The difference is quite subtle...

This first board if you remembered, is bass shy.
There is a shade of improvement in the bass department, especially the mid bass!
Vocal became slightly warmer.. and polished from 'Ssssss'
I think there's a slight roll off on the high frequencies.. not a great loss really, should suit on an overbright system..

End of preliminary report.. whistling.gif

Have just completed a 1uH toroid inductor! wink.gif 1 more to go before more listening test! rclxm9.gif

Oh.. the T-Amp is dead silent now.. as compared to the second unit.

yes.. no harshness now..

Yes. Need to compare between the stock inductors and my DIY one.. tongue.gif

Dun think I want to do that, but I want to check out both channels, 1uH DIY toroid inductors! wink.gif

QUOTE(xtorm @ Aug 31 2008, 12:44 AM)

No lah.. I think the value of 10uH is a wee bit too high.
Need to come up between 1 and 10 to 'fine tune'...

Ok lah, for your sake, I'll make another set for both channels! Then will give you full two channels review. Is that great? laugh.gif

QUOTE(xtorm @ Aug 31 2008, 12:53 AM)
dont like the sound of the toroid inductor? not planing to use it as 2 channel setupkah?

It's just a 'hobby'.. laugh.gif

Yes it does! Isn't that what the prelim. review was all about? Difference between 1uH and 10uH(toroid)? tongue.gif

QUOTE(xtorm @ Aug 31 2008, 01:03 AM)
haha you are the best...but i still think value wont make too much different, but i might be wrong tho tongue.gif

Agreed. Material is NOT the same.. but that should only afftect the values of the inductance.

I measured the stock inductor, the resistance is also 0.2 ohm! You sure you measured correctly?tongue.gif

QUOTE(xtorm @ Aug 31 2008, 01:19 AM)
but....you are testing different meterial...

and 0.2ohm vs 1.4ohm...maybe thts why the later sounded thin?

hmmmm, nvrmind i got no experiance with this stuff tongue.gif

I used 2 meters to measure! similar readings! tongue.gif

You measure in circuit or off the circuit board?

QUOTE(xtorm @ Aug 31 2008, 01:28 AM)
eh....i measure so many times on mine, all 4 coils too...

Yes.. thats kinda standard practice before taking resisitance readings.. tongue.gif

The donut, which I bought from NIXIE, is 'ferrite ring'.
I made 10uH value.

anything?

QUOTE(ongbs @ Aug 31 2008, 01:35 AM)
you need to short 2 probe to get the read value 1st, it is the internal resistance of your  probe leads...let say 0.5 ohm
then measure the coil and deduct the previous value....

jazzy, what is the material of the round 'donut'?
Your current own made is how many uH?

Ohreally? blush.gif

Now burning the 1st. board (remember 1st. patient thingy?) with this 10uH coil.. kinda like it now after 2 hours.. wink.gif
Am playing Sean Ghazi's Semalam.. old song sounding laid back.. very good indeed!

I've also made two 1uH value toroid inductors. Thought wanna replace the stock inductor.. tongue.gif Can't stop the music yet! laugh.gif

I am immune to that avatar oledi.. biggrin.gif

QUOTE(ongbs @ Aug 31 2008, 01:42 AM)

2? Last nite I hit the sack at 3+ tongue.gif

2nd patient cannot! Already been discharged! biggrin.gif Well balanced that one.I am going to use 2nd. patient to drive my woofers in the bi-amp config. The force (bass) is strong with this one.. laugh.gif

This is another verdict. Using a 10uH inductors is similar to having a 10uF input caps. The overall sounds that is.
Only some little details not quite the same. Small issue eh? wink.gif

QUOTE(ongbs @ Aug 31 2008, 01:50 AM)
sure lah...you see, you can understand all my Qs right? Even close to 2am now  tongue.gif

can't stop music then take out your 2nd patient loh!  rolleyes.gif

Yes. This is important! My gut feeling say it will oncertain aspects of the sounds.. need to find it out, right? biggrin.gif

Will have to try out air core next! brows.gif

About 23 turns of a 0.055mm enamelled copper wire tongue.gif
and about 14 for a 1uH inductor. biggrin.gif

wonder how many "turns" to get 10uH  shocking.gif  hmm.gif

'recharge'? I am charging now... hehe brows.gif

I am comparing both right now!
My verdict? I will replace ALL the stock inductors! thumbup.gif

Findings:
midrange and high end got a little sharper. The cymbals sound are sharper with just the right attack/decay.
The stock 1uF input caps connected in series if were to be replaced with higher quality caps will definitely make this one leap to a new level! wink.gif
The depth got slightly better. Slightly better ambience.

Damn. Hitting the sack at 3 again tongue.gif

QUOTE(xtorm @ Aug 31 2008, 02:36 AM)

From what I heard, yes. Not much but there is. tongue.gif

Yes.. values also affect the output. It is part of a filter, remember?

The value is 0.47uF (C25, C27).
This one I saw being replace with a 220nF yellow coloured caps..

QUOTE(xtorm @ Aug 31 2008, 02:52 AM)
oh the 1uh toroid is sharper then the ori 1uh??

hmm so the value does make a difference....haha...me loose

duno whats the caps value tht form the filter, will measure it tomolo i guess...

220nF for 4 ohms? Hmmm yeah... I think so too!

Great. We'll keep the 0.47uF then! Bought already! biggrin.gif

There's nothing wrong by sticking to the original spec.

Hitting the sacknow xtorm. Have a great day ahead! biggrin.gif G'nite!

QUOTE(xtorm @ Aug 31 2008, 03:02 AM)
so 1uh is shapr and 10uh is warm...hmmm

supposingly 0.47uf

im thnking of sticking to the spec, since i edi have 0.47uf on the way...

.22uf is recomended for 4ohm speaker if i read correctly...
