the sound is more lively! biggrin.gif

Here's the pix...

QUOTE(ongbs @ Sep 7 2008, 07:07 PM)
Jazzy, I got 4 black donuts.
Not sure about material but look like more ferrite contain.

Yours bigger, should be OK, my green donut with max 20 turns, can't wind more unless I overlap it.

Using SPMS.
Input caps is 2.2uF (yellow) + 0.33uF (white), gave me brighter mid/high smile.gif

So ditch the green ones and totally use all blacks! tongue.gif

Not much DIY on the T-Amp today.
I was rebuilding the PSU for my external DAC.
Then a friend drop by to mod his external DAC also.Fix a new coax RCA socket of his Marantz CDP.
And was listening to some great CDs using his front end and my T-Amp..
What a great Sunday afternoon! thumbup.gif

Whoa.. thats a 'neat' trick... sort like a blind test eh? tongue.gif

Aha! The T-Amp Bi-Amping Club! wink.gif Nice to know you're 'upgrading' hehehe laugh.gif

QUOTE(ongbs @ Sep 8 2008, 07:03 AM)

hehe, same as you, got a friend came over to test T-amp at my place yesterday...
I purposely cover the amp with paper, the bare board without casing sit on the floor(patient 2).

After 15 min enjoying music then I opened up the paper, he..."WOW! The amp so small!"  laugh.gif

I just bought 2pcs of twin-binding terminal for speaker box , wanna mod my FS for bi-amp too  brows.gif

Hi there fellow T-Amp-ers! biggrin.gif

Looks like I didn't miss much here tongue.gif
No.. I am NOT back yet. Just that I have an internet access where I am at this point of time wink.gif
Can't stay away from the thread for too long huh.. blush.gif

So far, nothing 'new' on our T-Amp scene eh..?

Gabanyayaya, is he buying one since he's joining the club? He has been quiet these past 2-3 days...

The last thing I did before going away to my second board is to install a 10,000uF capacitor across the power supply input. Probably need to 'burn in' that cap too before any sonic improvements/or otherwise is heard! tongue.gif

I have checked the voltage/current drop when playing (really)LOUD.. none detected by my DMM..

Still on power supply, during switch ON the voltage peaks to 19VDC for few milliseconds! Don't know if this would be harmful to my little marvel in the long run. Also during this time, the DC volts across the speaker terminals maxed out about 2.4V, just for a very brief moment. This explains the speaker 'pop'/thump sounds..This worries me more.. sweat.gif

Speakers wise, I momentarily disconnect them before switching ON. Have not come up with anything with the power supply surge... hmm.gif

Anything on your side guys? Y.C./ongbs/xtorm? Sorry if I missed out anyone else but it's only the FOUR of us? ohmy.gif

It's a big NO NO! tongue.gif
The input of this T-Amp is DC biased, hence the presence of the input caps! tongue.gif
However, there are other Class D designs that do away with such a limitation.. biggrin.gif
On the bright side, you can use the opportunity to 'finetune' the sonic character of this T-Amp, similar to tube or opamp rollings.. wink.gif
This is what makes it interesting in the quests to get the right kind of tune in your system.. brows.gif

QUOTE(blah1134 @ Sep 9 2008, 01:36 PM)
what about going capless for the input ?

risky one

Terribly quiet eh this thread tongue.gif

QUOTE(ongbs @ Sep 9 2008, 08:59 PM)
I believe it is due to power supply, try without the T-amp, is it still the same?

Hehe..
While away, finally I have some time to think about a lot of things, T-Amp included! tongue.gif More little mods coming up.. wink.gif

Anyway, just got back from 'shopping'.. managed to buy some jazz CDs with 'high resolution recording' wink.gif
It really sounds great/different from the 'normal CDs'.. The shop was using a Cerwin Vega speakers with a BMB sub.. I am sure it will be even better on my T-Amp system! thumbup.gif
Will post some pictures in my ALL THAT JAZZ thread.. wink.gif

I know xtorm burnt himself out.. wink.gif He has not recovered huh? Heyy xtorm, you better get in here.. could be 'TWS'- Thread Withdrawal Syndrome'.. hahahaha laugh.gif

Any of you read the T-Amp vs GainClone thread in diyaudio.com? What you guys think? tongue.gif
For the sake of 'fun' and satisfying my curiosity, I might be making one GC see if it's worth the money, like our T-Amp.. I just got hold of a torroid tranny.. time to get the soldering iron HOT again! laugh.gif
Any of you guys have a GC/Listen to one? tongue.gif

QUOTE(ongbs @ Sep 9 2008, 10:49 PM)

You are away and enjoying your "special moment"  brows.gif

Some more xtorm "burnt" by his t-amp, haven't recover yet I believe  doh.gif

Hehehe.. it's ok.. need to know that you're still 'alive'.. hehehe laugh.gif
So, anything interesting development on your T-Amp? My T-Amp is taking a 'break' while I am away.. hehe

YEah.. some of the comparison/argument seems valid.. Again there are many variable factors involved.. bottom line is again, its just a guide. At the end of the day let your ears.. or rather you wallet decides... laugh.gif

QUOTE(xtorm @ Sep 9 2008, 11:43 PM)
haha bro so sorry tongue.gif

i would love to listen to a gainclone, but if price vs perforamnce is the main concern, i sitll vote ta2024 tongue.gif

read tht thread before, some mix review, some say convert form GC to t-amp, some the other way around...hmmm, mayb its mainly the meterial use?

Oh really? Hmm time is more 'manageable' here than back home tongue.gif
I believe I am experiencing the same too! After more than 50 hours, after testing with some audio files that is really bass heavy, it seems to me like I am having a sub! biggrin.gif
The bass now is really well extended.. very low without being boomy or loose.. the windows and doors were actually vibrating from a few watts of power... I was imply amazed! Before this I had a sub installed. Now it's even better! No sub! thumbup.gif

You think the GC would be better? Maybe.. The GC is not perfect, so is the T-Amp.. It is just something that I think is worthwhile comparing to since both are chip amps.. also I already have the components in hand, just a PSU to fire it up... Nahhh I don't think I can ditch any of them or any of my stuffs.. especially the T-Amp! Still holding the No.1 spot.. hehe.

Any new development on your side? Don't la work too hard... All work and no play make... well you know how it goes... laugh.gif

QUOTE(Y.C. @ Sep 10 2008, 12:15 AM)
Wow, Jazzy, although you're away, you're actually more alert and posted more comments than anyone of us. I was in my office the whole of yesterday and now feeling the effect of being fully drained, still staying awake to do some catching up with my T-amp. The sound is unbelievably good; my 86dB/1W/1m tiny Q Acoustics 1010 doesn't sound like small loudspeakers at all! How so arh?
And now you're contemplating making one GC amp? What if it turns out marginally better than T-amps? Ditch them all? It'll be a shame! shakehead.gif  cry.gif
