ongbs,
Actually it's 19 inches but who's counting! :P

For 1uH it's just a foot/12 inches..

Casing? You liked the back cover eh?.. Just plain cover, 'brushed aluminium' finish.. I have been saving that casing for a special project.
The T-Amp deserves such a casing!

Anyway it's not really finished yet.. so feast your eyes on this preliminary pix! brows.gif
Current config: Stereo power amplifier. Using my 2nd. board with 10uF input caps, NO toroid on this one(yet).
Next config: bi-amp using 1st board with 1uH toroid inductors and 2uF input caps. smile.gif

Jazzy,

Look like I need to DIY donut as I saw some bare donuts that day  blush.gif

If I remember correctly, that day you used 20 inches wire to make 10uH right?
Then the 1uH one need how long wire?

eh...where is the casing top and front covers huh? Look solid woh  drool.gif  drool.gif  drool.gif

xtorm,
the size of the wire will also affect the inductance, not to mention length tongue.gif
the wire that I used is 0.055mm dia. About a foot or 14/15 turns around the ferrite core to get ~1uH. biggrin.gif

You like the casing eh? I did too! That was bought by a friend in Bangkok! rclxms.gif
Sorry to say, you can't get it here, locally. cool2.gif

I am using a Nikon Coolpix 5700. Sharp eh? brows.gif See it's pix at the bottom. Worth every ringgit I paid for it! tongue.gif

The casing is about 3000 Baht (do your own conversions) laugh.gif (ongbs, I answered that, k biggrin.gif)

Hahaha, all these smileys wearing songkok one! ketupat 2.gif Not even finished day one of puasa! laugh.gif

Guys, what color LED would you use in that kind of casing? Please don't say BLUE. Almost ALL LEDs on every electronic equipments are BLUE.. now blue makes it look 'cheap'... doh.gif

QUOTE(xtorm @ Sep 1 2008, 03:44 AM)
wow so much copper wire needed for inductor?? hmm 1uh, i like airy but i dont wan it to be harsh, im using 2.2uf input cap...

wah nice pic and casing....what camera is tht  tongue.gif how much was tht casing?

wei ongbs, u also wana diy the toroids ah

ongbs,
not at all tongue.gif
Yep.. I thought so.. WHITE on the aluminium panel.. kinda 'sexy' wink.gif
The brightness can be controlled by the series resistor..
I have some white LEDs but it's the little ones size about 3mm. including the LED mount.. what I afraid is that the installation of the LED,
wrong position/size will affect the good looking panel. But without anything right now, the front panel looks so 'naked' and bland.. tongue.gif

Whoa.. those speakers are real heavy weights! 20kilos! Mine is only 18.. tongue.gif And boy, you've got an four drivers there.. wow! I can imagine what kind of sound you're getting! thumbup.gif And all these driven by a 'tiny' little thing.. unbelievable ya! laugh.gif

Yeah.. I picked that 'kemek' tweeter right away.. it doesn't really affect the sound right.. only 'sakit mata' tongue.gif
Actually the tweeter can be 'returned to normal'.. have you tried or you don't want to risk damaging it further? biggrin.gif

See attached LEDS pix.. decisions.. decisions... hmm.gif

QUOTE(ongbs @ Sep 1 2008, 06:30 AM)
thanks for your reply bro...
well, as for the LED, I vote "white" but not too bright tongue.gif

The attached speakers is the FS that I blast with my T-amp, 1x8" mid, 2x8" woofer and a tweeter, weight over 20kh per unit smile.gif
note the kemek tweeter? thanks for my toy...dia yang kasi kemek  doh.gif  cry.gif

It's hard to believe how much 'little' power you need to drive a high efficiency speakers.. and all this while i am driving my speakers with a 90+90Watter! laugh.gif

Looks like you have a potential modder in the family.. talents yet to be tapped! tongue.gif

Yes.. we're n the same wavelength here.. the little one, white flush mounted.. let me make a prototype mount/installation how well this would look.
Ooops.. when you mentioned it.. it certainly does... anyway, puasa cannot have 'dirty' thoughts.. hahaha laugh.gif
The important thing here is the look must commensurates with the excellent sound here.. hehe. Hari Raya can 'tayang' to the guests.. cool2.gif

Since today is first day of puasa, nothing much to do except clocking the burn in hours for the amp.. brows.gif

Say, if you want to wound yourself the 'donut' inductors, they're RM1.20 each from NIXIE. You need four.
Copper wires they don't sell by the metres.. You have to asked around if they're kind enough to cut to measure.. tongue.gif
Minimum purchase of 1 kg at RM71 per kilo. it's kinda 'too much'.. mad.gif
I am playing with the idea of using a heavier gauge wire for the inductors.. should lower the resistance and handle more current. Refer attached pix...

QUOTE(ongbs @ Sep 1 2008, 01:52 PM)
yes, when 1st time i blast the FS with T-amp i also surprise! That little amp can drives it well tongue.gif

The kemek tweeters? I "returned" it before...but the next day when I got back home...my toy will bring me in front of the tweeters and show me his "mod"  doh.gif  vmad.gif

it won't affect the SQ....only like you said...not so "friendly" to eyes :(

Well, as for the LED i will choose the right side for flush mounting, middle one look "classy" but got a "nipple" come out  unsure.gif

xtorm,
1 kg of copper will make thousands of inductors! tongue.gif Nahhh, we just wanna make a few wink.gif

There's an error of 3% with handheld.. but we don't need a highly precised inductor,do we?
This is audio..this is T-Amp.. precision? biggrin.gif Whats 1uH between friends.. laugh.gif

I am happy with my elcheapo LCR meter. 1uH difference wont make much difference anyway. You never know, 11 uH might sounds a little better than 10uH! Hahahaha.. we can only wish/dream! cool2.gif
BTW, Its 1uH that I want, NOT 10uH. Too mellow n laid back..

So how come the stock inductor is reading 1uH onmy meter and 50uH on ongbs's? shakehead.gif

QUOTE(xtorm @ Sep 1 2008, 04:59 PM)
jazzy, some nice inductor there
wow rm71 per kg?? izit alot then? mayb you can share with ongbs smile.gif

i got feedback form my supplier. those inducor are rated 10uh at 600khz, handheld meter cant get the correct measurement, he tried with thier QC equipment and it measure 11uh

he advice us to use better meter if we are planing to make our own inductors.... :(

haha ongbs....you son soon to be like you...tongue.gif

Okay, got it.. a bit slow today tongue.gif

In that case I am winding my inductors with reference to the stock inductance! biggrin.gif
Therefore error or not, they "should be the same".. brows.gif

Well who's counting the value? It's the end result that counts! rclxms.gif

I guess the 5000euro will come in handy eh? tongue.gif

QUOTE(xtorm @ Sep 1 2008, 05:44 PM)
haha

he mention we cant get the correct value with the normal unit, he tried with a hanheld meter before, it was no good, only got the reading with the QC equipment in the lab, those inductor are rated 11uh at 600khz, as we all know ta2024 switch at a very high frequency

but hey if 1uh on your meter sounded good then why not smile.gif

we are happy with value for money stuff tongue.gif  as long as it doesnt sond harsh with the 2.2uf input cap yet open up sounding then im in biggrin.gif
*
QUOTE(ongbs @ Sep 1 2008, 06:45 PM)
So how come the stock inductor is reading 1uH onmy meter and 50uH on ongbs's?==>
I said b4, should be meter issue...

I believe our cheapo meter only can read certain inductor ranges correctly ...  :(

To those who are making their own casings (don't we all here?)tongue.gif

Where do you install the power switch if it's in front?
I was looking at my hifi and believe it or not, ALL of the power switches are located on the LEFT! As such, the power indicator is normally located at/near the power switch too. Wonder why is such a convention? blink.gif

My casing for the T-Amp does not have a power switch. The 3 pin socket is the switch! Hehehe brows.gif
In the absence of a power switch, where would the power indicator located? I have seen equipments normally power amps as they have NO or just one master switch, the switch and power indicator can be, well.. anywhere! No convention here.. shakehead.gif

The reason for this posting is, the front panel of my amp is too clean. Too clean as in NOTHING! tongue.gif
It just sits there, quietly producing great sweet music without a hint (visually)that it's 'operating'..
Based on ongbs input, I have decided to choose a WHITE LED (small 3 mm in size) as the indicator.. now, its location..location..location tongue.gif

Just want your opinions based on your housing. Can we have the pix of your casing too? laugh.gif

Y.C., balik kampung ka? tongue.gif

Elsewhere in another thread, I downloaded some music for testing sub-woofers..
I was mazed, ohmy.gif the T-Amp handled it very well! thumbup.gif I was teribbly impressed. biggrin.gif

I may also employ the 2.2uF, saw the EPCOS one from rsmalaysia for only about 9 bucks each! thumbup.gif
The current 2.0uF(1uF+1uF) that I use is a bit 'grainy'...

Yes, most aluminium casings are really good looking.. it's the price that's gonna 'kill' you...

If you surf the gainclone webring, there's even more nice ones! tongue.gif

QUOTE(xtorm @ Sep 1 2008, 09:34 PM)
yea some big ass 1 you have there tongue.gif

planing to put higher value for my mids too, then the 2.2uf goes to my tweeter amp..

really nice casing

those for GC also nice....dman all alu casing seems nice, but expensive

Ohreally? Yes. Must be the same place.
The bulk is for what item? any links?

It's definite BIG if you're dealing with small items like headphone amps and the like..
But the finish is first class. worth every buck or rather bahts i paid for it. brows.gif

xtorm,
I think it's worth the money.. wink.gif
Yep.. will definitely change to better cables.. tongue.gif
BTW, those are not RS-485 cables. They are normal electrical 15A cables. I bought them in rolls from JP.

Sato mic cable? Where to get?

Once everyone have completed their T-Amp casing, you think this thread will close/'die'? hmm.gif

QUOTE(xtorm @ Sep 2 2008, 09:29 AM)
wah 3000baht is rm300 ah....hahahaha

but its damn nice...

just change those rs485 cable out to sato japan mic cable, alot cleaner and more details can be heard smile.gif

We can make this goes on and on and on.. yes? tongue.gif

There's always 'new things' that can be added.. brows.gif

BTW, Since using the 10uF input caps, I am experiencing a speaker 'thump' when powering the T-Amp.. Notreally that loud but sonically unconfortable.. I may install a speaker delay board, hence the space reserved in my casing..

No thumping experienced on the other board with 2uF input caps..

I doubt it we can get it here in Malaysia... tongue.gif
Have NOT seen it in KL..

The shiny chrome finish is definitely nice.. this one kena custom made.. huge dent on the bank balance for sure! laugh.gif

Online purchase, the freight charges gonna be costly..
