For my v30 firmware update experience,
1) No, All applications, contacts, sms still remain in my N82 after upgrade (But suggest to backup your contacts and information from phone memory)
2) No, all my ahem applications still fully working and function (suggest to install all the applications that you need before you update)
3) I just left my memory card inside the phone while update

just updated earlier..confirmed will not erase your phone storage..evryting is nice works nicely without changing location nor da setting...

not a real need...u still can live witrhout v30.. they say the application will still run after u update to v30
