Just subscribed the D98 Celcom Broadband and was thinking to replace my streamyx. At first I thought to buy a HSPDA USB Modem, but I changed my mind as it works fine when using using it with my Touch Pro. However, I am using the Touch Pro for my Maxis line and it will be troublesome to change the sim and setting. My questions are :-

1. Will h/phone be able to perform well as HSPDA USB Modem?
2. Which phone is the best? My budget is less than 1k

Cheers

hehe, we are "good" user.

My ddl speed around 10KBps, when reset back the connection, it went up to full speed 56++KBps, then after a while it dropped. rclxub.gif

wah! ur situation juz look like me. When reset back the connection, it went up to about 40-50KBps, then dropped to the most KBps that i hated the most. 10KBps only. Sad woo. If not, should went up to 200KBps++.

well, for this time being, i need to be "good" also when my speed being capped by celcom. whistling.gif

1. Able to perform similar to modem, but it will reduce the lifespan because of the heat generated.
2. Any HSDPA-enabled phone would do

Modem is quite cheap nowadays. You can get a modem at RM 350. Search at garage sales smile.gif

damn, now my ip alwayz 219.93.152.130. Connection so terrible.
Can't use RS anymore. Speed only can up to 10kbps.

But i think, my speed has been capped by celcom..from 3.6mbps downgrade to 384kbps. Arghh!!! Totally insane!

please uncapped me~ i'm a good user laugh.gif

Err, I don't think there's a malay map though.

Definitely don't go for zte modem. There's no option in the modem that we can force it to use 3G signal.
If your HSDPA/UMTS signal is 1bar, it will choose gprs.

others, I don't know.

p/s: to 219.93.152.130 clan , it seems that we all hv the same problem though.. at first the speed 50-60kB/s then dropped 10-16kB/s. sweat.gif

Why don't go for ZTE Modem? smile.gif
I'm using ZTE Modem and I've compared it with my housemate's Huawei E220, I would say mine is better. Emits heat better and less disconnection compared to Huawei E220. smile.gif

And my ZTE MF622 can force connection to only UMTS. smile.gif
Well, I don't force because I'm getting HSDPA. tongue.gif

Yes, not to only HSDPA but only to UMTS. smile.gif
If I choose automatic then it will detect the connection at my area which is HSDPA. biggrin.gif

lolz? is it too much or misconception of ZTE modem??

ZTE modem is better than other i think..

caz, it CAN force modem to use UTMS only.. (which include 3G n 3.5G) n definitely doesnt include GPRS.

when u put force to UTMS only, it will only choose between 3.5G or 3G.. mostly will choose HSDPA unless u r area that doesnt have HSDPA.. caz HSDPA n UTMS is exactly the same unless the speed only..

so, when choose to Auto, it will only see different, caz 3G got 1 bar, GPRS can get full bar.. GPRS have greater distance covered than 3G...

i can run my ZTE for few month without turning off.. how can a Huawei E220 last for 1 day?? E220 i think wouldnt last for 1 day without showing any weird problem (frequent DC) I MEAN ON ROOM TEMP no fan!!

Added on October 15, 2008, 7:39 pmBTW, what i doesnt like bout ZTE is doesnt auto connect.. n using Dial-up protocol as connection..

I used Sierra 875u b4.. it will show a LAN connection rather than diap-up.

that i can set it to ICS always enable.. if dial-up, i nid to set ICS everytime it dial-up.. n choose "home" in Win Vista everytime it connect..

i have no idea on that..

Hi, There's a noob question that I want to ask about. I'm curious whether the broadband modem such as huawei e220 can be infected by virus. I've been thinking about these for a long time and I hope that I can find the answer here. Thnx.

No, because huawei modem is got a file-write protection, where you can't put a files inside the modem. So, there's no chance for virus to enter the modem. smile.gif

No need to. I still connecting to the internet even during heavy rain with heavy lightning, because the transmission is doing wirelessly. For streamyx, it's heavily recommended to disconnect and unplug the cable biggrin.gif

i wanna buy celcom broadband package, but the problem is , everytime i try connecting celcom modem(my frens'), that thing connected just for a while, then it dc again.. means that my comp detects it only a few secs.

i thought the problem came from my usb port, but i have no prob when using external hdd or pendrive etc.

Weird, some of you get .130 IP address while I have not seen it, always stuck at .31-.34 which I think so far so good. thumbup.gif
