mysghooi,
I am using a 3A power supply to feed the T-Amp, so the cable that I am using is rated at 5A.
Speaker cables, I am using my existing QED79 speaker cable and a set of TRANSPARENT speaker cables.
Do not sacrifice the quality of the speaker cables here. It would help in tapping all the T-Amp capabilities! thumbup.gif

Hi ong you sure cannot get the binding post in Ipoh ah? I get it in Ipoh leh. But now I already buy the last two pair from that shop. May be we can share share the experience when I get my T-amp.

Agreed. ie Tripath used the existing so called Class D and make it 'better' tongue.gif

If it's 'cheap' enough, I might give it a shot, ie the non-Tripath class D amplifier.. wink.gif

yes. the 2024 is more 'audiophile' than 2020, if that really mean anything.. laugh.gif

xtorm, anything new on your side?

xtorm, you sure your supplier got TA-2022 chip that could produce 200W? You could be mistaken.

To my knowledge (I could also be wrong though), all Tripath chips could not be bridged and the TA-2022 chip is only capable of 2 x 60W into 8ohm or 2 x 90W into 4 ohm and it is sometimes referred to as a 100W chip.

And TA-2024 chip sounding closer to tube amp??? I thought it is the other way around with TA-2020 being so. Even in term of pricing of Tripath chips alone without board and ancillary parts in capacitor, resistor and inductor, TA-2020 costs more than TA-2024.

Do check out diyforum on subject of "Gainclone amp vs T-amp"

high power t-amp are kinda expensive in the terms of diy, but price vs sound, the value is pretty good!

got it from diy forum

QUOTE
Andy,
I'm sure Charlize can drive some relatively low efficiency speaker.
Just last week-end, I brought the Charlize over to have a listening session at a friend抯 place. His set-up was pretty good and comprises of :-

a.) CEC belt drive CDP (can't remember exactly which model)
b.) Unison Research Simply 845
c.) Focus Audio 58 Sig. speakers

Assortment of power-cord, interconnect and speakers that are expensive.

Played a couple of songs including Patricia Barber's 'Live: A Fortnight In France' CD. Listening to the U.R Simply 845 was quite satisfying. However, swapping the Charlize against the Simply 845 into the exiting set-up simply was experience to be-hold.

The piano simply sounded more 'real' compared to the Simply 845. The Charlize puts the whole sound-stage into a much clearer and better perspective. With the Charlize, I was virtually transformed into the same hall where Patricia was performing. In comparison, the Simply 845 portrayed a somewhat smaller picture of the performance that I felt is not in the correct proportion.

The owner of the set-up was simply stunned by what he heard from the Charlize, which cost a fraction of what he paid for the Simply 845. I was told the speaker was rated at a low of 85dB.

damn its kinda tempting.... shocking.gif

unison research simply 845 was price at rm17k smile.gif now no more in production, pair with opera speaker the sound is pretty heavenly, i know cos i was a fan of it, and my father owned a simply 4

but then again, the above review might be a badly paired speaker and amp smile.gif

Charlize T-amp is with the TA-2020 chip with max output of 2 x 10W into 8ohm and 2 x 20W into 4ohm.

In a 2005 TNT shootout where 4 different T-amps were compared, the reviewer preferred Charlize over others. See link: here.

Charlize is a product from diyparadise and available either in finished product at RM1,000 or in kit form at RM350.

And at such prices, I felt Charlize could not be compared to the TA-2024 kit at only RM55. thumbup.gif

another quote from user of both ta2020 and ta2024, this guys play lots of t-amp

QUOTE
To my ears, and to the ears of many others who've written to me about these amps, the TA2020 based amps like the Charlize and AMP6 have a fuller, bigger sound than the TA2024 amps like the Trends, Sonic Impact, Super-T, Fenice20 etc.

But the TA2024 seems to be the winner for the micro details, that certain magical thing that it's hard to put a finger on. Magic is about as close as I can come to describing it. The sort of thing that triode lovers rave about. Though they don't really sound like triodes.

So you pays your money and you takes your choices.

The Charlize and AMP6 have a wonderful rich midrange and good solid bass. The Trends has a certain "je ne sais quoi" detailed magic.

So I think it comes down to taste, your system and what is important to you. I tend more toward the big bass and full midrange, but do understand the desire for that ethereal magic of the Trends. Is there a chip with both?

In most cases, the power supply will make more difference than the chip. Input caps matter, too.

Sorry if that isn't much help, no clear winner. But for me there isn't. That has been my experience and that of many others I've talked to.

I tend to listen to the TA2020 simply because it will play louder.

gabanyayaya,
I am currently in contact with someone from the company trying to get a price quotation. They apparently do not have a pricelist. All prices are subject to curent cost and the quantity at the time of order/manufacture. They however entertain a minimum order of one, which is a good thing! thumbup.gif

It does NOT use Tripath chip but use discretes based on Class D amplification system, which is what Tripath chip is based on. If you need to know the basics of Class D do a 'google', there's a wealth of information about it, good and bad! biggrin.gif I have done the reading part! laugh.gif It's time to play! tongue.gif

Wow! 20uF poly! What would it be used for? No lah.. haven't a clue about the price.. unsure.gif
Whats the working voltage like for the poly? A quick check with farnell, with minimum WV of 250VDC, the cheapest is RM39.66! ohmy.gif

yes. one of the application for this Class D is as a sub woofer amplifier, pro amplifier and mixer amplifier.
Let me get an initial price quote. If its low enough for us to 'play play' may I'll do a bulk, yes? tongue.gif

mysghooi,
This Class D amp is made for sub woofer amplification, pro amp and mixer amp applications.
I have NO idea how it would sound like. tongue.gif
That is why if it is 'affordable' I might just get one to sample a Class D amplifier not based on Tripath chip. biggrin.gif
The company sell SMPS with all the amp boards.

Y.C.,
As I earlier mentioned, at RM55 for the basic board, it's Best Bang per Buck Amp! thumbup.gif
The TA2020 might be better, in terms of slightly higher power. I have NOT heard it, so I cant pass any judgement on it. tongue.gif
My system is now singing, sounding the best I have heard for the last 20 years I am in HiFi..
As far as I am concerned, the TA2024 still RULEZ! thumbup.gif
