Jazzy, I indeed paid RM5.50 per piece and have even seen another shop in JP selling them at RM7.00 per piece. Two possibilities, either I 'kena potong kow kow ' or the RM4.50 per pair binding posts are made in PRC and are different.

I guess most of the T-ampers are already quite settled with their T-amps, hence they don't have much to post.

Y.C.,
yes knowing JP there are variations in quality and prices.. but on many occasions it's the same item! laugh.gif
I think mine is a different one, as yours, the threaded shank is 'extra long' which requires extra 'screwing'... brows.gif
Anyway the moral of the story: shop around! tongue.gif

Here an example: I saw a unit that closely resembles what mysghooi was using as his T-Amp casing. One shop was selling it for RM99. Its a complete (portable)amplifier for the car. Operated by 12V. Saw another shop selling the same very unit for RM79! Now thats RM20 difference! doh.gif

I also saw several units (small amplifiers) with minor modifications will make a very good looking T-Amp casing/assembly! wink.gif

Jazzy,
I believe you have mistaken ekool for mysghooi; ekool is record holder for his 22.2uF input caps.
I do agree with you to shop around before buying and on many occasions items are exactly same. As for me since it is an one off situation, I do not really mind it. The uncle at R.E. Spares has shown me how to spot differences between gold plated banana plugs which are made in Taiwan and China; the latter being much inferior although look identical.

BTW, my second T-amp's blue LED is working now and it is sounding much better. laugh.gif

Was that ekool? Ooops! doh.gif

Good news there Y.C. What value resistor that you used as the current limiter?

Are we in the mood for another TT Session? tongue.gif

This is the casing that I saw. pix from ekool's posting. exactly the same! wink.gif

My T-amp sifu says to use 10K 1/4W resistor so I just followed him tongue.gif

Another t/t session? I think next week onwards would be ideal. This time around, I will also bring my first T-amp with the attenuator all fitted into its casing proper. In the meantime, I will just have to hurry to complete it in time for our t/t session. More manual filing and blisters? doh.gif

Ah.. the 10K resistor! wink.gif

Yes. I think next week onwards would be excellent.
Will give me time to complete my buffer pre-amp too! Bought a few casings from JP this afternoon. One for Junior's T-Amp which was completed within half hour! He's now enjoying the T-Amp, will ask him for his review/findings. He's currently using the stock input caps. Will change the input caps shortly... wink.gif He said the sound is a 'lil bit sharp for his taste...

Well, not really sharp, but the treble sounds a bit harsh for my taste, not piercing, but harsh. But I satisfied with it, even at stock it sounds excellent, the stereo separation is just excellent, I don't need to focus myself to hear the details, plus I do hear a bit more than before and it sounds very clean too. Its a bit dry though, maybe because I don't connect my subwoofer yet. I shall say it does outperform mine...I mean Senior's Technics SU-V7 amp tongue.gif

I have some caps somewhere, I have ELNA (real one that is biggrin.gif) 470uF 25V, I think putting it to replace stock 220uF

I've read through this T-Amp thread & appreciate the following opinion.

"Perhaps I'm biased but I tend to have more faith in the Topping TP 10 MkII amp rather than the Super T-amp which uses capacitors with brand of CHiDa and the likes."

I would like to choose the most promising of the (USA) ebay offerings of T-Amps, used & new. The Topping is higher priced than the Zero & used Sonic Impact Pro. Until I saw your reference, I thought I would need to buy a Trends Audio TA-10.1 to get a good one.

Please elaborate on your preferences of off the shelf models. I'm capable of minor modifications if necessary.
Frank

wui,
how's your finals this afternoon? wishing all the best! thumbup.gif

hey, how about a pix of your buffer? Your preview of the buffer you built is kinda 'too brief!' tongue.gif
damn!, that reminds me that I owe you a circuit for the JFET to get them matched.. ok will do that soon. Now busy replacing Junior's T-Amp input caps. We're using the ever famous F-ELNA! laugh.gif

Well, if anyone is interested, why not. With PCB, all etched, matched, ready to go! wink.gif

Haha, my 1st paper is so so, could do better if i didnt put the time on t-amp. haha, no one to blame smile.gif

I dun have digi cam to take pic and my hp also hopeless in photo. All money dumped in DIY ald tongue.gif

The buffer, to me is rather normal. No heaven and hell difference in sonic, at least by using current components.

Ya, i am living without it now. Thinking of integrate the buffer into T-amp, no guts to pick up soldering tool to finish the work. Guess would wait till next JP visit for other parts.

Good comments, Najmods or Jazzy Junior. tongue.gif

The TA2024 chips are designed primarily by the now defunct Tripath as a multimedia amplifier, its main characteristics - ultra clean sounding and prominence to the highs and mids. Bass is slightly lacking. Use of suitable 470uF 25V electrolytic caps would restore the balance slightly (I found success with Panasonic FM ones). Replacing SMDs with discrete components and/or using a full resistor attenuator will further 'cure' the ultra clean sound and render the T-amp slightly more 'dirty', colourful and musical. All of us heard Jazzy's discrete compo board, its sound as what I have ascribed. We also heard how the Vishay/ERO MKT1813 metalised axial caps made the T-amp even more musical, especially in the midrange. All harshness and hardness from the stocked input caps were totally eliminated.

It is the next t/t session(s) that we could come up with further findings and conclusion. biggrin.gif
