.....is there an adaptor to replace the RCAs in my Boomtube EX so it can connect to speaker binding posts?  provided i can open the casing and switch off the Boomtube's bass modules?
junchoon, it was nice to have met you for the first time yesterday. I'm sure jazzy can make that adapter for you. QED.

As for opening the casing and turning off the power to the center unit bass modules, I'm not so sure its a good idea. Why? Because you'll be killing one of the best features of the Boomtube EX...it was concept designed to be used as a portable system, and I would say after listening to it, it does that job very well.

However, if it were up to me.....(beware, wild idea coming up): if I really had to open it up for modding, I'd add a mini-jack socket, routing the feed to the bass modules to it first, so that I can hook it up to an external subwoofer! This way, I can easily cut off the signal to the bass modules by plugging in a jack, or leave the internal bass modules active by simply not inserting anything.

junchoon, I have learnt through many expensive mistakes that `easy' is a very deceptive term. What's easy for a sifu is not easy for Butterfingered Joes like me. In my hands, an `Easy' job can rapidly turn into `Messy' job. brows.gif

That's why one must treasure the sifus when one can find them!

Hey, I just noticed your invitation for a TT session tomorrow....anyone taking it up?

Hi folks! biggrin.gif
I was out still celebrating raya.. just got back though.. tongue.gif
Yes I did took a photo (one) and here it is, the set-up of the equipments.. Should have taken more but.. we were so engrossed with the music and all, 3 hours (like bro March was saying)seems like minutes.. too short eh folks? tongue.gif

wui,
No progress yet on my pre-amp.. waiting for 'something' wink.gif
We all know that the stock T-Amp is a little bit bass shy.. by changing the input caps and a voltage increase from the usual 12VDC should improve, however it is quite speaker dependant also! The best bass ever I got was from the EPCOS's 10uF input caps.. mysghooi however is currently holding the record of 22.2uF! laugh.gif

junchoon,
I could make your 'RCA jack' converter in no time laugh.gif As a token of appreciation for offering another TT Session at your place tomorrow! biggrin.gif Say, how many of us is taking up the offer? My schedule is clear for tomorrow.. only I have NOT done the LP transfers.. tongue.gif (no phono pre-amp for T-Amp, have to get my Technics wired up.. )
The built in sub on your boombox can be disabled as required with some 'minor' mod. bro March's idea is also very 'interesting' and viable too.. I have to peek inside your 'Virgin's boomtube' ler.. laugh.gif

As from me.. our first T-Amp TT Session was a great success! thumbup.gif
We can now see how a 'tiny' little amp can be tuned and drive speakers like HB2 with great ease and how musical it was.. even with tunes that we are not familiar with, we were soon flowing with the beat.. someone mentioned Krell? tongue.gif

Lai's T-Amp with the ERO's input caps and the Pana power caps.. I would totally agree! The female voices was really seductive wink.gif Quite a well balanced set-up and like Y.C. was saying, it would be a challenge for any current commercial setup to beat such a great combination!
Syrupy eh Y.C? I can imagine how Ms. Krall voice would be! wink.gif Would be mesmerizing! I might reconsider putting back and re-evaluate the EROs again wink.gif

Not forgetting the great lil' Q-Acoustics which was (to me) excellent with the mids and highs.. if partnered/complimented with a proper sub, a full range speaker system would already in place!

Well.. are we ON or OFF for tomorrow's session? Too soon, no? sweat.gif

if u guys have the time tomorrow, would u like to come to my place for another T-amp TT?  it's in Putra Heights.  there are at least three rooms for u guys to play around, and two sets of Floorstands (Epos M16 and Yamaha NS-555) and two bookshelves (Yamaha NS-333 and Sony mini compo speakers).  also one Yamaha AVR and DIY pre+power amps to compare.

would be great if u guys are free to come.  drinks and TT will be on me.  smile.gif

i suggested tomorrow is because i will be busy after that.  i will be in penang from next friday onwards, coming back only on nov 9th.  also because my wife is not around haahaa...  smile.gif

Thanks bro jazzy. in fact i 'tak sempat' wait for ur reply and i found these:

http://ourworld.compuserve.com/homepages/B...wden/page12.htm
http://www.cpemma.co.uk/317calc.html

I use 100R and 1k for R1 and R2. I measure 13.44V, i guess it's fine. Now singing, hope it wont die prematurely.

Added on October 27, 2008, 2:15 amBtw, who will bring CDP and speakers for the meeting? i think i will bring my t-amp and a few CDs. as low profile as possible, else my mom will question alot. sad.gif

wui,
There's always more than one variations to a basic circuit.
The second link, is using a 22000uF cap.. good luck in getting those.. laugh.gif but you can actually settle for less value caps... hehe

Good work in getting the 13.44 volts! It is more than sufficient to juice up the output especially the bass...!

CDP? I think junchoon have a decent CDP.. wink.gif more like a multi-disc CDP!
Just bring whatever things that you want to.. surely junchoon have enough 'rooms' to accommodate.. tongue.gif
