The difference is quite subtle...
This first board if you remembered, is bass shy. There is a shade of improvement in the bass department, especially the mid bass! Vocal became slightly warmer.. and polished from 'Ssssss' I think there's a slight roll off on the high frequencies.. not a great loss really, should suit on an overbright system.. End of preliminary report.. Have just completed a 1uH toroid inductor! This post has been edited by jazzy939: Aug 31 2008, 12:32 AM |

I am only mentioning the changes detected. Therefore other factors, refer to my initial review.
So, the soundstage is already great! Oh.. the T-Amp is dead silent now.. as compared to the second unit. yes.. no harshness now.. QUOTE(xtorm @ Aug 31 2008, 12:35 AM) |

No lah.. I think the value of 10uH is a wee bit too high.
Need to come up between 1 and 10 to 'fine tune'... Ok lah, for your sake, I'll make another set for both channels! Then will give you full two channels review. Is that great? QUOTE(xtorm @ Aug 31 2008, 12:53 AM) |

It's just a 'hobby'..
Yes it does! Isn't that what the prelim. review was all about? Difference between 1uH and 10uH(toroid)? QUOTE(xtorm @ Aug 31 2008, 01:03 AM) haha you are the best...but i still think value wont make too much different, but i might be wrong tho This post has been edited by jazzy939: Aug 31 2008, 01:08 AM |

Agreed. Material is NOT the same.. but that should only afftect the values of the inductance.
I measured the stock inductor, the resistance is also 0.2 ohm! You sure you measured correctly? QUOTE(xtorm @ Aug 31 2008, 01:19 AM) |

Yes.. thats kinda standard practice before taking resisitance readings..
The donut, which I bought from NIXIE, is 'ferrite ring'. I made 10uH value. anything? QUOTE(ongbs @ Aug 31 2008, 01:35 AM) |

Ohreally?
Now burning the 1st. board (remember 1st. patient thingy?) with this 10uH coil.. kinda like it now after 2 hours.. Am playing Sean Ghazi's Semalam.. old song sounding laid back.. very good indeed! I've also made two 1uH value toroid inductors. Thought wanna replace the stock inductor.. I am immune to that avatar oledi.. QUOTE(ongbs @ Aug 31 2008, 01:42 AM) coz you review good loh This post has been edited by jazzy939: Aug 31 2008, 01:48 AMnah...nothing to do with "1:30am"...when you answer xtorm's Q, just type...dun stare at his avatar |

2? Last nite I hit the sack at 3+
2nd patient cannot! Already been discharged! This is another verdict. Using a 10uH inductors is similar to having a 10uF input caps. The overall sounds that is. Only some little details not quite the same. Small issue eh? QUOTE(ongbs @ Aug 31 2008, 01:50 AM) |

Yes. This is important! My gut feeling say it will oncertain aspects of the sounds.. need to find it out, right? Will have to try out air core next! QUOTE(xtorm @ Aug 31 2008, 01:53 AM) This post has been edited by jazzy939: Aug 31 2008, 02:05 AM |

I am comparing both right now!
My verdict? I will replace ALL the stock inductors! Findings: midrange and high end got a little sharper. The cymbals sound are sharper with just the right attack/decay. The stock 1uF input caps connected in series if were to be replaced with higher quality caps will definitely make this one leap to a new level! The depth got slightly better. Slightly better ambience. Damn. Hitting the sack at 3 again QUOTE(xtorm @ Aug 31 2008, 02:36 AM) |

From what I heard, yes. Not much but there is.
Yes.. values also affect the output. It is part of a filter, remember? The value is 0.47uF (C25, C27). This one I saw being replace with a 220nF yellow coloured caps.. QUOTE(xtorm @ Aug 31 2008, 02:52 AM) oh the 1uh toroid is sharper then the ori 1uh?? This post has been edited by jazzy939: Aug 31 2008, 03:01 AMhmm so the value does make a difference....haha...me loose duno whats the caps value tht form the filter, will measure it tomolo i guess... |

220nF for 4 ohms? Hmmm yeah... I think so too!
Great. We'll keep the 0.47uF then! Bought already! There's nothing wrong by sticking to the original spec. Hitting the sacknow xtorm. Have a great day ahead! QUOTE(xtorm @ Aug 31 2008, 03:02 AM) |
