Don't polish too many times as it will cut away your clear coat everytime you polish. Try washing using 2 bucket system & dont use normal cloth to wipe. Use microfibre cloth only.

That is no myth. Clear coats are usually about 0.5mm thick. Polishing removes a layer (otherwise how do you think they remove the swirl marks and scratches) and the most a paint job can endure in a life time is less than 10. If you go full detailing that really removes a very thick layer to return the car to showroom condition, the most you can do is about 3 times before the clearcoat becomes too thin.

thats is provided if you are using heavy cutter every time you send your car for detailing. IMHO, at the end of the day it still depends what polishing they use, it may be a DC, DACP, glaze and etc. A good example is scratchx(polish), it removes fine scratches, light swirls and blemishes and is clear coat safe. This is just a light polish with fillers, hence it is safe. Swirls marks can still be temporary solve with fillers/glazes(safer), you do not need to cut/remove the clear coat everytime.

That is where you are wrong. You have to step back and think a little. The clear coat is only a layer of transparent paint. I ask you one question.. what are swirl marks? Swirl marks are fine scratches that show up on transparent paint. You CANNOT repair scratches on any surface. You have to remove a layer of the surface down to the level of the scratch so that they are all on the same level and the scratch is gone.

So you are actually not repairing the scratch.. you are also not removing the scratch.. you are removing the surrounding areas around the scratch. Fillers and glazes do not work as they either leave a tell-tale signs of repair or swirl will return after a few washes. That is not repairing but rather just covering up the scratch temporary (like when you are trying to sell the car).

So, to think that scratchx removes the fine scratches is wrong.

This is the reason why there is no such thing as scratchx for windows. You can't remove a layer of glass hence you cannot make the scratch disappear. If you can actually remove a scratch, then there would be plenty of products out there that can 'remove' the scratch of the surface of glass.

To say that a product removes scratches without damaging the clearcoat is all marketing talk. Bullshit if you ask me. Hypercoat, the official distributor of Meguiars and detailing centre, will tell you the same thing.

others i might not know, but on swirl i know the general.

only 2 things can be done on it.

either it's covered it up which is a simple job and cost less money.

to remove the swirl, it's a big job and will cost a lots and the time as well.

to remove it, you need to use machine to do the job. staring from washing, claying, compounding, and applying layers of things.

the quality of Pad is very important and the machine used as well. Pad need to be always clean and need to wash it after some time.

various type of pad are being use for different layer and different purposes.

tht's generally i know how detailer to remove the swirl.

It cheap but after 3-4 washes it comes up again. So you gonna wax every 3-4 washes? Kinda back breaking that is

Meguair's Diamond Cut for the win. Strongest abrasive I ever used in my life. Don't wanna use it too often though sad.gif

Tried Abrasive Polish on glasses with fine scratches and it works. But it was just for fun. If done too often might accidentally crack the glass tongue.gif

The best would be to do it once between 3-4 weeks. That is for wax. Never tried turtle wax. Been using Meguiars & extremely happy wth it.

Personally, I don't like to use Polish /w Fillers as its only avoiding the problem, instead solving it. As after several washes, your scratches/swirls will still surface (typically after 1 month or so). But, its a personal opinion. I would just suggest to do touch-up on your paintwork.

Oh, I see. What do you mean by touching up the paintwork? Is it a DIY job or I need to send my car to a car detailing shop? Sorry, I'm new at car detailing. My car has lots of tiny scratches and swirl marks. There are also lots of tiny white paint drops because my neighbour was painting his house. I plan to polish my car myself soon. I'm not sure about the condition of my paint's clear coating. So far, I've only been waxing the car to make it shine.
